    If any of you are changing your own oil in your c5 or c6 make sure your rear end is higher then the front whilst draining the oil. And do not be in a hurry, it takes about 20/30 minutes for all the old oil to drain out. The drain plug is 15mm. And it holds 6 quarts of mobile one 5w30..Have a great day.

      Not all Grand Sports have the dry sump oiling system. Only the ones with manual transmissions. I wouldn't want someone to dump 10 quarts of oil in a non-dry sump system because they read somewhere that's what they take.@@LegacyAftermath

    thanks, I've had my c5 2004 coupe for 12 years and first I heard of a hockey puck, never jacked it up myself, hard to believe the price of the jack is more than double in 5 years assuming this is the one you have, PITTSBURGH 2 Ton Low-Profile Floor Jack with RAPID PUMP, Slate Gray . love your videos pal. nice big piece of plastic cellophane was sucked in my radiator causing it to overheat, I managed to get my head under there to see it without the jack for now, thank you!

    I really like your Corvette and also like your Channel. One thing to add to your comments that might be helpful the factory recommends that whenever you jack up a fiberglass Corvette specially if you're not jacking it up on a power lift which Jack's all four corners up level at the same time, but if you're jacking up one end or the other at different times, to keep the fiberglass from cracking you need to open the hood the trunk and both doors because the body is going to Twist a little bit, and this will keep all movable panels in line and keep them from scratching and cracking.

    Successful SCCA Racers, from whom I took my advice, have been side jacking the Corvette for decades. under the rear seat bolt area. Youll see a sheet metal brace looking part. that located the jacking position to lift the entire side of the car no frame twist nor denting. Otherwise, pretty good instructible. I have also used stacked 2x8's DIY ramps d/t to the front overhang as you said. Cheaper than RAceramps, adn more compact/

Corvette forums are full of lots of info but seeing vids like yours bring a better picture cause most guys are visual and don't like reading. Your vids get to the point and we like that. I actually built steped up ramps for running my car up on standard ramps. Similar to what he did, just longer. And if your xhanging oil, the rear end has to be higher than the front end.

  • @joewest826
    @joewest826 Před rokem

    If you're going to jack up the car to put the ramps under the tires what's the purpose of the ramps. Just use blocks of wood to get the car high enough to jack the car from the front. Also, probably not a good idea to put jack stands under suspension parts like the control arm bushing bracket, and definitely not the control arm itself. The control arm is angled down when the weight is taken off of them so the jackstand could slide when the jack is lowered possibly causing the car to fall off of the jack stand. A safer way would be to use a shorter block of wood on the jack and put the jackstands under the cradle. If you're doing something under the car like changing the oil, that you don't need the weight off of the suspension just use wheel cradles like the ones from Race Ramps. Or you can make your own out of 2x4's. You can Google how to make those. Assuming you have the room to store them. Or if you're a serious DIY'er invest in a 2 post lift. That's my 2 cent's worth but I think it's solid advice. Congrats on the channel. We all can help each other.

  • @joewest826
    @joewest826 Před rokem

    Oh yeah...the lifting pucks aren't designed to be left in place. They have a T shaped section on the top of them. You line the T with the slot and then turn them 1/4 turn to hold them in place while jacking. If you leave them in place they will rattle around until the T lines up with the slot and then fall out never to be seen again. They do make ones that can be installed permanently but I wouldn't spend the money for them. I just rounded off the corners of a piece of 2x4 and sit that on top of the jack.

Had a question though, I had a mechanic do some work on my c5 Z06, and he just jacked the car up from the rear crossmember (under the differential) and front crossmember without using the wood blocks. He did place a protective pad to make sure there wasnt any metal on metal contact, but do you think this could have caused damage? I don't see any cracks or bends, but I've seen a lot of videos where the wood blocks are used

    NEVER put jack stands under or lift a car by the control arms

      Can you explain why? Isn't the tire doing the exact same thing?

    • @stuuuporman

      @@tahoejohnny3991 Because the weight is NOT distributed properly, so bending, breaking or distortion of parts can occur.
      The tires support the weight in a balanced/correct manner.
      Therefore, lift the corvette as shown in the manual for its safety and yours.
