Tim's classical training is in violin but I don't think he ever took any music theory. He just did a wired interview yesterday or the day before and someone was asking about music theory and I believe he said he never studied it.
This is his sig guitar from Ibanez that he convinced them to start making again and he's used it a few times in this most recent album but this is the only song with that sort of flamenco feeling all the way through. They are definitely progressive in the sense that they don't stick to one particular style and aren't afraid to bring in aspects of pop, rap, metal, etc in their music. They're a really great band
Ego Death has been suggested and definitely recommended. I also love The Worst, Yas, Chimera, Icronic, and Look But Don't Touch
Thank you for the correction! I try to get it right the first time, but you know how the internet is. Wikipediaes and fan sites and so on aren't always 100% accurate😅. Ego Death is coming soon! I really like Tim and I have no doubt the whole band kicks ass so we will be seeing more of all of them for sure!
Flamenco shows up pretty heavy in Chimera. Then even in this song it doesn't stay flamenco the whole way, it goes Bossa about halfish way through. These guys are crazy. Tim and Scott are Plano kids too.
FF7 Costa Del Sol beach resort! Its a groove!
Ego Death featuring Steve Vai is a masterpiece that shows the whole band.
The best thing to happen to guitar-based music since EVH, he is inspiring a whole new generation of players. Very catchy music, and he is almost always serving the song first. His approach to composition is also very unique - which helps explain his results - and he has videos on his channel talking about the creative process for individual songs. He is very open and earnest about his music, and seems pretty humble about it.
And the band has a great sense of humour - it may seems like they might take themselves very seriously, but they're almost always having a laugh. Check out their guitar playthrough of Chimera from their Polyphia channel, and their playthrough for Look But Don't Touch from the Guitar World channel, to see more great guitar playing with a bit of a laugh.
I saw someone recommend Ego Death with polyphia and Steve vei and I agree! Or try watching their actual Playing God music video too
Check out Polyphia's Ego Death with Steve Vai. These guys are wild.
the sound hole of the guitar is on the upper body
wow, like Carlos Santana🙏
the hole is a small one up top that aims at the player, so it sounds silent to everyone but the person playing it so it can be played in bedrooms and such without annoying your roomates
Very good job, interesting video reaction. By the way, Houston rocks, and happy to join your site. Keep up the good work Brother. And, check out Bloodbath and CHimera. The new album as well has a few songs with vocals. They kick ass as well.
To see the whole band, their video for the song GOAT was what got them all this recent attention first. They also have a full band playthrough of their song Chimera on their channel, that is better sounding and mixed than the album version.
Also their videos for 40 oz, ABC, and Ego Death are all great.
The guitar is the Ibanez TOD10N (his signature electric is the TOD10, Tree of Death being the inlay pattern). It's a redesign and release of an older Ibanez electric-acoustic from the yesteryear that Tim found in Germany and wanted to do a version of as a signature, and for this album specifically. It does indeed have a sound hole mounted on the top, which is very nice for resonance as you play. Fishman undermounted pickups and built in tuner and all that jazz. I'll say, a signature acoustic electric at only $700, fully featured from a big brand, is an absolute steal. Especially when they offer an even more basic model of the same guitar at $500 (FRH10N). So far my only problem with the guitar has been the delay in getting it to my hands lol.
Polly Fea. Nice, ha.
Awesome reaction, bud!! And always so much fun to see the genuine awe and appreciation for such talent. Another great in-studio version with the whole group is their Neurotica playthrough at czcams.com/video/--zjH4XNZEM/video.html
