  • On October 9, 2023, I had a Monday off from work and decided to head down and chase the Midcoast Railservice, who commonly operate on Monday and Thursday. We found the power, quite unusually, tied down at Hardings in Brunswick, to which the crew would cab from the home base at Rockland and begin their daily duties. First on the list was a run east to pick up some flats at the nearby ASA siding in West Bath, before running to Brunswick to interchange with CSX, who was on their way up from Portland. A fairly quick swap ensued, which included Midcoast dropping their cars on the west end of the interchange siding and then diving in on the east end of the siding to await CSX, who would pull down alongside them to hand off the train. As CSX turned their power on the wye, Midcoast would leave for Rockland with us in pursuit. I have never actually photographed 2310 before, and I figured it was now or never considering the fate of Dragon in the near future. I hope you enjoy this twin B23-7 action on the Rockland Branch!

Great coverage of an unusual day on the Midcoast! I chased a “regular” run back in September and was not disappointed by the diverse scenery, brisk pace, and foamy -7s.

Interesting to see C40s being used for the CSX transfer, though nice to see the meet between Dash 7s and 8s
