Morning Glenn. I remember back in the day my wife use to buy the Williams puck and the Colgate puck, which ever was on sale. Maybe 15 or 20 cents. I used the soaking method also. Back then it was my daily use soap. I was using my trusty Gillette Slim. Aqua Velva splash aftershave.
I remember those times well. Take care and be safe.

Nice shave Glenn...Aqua Velva is still my favorite classic, too...takes me back every time!

    Bergen county guy here.
I had no idea Williams 1) was made in jersey and 2) they went out of business. I have a box still that I haven't opened yet. I used to buy them, just as you said, way cheap at either shop-rite or rite aid, back in high school. The price compared to a lot of the other over scented crap my classmates were getting (99-03) was ridiculous back then.
I think I'll put that last remaining box away. I was gonna use it for nostalgia's sake. Maybe I'll open it for my son when he becomes of shaving age.
Great video and awesome info! Thanks!

What a pleasant surprise Glenn using the Williams mug soap!!! I've managed to buy one but didn't have success getting a solid lather out of it. It also dissipate on my face, slick though. Next time I'm gonna try your method of soaking the puck first. Looking already forward to your next video brother. Have an awesome day buddy 🙏🏆🪒💈❤🥇👍🙏🏆🪒💈❤🥇👍

At some point there was a reformulation that rendered the soap lather incredibly thin, causing it to dissipate quickly once applied to the face. I've acquired a few vintage pucks that lather beautifully and give great results. They also last practically forever if you only use them once a week or every two weeks (Williams Wednesday for the win).

Nice lather with the Williams. I always struggle with that one. I like the simple clean scent

There is a Williams tallow based puck that predates the one you are using from the 40's and 50's. If you ever come across one, grab it. That one competes with the best current artisans.

I agree 💯!! I have 18 of the vintage version! The puck I use produces a beautiful lather with superb slickness!! Heck, the modern is more to buy than the vintage!! There is no comparison to the vintage!

Williams was not used much here (Aus), I believe shave soaps were more English orientated, my father used Old Spice mug soap exclusively.👍🤠👍

Hey Glenn! When I heard Williams Mug Soap was being discontinued, I stocked up big time!! I went around all the local stores and purchased what I could! I have 76 pucks!! I can now retire on what I could sell it for!!!😂😂 I know most people can't get a good lather, but if you soak it for a couple minutes in really hot water, it will lather good. Even if it dissipates some, it is still slick to achieve a good shave! Question...would you do a review of the Dollar Tree 3 piece razor if you haven't already? It is actually quite aggressive! They also had an actual shave soap puck that lathers very well! For $1.25, it was very good. Not sure if the stores are carrying it any longer. Thanks for reviewing the Williams! JimG

well glen I do have now around 278 different soaps but never a high amount of each one , maybe from one or two I have more than one extra , also these cheap soaps are maybe nice but having so many good ones , I really never uses these cheap soaps again, also palmolive stopped making the shaving stick , the reason I believe is that they were too cheap and nobody was buying there tube soaps anymore , regards from mexico
