  • Due to the high reservoir head and draw down velocity, existing scour valves at Digley Reservoir, Huddersfield became stiff and difficult in operation. Serious constraints ruled out the option of Gate & Butterfly valve as a solution.
The client came to Blackhall Engineering Limited for a special and long-lasting valve solution. Using our experience, expertise and leading technologies we designed and manufactured the Fixed Cone Free Discharge Valve which proved as an ultimate solution to the problem.
The performance and the operability of the valve was highly praised by client.

It looks to be very compact considering it's overall function. So would I be right in saying that it uses twin worm gear drives for the linear part of the actuation mechanism and a combination of reduction / directional change gearbox(es), driveshafts and universal joints (under the rubber boots) for the power transition to them? I would expect such a design to be very long lasting and require little maintenance, not that I am an actual engineer.
