Greco-Roman wrestling is one of the oldest sports in the world, dating back to 3000 B.C. It was featured in the ancient Olympic Games as early as 308 B.C. and was restored in 1896 when the Olympic Games were reintroduced. It has been a regular part of the Olympic Games since 1908, more than a decade before freestyle wrestling became a regular event at the Summer Games. Greco-Roman wrestling has long been a men's-only event at the Olympics, which is not the case with the freestyle wrestling version.
