What do you do if your company buys shite elbows and the faces aren’t square
Nice question. I will layout a true size elbow. I will put the elbow on the layout, adjust until the elbow, sits on the layout perfectly, then I will mark points on the elbow, using a right angle (set square), referring points from the layout.
This will not work properly. The radius on the elbow (not a reducer btw) will not allow it to fit straight in the flange. So the 90 will not sit flat on the nuts. To use this method you will require a larger setback. You can also clamp the flange vertically in a vice and 2 hole it (level the 2 holes) after is it secure and level you can insert the 90 and place the level on top and make sure it is level to the holes.
Also, similar to the first method, instead of drawing, you can put 2 bolts through the flange and hang the bolts off your work table pushing them against the table so the flange is square with it. Put the 90 elbow in the flange, then use a 2 foot level on the 90 and look down, if the level and the edge of the table are parallel, the fitting should be square with the flange holes.
