  • The USMC came to King High School in Riverside this morning for their performance. It was supposed to be outside in the stadium, but Murphy's Law struck and it rained today.
    Still an outstanding performance!

    It's crazy that I spent 11 years in the Corps and only got to see these guys perform live once. But it was incredible. I was in the same uniform, but in awe at their precision!
    This is what I miss about the Corps. We were inspired by each other. Always.

      Dia Akin.. As an Army Veteran myself. I always enjoy watching all branches of the Military perform. Makes me extremely proud and gives me goosebumps! Correct me if I am wrong. I was informed, in order to be a part of such an amazing group, one of the requirements is- to be a Combat Veterans?

    • @beck29
      @beck29 Před 5 lety +1

      Kelly Mears you do not have to be a combat veteran but they are all infantry Marines.

    Hate to see these kids texting while the Marines drill. Military bearing and precision at its finest and some are buried in their phones....pathetic.

    • @craighaasis
      @craighaasis  Před 7 lety +6

      Isaiah, I completely agree. Most there were pretty respectful, however. The Kingsman (the HS marching band) played the National Anthem pre-performance, and I didn't see a hat on in the crowd. Something I always look for and call out if there's anyone near me.

      I wouldn’t be buried in my phone. Before I became a Marine, I’ve always looked up to these guys. Now I look up to my good NCO’s and Staff NCO’s.

    Crazy perfection as usual....but I noticed the little end looked like they dropped the old 5'10" minimum requirement they had back in '75 when I was in The Corps. What many folks may not know is that most of these Marines are just Lance Corporals which means they've only been in the Corps about 18 months to 2 years so are only about 20 years old...Kids as it was, turned Young Marines

    • @stevefowler1787
      @stevefowler1787 Před 7 lety

      Richard Really? The little end looks awfully short to me...

    • @Richardmark5
      @Richardmark5 Před 7 lety

      there's a rounding system in the marine corps where if you're 5'9 1/2 you're 5'10 and if you're 5'10 4/10's you're 5'10

    • @stevefowler1787
      @stevefowler1787 Před 7 lety

      Richard Sorry but after viewing this video again and poking round a bit I believe my first impression was/is correct...no way the gents on the little end are anywhere near 5'10" or even 5'9 1/2". I'm 5'11" and they are no taller than 5'7" or possibly 5'8" at best...and the old 5'10" requirement from my days is nowhere to be found on any current official Marine Corps Silent Drill team requirements information...it just says appropriate weight for height. If you have any sources that say 5'10" is still the min. height I'd like to see them...Semper Fi. BTW the reason this stood out to me was in The Corps (I don't now if you were in or not) the platoons in the fleet are ordered by height so there is a noticeable "little" end, but back in the 70's when I saw the silent drill team perform many times while stationed at H.Q. Marine Corps, there was no noticeable little end, whereas when I watched this video I was struck that now there is...so something has definitely changed....so this is a been there seen that moment that if you haven't it is hard to speak to my point.

      When I was in there was still the same height minimum and I got out in 2011. Couldve changed since then I guess.

    Murphy's law is right! sadly cramped space's like that will always cause a few screw ups, especially for newly joined members of the platoon, still a great job though.

  • @NamVet70Mike
    @NamVet70Mike Před 7 lety +18

    I've seen better but the age of these Marines tells me that this is more of a inspection demonstration to see who's the weakest. I did observed a couple of mistakes especially when the Marine nearly knocked off his cover catching his rifle and the mirror maneuver wasn't quite in sync. To spin a Main Battle Rifle, with bayonet, is a feat very few newbies can achieve. Semper Fi Leathernecks y'all make Chesty proud!! USN Vietnam Vet 1969-78

    My JROTC instructor was a retired general, she retired the year she became our instructor she had worked as a security detail for Bush and Obama and she had commanded a base she brought us to that base as a field trip and we got to see them doing this but with the actual bayonets on the end, it was amazing and the guy in charge of them all, showed me all of the cuts he had on his arm hands face and kneck from training his people, because while training them they were hitting and cutting him with the bayonets I was thinking dang he's brave
