  • The last long weekend in August was the hotest on record and i went to see if i could catch some bass in amonsgst the huge mackerel and whitebait shoals.
    The sea was alive with whitebait which made the fishing tricky but as always i learnt a lot along the way and got reminded of some lure fishing do's and dont's along the way.
    Here are some of the lures i used and the affiliate links. I earn a very small amount from these but it wont cost you anymore.

    Great channel, enjoyed this. Got back into lure fishing this year after many years. Similair set up to you with same reel, great fun and don't need much tackle to cart about as when bait fishing. Had a few mackerel over in Jersey in May on a tiny lure & you really appreciate their power on a light set up! Also pb bass of 6.4 drifting on a boat off Dorset coast using the same gear, electric fishing that was! The lure rod goes everywhere now, lake, river or sea...

    Excellent viewing as usual. I'm in Whitley bay, north Tyneside but the bass are never here in great numbers, but get them now and them mainly while bait fishing. However, when the mackerel show up on the shore and piers, I fish for them on float gear, so much more satisfying.

    Loving your work and really enjoying the videos! I wonder if I can ask for a piece of advice please? Still a newbie to sea fishing and about to enter the world of lure fishing. Budget was a factor and I cast around (sorry!) for ideas and reviews and decided to start out with an 8’ 6” 5 - 28gm HTO Rockfish with a Daiwa Ninja 4000-C reel. I taken some of your advice on a variety of lures but the question I have is about the leader? I’ve loaded the spool with the SeaKnight Manster 30lb braid - I think that may be a bit over the top but reviews suggested going a little heavier than you actually needed. So to my question, and I’m sure you’ll have covered it in one of your many videos but I’m buggered if I can find it, how long should my leader be if I need one at all? Many thanks and keep up the good work!

      Lots of marks given away when they are well known or have featured in Sea Angler check out some of the mark guides . Some places have been hard fought by fishing regularly and I encourage us all to get out there and find our own special spots. Very often in life people look for an easy fix , many of these marks are hard to explain and involve risk of getting cut off by the tide or even rockfalls. I don’t want this on my video getting the good people in to trouble. Real Bass Anglers don’t give away marks.

    • @SaltwaterAngler
      @SaltwaterAngler  Před 4 lety +1

      With hard plastics you don’t need to add a weight for this sort of shore based fishing. If you use soft plastic lures then you can add a weight that attaches to the hook and is part of the lure . It’s a simple way of fishing clean and lightweight but also expensive !

      Same here! Live in Gloucestershire, sea fishing requires me to have to drive to places. Worst of all, I don't have enough knowledge on where and when to fish

    Why do you not keep the fish you catch? What is the point in putting them back? Either eat them, bring them home and put them in a bucket or strap them onto a line and fish for seals! C'mon man! Best regards, Cleg Smegson

      We have a no take of fish under 42cm for bass plus limited to 1 a day. I understand your sentiments here though and I fish to hunt and not play a game but still I'll take a fish to eat if its the right size and species. As for those seals maan those things scare me!

    The thing we would all like to know is where’s that spot your fishing. Such a typical fishing video lots of tips and info but never do they tell us where they are fishing. Good video but please if you are trying to help people be more successful why not help them out by letting people know where your fishing. This is my tip to you Sir 🤫

    • @SaltwaterAngler

      Hi Clint thanks for the comment. There is a culture within Sea Angling that giving away marks is a big no no. With some of my videos on youtube reaching 100k this would start to have an effect on my marks personally. Its not necessarily anglers I fear but those with Gill nets would create more of a problem. This mark is not prolific and I only caught achoolies so not so much of a problem admitedlly!
      There is a real joy in getting out there and discovering marks for one's self and there are lots of mark guides on the channel and I even show the postcode for many. A recent video I filmed in Devon led to me receiving abuse for giving away the mark! It's a tricky one for for sure and I understand the frustration. For me fishing is not about an easy fix and I hope I give enough clues and tips through my learning to add some value. Please check out the mark guide play list and I hope that helps.
      Thanks again for your input and comments, tight lines

      Totally agree. To many feather chuckers as there is! Far to many marks have been swamped due to some youtubers. Google earth costs nothing
