- In this episode Prof. Prof. Apoorvanand discusses the trial of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru with Prof. Aparna Vaidik which was a dramatic and highly charged episode in India’s struggle for independence. Held in 1930, the trial was a spectacle of colonial oppression, where the three revolutionary freedom fighters were charged with the assassination of John Saunders, a British police officer, and other acts of defiance against British rule. The trial was marred by a lack of fair judicial processes and was conducted in a climate of intense political repression. Despite their conviction and subsequent death sentences, the trio’s unwavering courage and eloquent defense turned them into national heroes and symbols of the fight for India’s freedom. Their execution on March 23, 1931, galvanized the Indian independence movement, immortalizing their legacy as martyrs for the cause.
