Is power metal pure cringe? I find out by looking at power metal bands like Sabaton, Majestica, Wind Rose, Iced Earth, Kamelot and Amaranthe.

As someone who LOVES Power Metal - I can take a joke and find the humour in it. However what a lot of people on the outside don't get about Power Metal - is how genuinely emotionally resonant it is.
Some music, for example bands like Nirvana - express emotional vulnerability, and people can relate to that. Power Metal is often an expression of invulnerability.
It resonates deeply with a fantasy within us to escape from our vulnerable lives.
Our mental health struggles(I have Aspergers, but it applies to all fans too).
It gives us strength - it helps us feel ten feet tall, like we could conquer the world.
It's easy to mock the funny side of it, even I do that myself.
But I have to assert that there is an incredible healing quality to the escapism of the fantasy expressed in this music.
Sure - Nirvana's vulnerability may have saved many lives. But the invulnerability I've felt when listening to Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Manowar etc. has saved mine.
Strength in the darkest of times. As much as we can laugh about it from the outside - from the inside, it means a lot. I make no apologies for unreservedly LOVING Power Metal.

One thing I think is important to give some credit to these bands for though Finn, one thing that you've been very critical of with lots of other bands, is that their videos are really creative, have a concept, and generally have a VERY high production value. Contrast that with all of the bands rocking out in warehouses or djenting in coloured rooms! Power Metal may not be your cup of tea musically (which I can mostly agree with you on), but you have to give some credit where credit is due.

Power metal is about taking the best of old school metal and making it faster and more catchy. The musicians are some of the most skilled on their respective instruments (not something punk rock cares about i know 😝) maybe the historical elements don't translate in a country with barely 200 years of history but if you focus on image rather than music then you miss out on some good stuff.

quick storytime about sabaton: i‘m from germany and started taking driving lessons at age 17 and on my very first drive on the autobahn (it was dark, really cold and there was a rainstorm happening) and on the way back (it was like a 90min drive) my driving instructor told me that i should drive faster (i drove at like 170km/h or 105mph) and then he turned on the radio and he started playing sabaton (i think one of the songs was „ghost division“) i almost shat myself because i couldnt see a thing driving faster then i’ve ever had and my teacher is blasting sabaton on full volume and then he starts to tell everything he knew about tanks, war and all of that sorta stuff. Long Story short: he got fired about 2 weeks later because other students filed several complaints against him. So now every time i hear sabaton i think about the time i almost died on the autobahn lol.

The best power metal band is Helloween imo. Why? They actually sound aggressive, at least their first album. They're just as close to NWOBHM as power metal though. Also Rhapsody deserves honorable mention. Their best material reminds me like grandiose pop punk. That said, I never listen to either anymore lol.

Helloween is 100% the best, everyone else pales in comparison.

That Amaranthe song you played is a cover of a Sabaton song.
Now I shall take my android phone, neckbeard, government issued ID, and metro card and go to some historical museum to learn more about old wars!

The Gettysburg song is about the fighting 69th. An all Irish battalion that fought for the union army against the confederates. Most of them were young immigrants who hadn't been long in America. They really didn't have a reason to fight however they joined anyways to preserve the new country they found themselves in.
Its not really my type of music either. However, It's a pro union song but you projected your own thoughts and biases and assumed it was pro confederate. Really bad take dude.

Yes dude. Your last video was funny but I wanted your take on Sabaton. So glad they are 1st. I don't really power metal and I would just think of it as metal I listen to everything. I love Sabaton because I saw them at louder than life and they were amazing the crowd was amazing so much passion. I'd see them again. Its a gimmick and its fun to laugh at the things we like. Nerdy but dumb is me to a T but not over war but comic books and Taylor Swift
Dude they are peak metal live the matching movements the head banging they had a tank on stage.
All you guys go to louder than life. Its amazing

I'm just here to remind everyone that the Steve monologue in the end first power metal video is a high water mark in God tier Finn comedy. Watch that one next.

Gotta say, I agree with you on bunch of things, gave me a lot of laugh especially since I grew up listening to power metal, but:
    - Sabaton - absolutely there with you - it's just a band that's made to monetise over a nerd niche that likes tanks and history and shit
    - Those dwarves - also super cringe :D
    - Kamelot - well - you got that one pretty wrong imho. Khan (singer from Norway) is one of the best (and that era you've shown) singers in metal ever. Has a very unique and theatrical style. Does a band look a bit cringe? Sure, it does. Is it cheesy? Not really compared to everything out there ...
    - Iced Earth - I don't like what John did etc at all, and I don't like their songs about revolution, American south history and all the shit, they were much better when they were writting about vampires, greek mythology, and actually music from their first couple of album is outstanding. They have a huge fanbase here in Europe (especially Greece and Germany). But yeah, once John started going full-right-wing nut, his music started to suffer a lot, and became a cringe.
    - Amaranthe - super confused that you like this shit honestly :D Because it's like 90s euro trash music combined with techno and metal. It's aweful. Again - another band like Sabaton made for monetisation and just spitting out whatever targets the widest audience.
Imho you could have listened to Rhapsody of Fire for example, which are the staple of power metal. Extremely good musicians from Italy, sure, texts are D&D LARP, but worth it, Christopher Lee (actor) used to guest on their albums doing narations etc. Blind Guardian - again - staple of power metal from Germany. Again LARP. Helloween, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica etc etc ... There are many good bands, and imho only their texts are usually cringe. But then again, I cringe at metal core, crab core, death core, whatever core bands as well, no real value there texts wise :D
