Liz and I had a blast hunting the rare Wisconsin moonstone, which is an anorthoclase feldspar crystal in pegmatite which can only be found in a roughly 4 mile circle within Marathon County. Until recently it was completely closed of to the Public but Wisconsin Moonstone has opened up a pay to dig site so now you can experience the privilege of hunting this amazing gem! We hope you enjoy the video and hope to see you back for the next one!

Wonderful!! TY so much 4 sharing ur day & ur rocks w/us!! I can't wait to go & take some little RockHounds! 😍👍😍
You’re going to have a great time, guaranteed! It almost feels more like a treasure hunt 😁
Totally cool that they put aside some digging spots for everyone to enjoy! How gemmy are these stones as far as polishing goes, like for cabs? Or are they more like specimen quality? It would be super fun to play with some of those. That was incredible to see where they were mining the pegmatite. What an eyeful of gorgeousness! We'd love to have you on the Rockhound Podcast if you'd like to come on. Thanks for bringing us along for the fun of that dig! Cheers!
You wouldn’t think it would but it cabs nicely and polishes beautifully. I’ve made a few cabs and pendants so far with no fracturing issues and actually have a bigger slab on the vibra-lap as I type this. A few imperfections here and there but it honestly adds character. Shoot me some info on the podcast, I believe our email is in our channel description otherwise you can use the ‘contact us’ section on our website and that goes directly to my inbox. Thanks for watching, we had a blast and glad you enjoyed it!
That's awesome to have hit one of your bucket 🪣 list. Ya'll looked like you had a blast. And them beauties 😍 wonderful blue 💙 hues in your finds. Awesome job 👏🏼
Thank you so much, we had a lot of fun and beat the heat! Loving these moonstones!
Awesome finds! Moon stone is so pretty!
It’s such a great material..especially once it’s polished
Excellent material and a great hunt!
Thanks 🙌! Had a blast, definitely a memorable one!
Awesome moonstones. Would love to go there and get some. Maybe one day.
Definitely worth a trip, only place open to dig in the whole 4 mile outcrop! If it wasn’t going to be hot as satan’s taint this weekend I was hoping to go back on Sunday!
I know of two that have dug for Wisconsin moonstone. One got to go to private land and the other went here. It is on my bucket list of places to go also. Yous did very well there👍
You’d love it, it was so much fun..felt more like a treasure hunt lol thanks for watching!
You two had an awesome adventure. I recently learned of this spot also from my niece. Thanks for sharing. Its nice to see something cool from Wisconsin! Not sure when I'll make the trip.
It was a lot of fun, you’ll definitely enjoy it if you make the trip. Thanks for watching!
I think the best was specimen shown #2, the cubes in host. Danged if it doesn't look like ancient buildings (with windows) on a cliff side. Wonderful!
Definitely one of my favorites!
I’m jealous, this looked like an amazing time, awesome pieces! Great video you guys ❤
We had such a good time, the crew was really accommodating and I feel like it would be impossible not to find some moonstone! Thanks for watching!
Can't wait to see a cab made from this! I just visited your shop, very nice selection
I suspect it might look a bit like black opal with fractures
Pretty close except for the pegmatite color, but the ‘flash’ from the anorthoclase feldspar definitely has that luster 🤩
Great fun/video! I'd love to see what you do with it...perhaps a follow-up sometime? 🥾 rock-on
Definitely going to work on a follow up video with a few goodies made from this!
Nice haul!
Thank you!!
Very pretty stone.❤
Agreed!!
I've lived in Wisconsin my hole life I didn't know this existed
I’ve heard of it before and always wanted to learn more but couldn’t get to it because of the private land so I never pursued it further, so happy this place opened it up to the public
Yesss Wisconsin
Wisco born and raised 🙌🙌
Scary and beautiful ❤️
😁
Nice trip…definitely be going there! Soon
It was a blast, you’ll definitely enjoy it.
@@Operocks did you use your hammer at all or was it a waste to bring?
@@PlanetaryLapidary I only used it once on a larger piece otherwise a hand rake was sufficient
@@Operocks booked for the 24th…never would have known without the vid🙂
@@PlanetaryLapidary enjoy! We’re going back just to dig and not film it was so much fun
Awesome episode!! Does this stone require stabilizing?
I’ve worked a few pieces so far and had very little issues with fractures and it took an amazing polish. In the short amount of time I’ve worked with it, I’d say no!
