Mate bought one of the ME Lightline jackets.
Out of curiosity I suggested he enter his jacket’s 12-digit Down Codex bar-code on ME’s website. Turns out it’s stated 700 Fill Power down came from farms in North East China. The most surprising thing is that this Duck down has an actual Fill Power of 795, with over 97% down cluster/down fibre.
Little wonder he reckons it feels like he’s wearing a sleeping bag!
Well impressed.
None of them come close to Pakafill jackets from Paka Apparel, which are warmer to weight ratio as most experts know alpaca fibre are second best to the polar bear, better than down that lose it's effectiveness once wet or even merino wool.
Most of these jackets are completely unsuitable for UK weather. If you're in arctic conditions, or going skiing, fine. But for when it's pissing down and you need to walk the dog or go to the shops, all you need is a waterproof shell and a decent jumper. Ridiculous seeing people walking in storms with their soaking wet down jackets.
