mx player is my favourite media player. i don't like in-built media players.
i knew only about their streaming service but not about the games and music platforms. also, never used mxtakatak but heard about it.
also, i hardly saw them advertising about their streaming services. i agree that, they could have gone for desktop software and offered streaming service there like netflix or amazon prime.

Why Amazon is purchasing Mx Player reason is simple not to let any competition attempt. Suppose Mx Player is app which is there in millions of phone, may not the person using it daily but not uninstalled it too, so it has reach to millions of people. Had any one with deep pocket and some brilliant plan had acquired Mx player he could compete with Amazon or Netflix. To avoid this situation Amazon paid some 300 to 400 crores for a company which is actually in loss.

I was an user of MX Player since 2012 but stopped using it because of too many ads. I only wanted MX Player to be just a Advance Video Player. Nowadays I used a freeware named Next Player. It has the potential to replace Mx Player if developers develop it in the right direction.

It used to be famous for web series like "Bhaukaal" and "Aashram," which I loved. But things have changed.
"Aashram" Season 1 was good, but Season 2 became repetitive and boring. It lost its charm.
"Bhaukaal" Season 1 and 2 were fantastic and really gripping, but sadly, there's no Season 3.
Besides these two shows, I can't recall any others they have. Also, the increased number of ads while watching online shows is quite annoying.
It made people like me stop using MXPlayer for months.

Ad revenue or subscription is not the thing. Its totally depend on marketing and content. Hotstar ke bhi Heavy subscribers hua karta tha uo bhi paid but now it has been declined and now sold. Content fatigue is the main issue here according to me. Most of the successful series and movies are coming in netflix and prime so all are preferring those

Luckily i had purchased MX player Pro in 2019 at ₹370. Now i use only pro version for video & audio playback. Stopped using the irritating advertisements of free version.
