- As a Sakura Taisen fan, I am morally obligated to have at least ONE version of "Roar, Imperial Fighting Troupe!" in my videos.
There are at the very least six different versions of this, each with different singers and different styles. I'm not sure I'll upload them all, but I know I want to promote Gekitei III at the very least.
This, however, is THE BEST anime action OP I have heard in a LONG time. It's unfailingly cheerful and it makes me want to roar along with the Imperial Fighting Troupe. If there is a single song in the entire song repertoire that sums up Sakura Taisen, it is this.
As the original picture of this is nothing special and has enough jpeg artifacts to make my eyes bleed, you're not getting it except on request. Either way, please enjoy Sakura Taisen's most iconic song, Geki! Teikoku Kagekidan!

This song is basically a quick march. Although it adds violins for the femininity and electric guitar for ferocity, it still has the hallmark traits of a march, the cadence, the counter melody, the prominent brass sound from trumpets, and the patriotic feeling. This is basically the marching anthem of the Imperial Fighting Troupe.

I know she's NOT Noriko Hidaka (voice actress of Akane Tendo, Noriko from Gunbuster) but she has a remarkably similar tone when she sings.

Sakura wars characters are so deep and well developed. Story keeps surprising player. Memorable moments of Koubu deploying, Shoukeimaru, train, battleship mikasa, turning of Ayame, healing emotional wounds of all team members, the epic sacrifices before final battle. The game is so full of ups and downs...SakuraWars1 seems to have done such a good job, making me feel the sequels are not as good. Thank you once again :-D
Jon Chan Since TVTROPES described Sakura Wars as "First Installment Wins", it's safe to say SEGA just got their job cut in half which Sakura Wars game they'll officially bring in, as long as Funimation recognizes SEGA is a principal owner of the IP and work with SEGA to cross-promote.

Not just a reboot. I wanna see what happens to the story in modern anime production after the original troupe won in the OG anime. I never got to play any of the games so I missed out on experiencing a lot of the succeeding lore.

@@Inari_the_Fox I know it has. But I want SEGA to translate the other 3 ( & their take on 1) since it would take ages till they fan translate the 2nd game, according to them Iwakuraprod folk.
i want to see all sakura taisen games (especially ones like dramatic dungeon, sakura taisen v prequel with gemini, ps2 remaster of sakura taisen 1) but to me I think sega doesnt see any worth in translating them for now.
idk if shin sakura taisen was successful but if it was then that might motivate them to work more on sakura taisen.

@@vv09 They have Sakura Wars 1 and 2 translated on Sega Dreamcast (even with English dubbing), but Sega in last moment decided to not release them in West (along with Skies of Arcadia). Similar situation with Sakura Wars PS2 Remake. Also NISA wanted translate PSP ports of Sakura Wars 1 + 2 but Sony rejected them with help with translation. They said ,,this is text game not real game, and f... you NISA''.
@LintuWaterfall He was the President of Sega of America from the mid-to-late 90's, who famously declared that America wasn't interested in RPGs and put a heavy emphasis on 3D games for the Sega Saturn. Unfortunately, those decisions ultimately killed the Saturn in America. That, and the cancellations of pretty high profile games like Policenauts as well as RPGs like Sakura Taisen, among many others.

He was the DAN DIDIO of Sega in the mid-1990s! Utterly clueless and feckless. A few of the developers did speak up and the President/founder of Working Designs, Vic Ireland, didn't stay quiet about what a moron he thought Stolar was!
While you can't blame all Sega's misfortunes on Stolar, he sure ruined the reception of the Saturn in the US and literally KILLED game development for it in the US 18 months before the Dreamcast launched!
At least I knew about imports and could buy import games. What about all the kids that invested Saturns and no longer could find decent games?!? Half the good stuff was left behind in Japan!!!!
Sakura Wars has _RPG elements,_ but is traditionally more tactical based.

If you didn’t know by now, it was also a video game! Technically, the games were first, but semantics. Pretty decent Visual Novel/ARPG hybrids, I recommend them if you’re into the VN genre!

Still find the first version nicest. Maybe cos its first song for the series, sang with pure emotions. The female background chorus enhances that further, not sure why they removed that in later versions. Although this song and otomesaku stands out, all the songs in SakuraWars1 are really great. The inserted song (1:05-1:18) has style highly resembles Suzhouyequ, 1930s famous japanese song sang by Lee Kou Ran (written with different kanji).

Celeste LaScala this series. It has all the trappings of one, especially if you played the games.
I prefer the OVAs to what I saw of the TV series. I couldn't even make it through a volume of the TV show when it was released by ADV... It was SSSSOOOOOO boring and the production values were dirt-poor.
The OVA's were lush and much better-animated -- at least the first and second series released. As I understand it, it went downhill after the first two series. They introduced new characters but they just didn't have the impact of the original crew in the first OVA and its sequel series.
They TRIED to sell this series in the US but the game had mixed reviews and hit with a thud. It was one of the later games with utterly different characters than the original crew.
Sakura was my favorite of the girls and her voice actress has a lovely singing voice. She was the lead/main vocal for at least 3/4 of the Sakura Wars series, games and animation!
Her vocal quality reminds me of Noriko Hidaka, the voice actress for Noriko from Gunbuster as well as the elder sister in My Neighbor Totoro. Most of us know her best as the original Japanese voice for Akane Tendo. Heh -- sweet voice for a character (Akane Tendo) who really wasn't such a sweet girl... psychotic, spoiled maniac bitch was more like it! (On the other hand, the English-speaking voice actress from Canada, showcased the nasty side of Akane much better. It was unintention, I'm sure, but she could sound like a mega-bitch at times.) Poor Ranma... If he'd had brains and sense of preservation, he would have left within a year or let the last prince just take her away and not go after her for his own good!

They totally squashed Ohgami's role in the anime. Surprisingly, the anime also have its own solid fanbase.

I wish they would re-release the series on Blu ray in North America. They dubbed at least 4 of the OVA series but the only piece of it available/in-print is the generally awful TV series.
The first two OVA series were so much more lush, better-animated, and a lot easier to sit through.
