There are some interesting stories about this track and its follow up songs and surrounding circumstances. Someone should do a documentary on some of these dance tunes.
VICE has a great series callled "The Story Of" about iconic tracks - you should reach out and have them do Pump Up The Jam - would make a great episode!
I’ve seen videos of people trying to do this, and a couple couldn’t even play in time with themselves! You’re accurate to a point where there’s no difference between this and the original song! So glad I’m subscribed to this.

In 1989 in Britain it was overshadowed by Black Box's 'Ride on Time' which stopped Technotronic getting to number one in the chart, and was the biggest seller of the year, but I think 'Pump Up The Jam' ended up being much bigger globally and it somehow still sounds fresh today. A lot of eurodance from that period is very much of its time (clichéd and dated with sounds that seem a bit naff) but this track has staying power.

If you want the correct kick sound, you'll find it on Baby Ford - Fordtrax album. That's where Technotronic sampled it.

Is it documented that they sampled it from Baby Ford (I loved that album, btw). I presumed they used a real TR-909 since most of the drum sounds, including the kick, are clearly from a 909.
