- Hello and welcome to scale stuff in this weeks video I am going to be building and painting the Revell 1/42 Fishing Trawler Kandahar Vintage Model Kit, this model kit of a North sea fishing vessel was made during the 70's and judging by the box this kits seen some years
In this video I fully build and paint this model fishing boat kit and give my thoughts on this vintage kit.

Fishing trawlers are the most interesting looking boats/ships to build by my opinion. Great job done on this build review, thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend.
Yes fishing trawlers do seem to pic up a lot of intrest along there day to day working lives, its scary how much of a beating everything that comes into contact with the sea gets. Thank you glad you enjoyed the video, and will do many more videos to come

Revell still has it in the catalogue as North Sea Trawler. No longer an exotic Soviet spy craft. Beautiful job

I built one of these when they first came out, and duly made the mistake of trying to paint it when finished. What 12 year old doesn't want to finish the build first! Anyway, I am now building another one- thanks for this video which has some useful tips!
I like the idea of putting it in the fish tank, but my other half would not be happy if it caught her fish!
Ah I know that one, 12 year old me wrecked so many kits! Glad the video has helped and I hope that it comes together nice for you,Hahahaha yeah would look good in one though but dont think would do the fish anygood
I have this kit 90% finished, but I overlooked the pre painting. Now I have my work cut out. Great kit though. Nice job on yours.

Nice kit and build 👍 but you should have done the rigging to make it look better.
Yeah agreed on the rigging, i dont do many boats though, I did rig a pirate ship I made, but the elastic was probably to thick for the scale of it
I might have managed the build, but your paint finish was well beyond my skills 👍

Not sure if the paint would be safe for a fish tank,but would look awesome in one
@@scalestuff1066 Ordered one now £15 ebay. If i use kiddy safe acrylics should be ok.

@@scalestuff1066 it falls together surprisingly well for a mould that old. Except that front of the wheelhouse which I'm sure you remember also. Filler required there only. I've decided to open up all the wheelhouse windows.... May pop a little led inside. Thanks for the inspiration.
@@m0rce1 Yeah just that wheelhouse lets it all down, if you are going to light the shit up, that would look awesome but be sure to line the inside with some tin foil, or otherwise the walls will glow, i learnt that on a small scale titanic i made years ago, in the dark it looked radioactive!

Do these ships have a specific name or model or design name. Like a car has a model.name......i see many trawlers have this style when built. Does it have a ship design name?....
Thanks for a bit of a Rabbit hole, the ships are Ross class, this would be ross class kandaha ive seen a tiger and revenge all listed under that class all the same as this one, took abit of digging. But yep Ross class
Would have been a nice conversion to a russian spy trawler
Ah now that would be awesome a lot of people have suggested conversions for this kit seems to lend itself to a lot of applications
I just ordered one a few days ago:
1, why it dose not come painted
2, can I spray paint it and not use the type of paint you did?
3, WHY THE F IT DOSE NOT CFOME PAINTED
imagine if lego sent all of the bricks white from a set
Thats pretty standard for models mate you have to make them, the white plastics abit annoying tho its to light to work on, but yeah you can give it a base coat in either black or grey spray paint and then paint it with the same paints I did, or any model paints, army painter, ak, velejho ,tamiya, revell, and humbrol are all pretty good model brand paints.
@@scalestuff1066 is my first model. I ordered it because I have a new pool, and I wanted to put it together as decoration with a pool thermometer.
I dont mean to be funny more helpful, but if its going in a tank with fish, I would be very careful on the paint you use, as some paints might effect the fish
@@scalestuff1066 A swimming pool, not a tank with fish like an aquarium, I just wanted a boat to float, I am waiting for it to arrive and will update you with further developments if you would like it soo, I was just wondering if spray can paint is good enough to make it look okay to good and what colors would you recommend me? (ii would like to use brown, spay it on a paper and then tap the ship with the paper to make it look like rust but my skills with paint are like 0)
Sorry but it looks like you used a 6" brush and a roller to get the paint on 😮
Well was a 6mm wide brush mate so not far off 😂 did rush abit on this one to get it done
Sorry thought this was on the Austin video,the cabin on this one messed up Bad,so yeah fair cop,I cant remember what went wrong with the spray ,but yeah lost the footage as had to try and fix it
I converted this kit with a more angled bow. added another level to the wheel house and altered the rear deck, i made and fitted a tall tower to the deck in front of the winch which on the real ship was 100 meters tall and the model became a dead ringer for the MV Ross Revenge the home of the legendary Radio Caroline
Nice bet that looks awesome, have you got any pictures? Ah can see where your coming from with the Ross revenge,If that ships still moored off the south coast my uncle spent some time on that trying to launch a unsuccessful pirate radio career
Just looking it up can really see what you mean with the shape of it,that would be a nice conversion with the huge mast on the front
