Music-wise, the whole persona series is EPIC!!!
And given how old 1 and 2 is, I say the graphics are very good!

Well, my fav is P3, but P2 is pretty good and i love P4 for positive atmosphere. First Persona have amazing music (i mean original PSX version)

Is it just me or did the final bosses of this series get less and less disturbing as the series went on? I mean Great Father and Izanami-no-Okami are freaky looking, but they don't compare to this abomination. But at least Izanami-no-Okami IS the final form and doesn't change into a butterfly. Can anyone explain the meaning behind Pandora for me? What it is, how freaky the boss is, and why the butterfly?
+MrTherandomguy42 Pandora in Greek myth was the 1st all-perfect woman (hence the name Pandora, Pan = all, Dora = gift, overall means the 'all-gifted') created by Zeus and blessed/gifted by the gods and goddesses to be presented to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus, who has "sided with the men on Earth", as a token of Zeus' vengeance disguised in beauty against mankind. Zeus presented her to Epimetheus along with a jar/box, and told both of them not to ever open it even though it's their wedding gift. Long story short, out of curiosity, one day, when Epimetheus wasn't around, Pandora decided to open it. It turned out to be a box full of all evils found in humanity as we now know. She tried all her might to reclose it, but it was all too late; she only managed to seal the only good thing in the box; it was Hope.
In Jungian psychology (which Persona uses A LOT), Pandora is the archetype of ideal perfection in humanity. The jar/box symbolizes human's heart, with all the evil and good inside. In Persona, Pandora is a part of the Ideal Mary and her world (ideal perfection of a human) who wants to open her box/jar (the Deva System that connects to real Mary's heart, mind, and soul) to release what's inside (all-evils = a world where nothing exists, hence the destruction of current reality).
It takes a form of a pupa and imago of a butterfly because in ancient Greek, the word for 'butterfly' rhymes the word for 'soul' (psyche). Since Persona is a RPG franchise that revolves around the perception of human's heart, mind, and soul, hence the decision to make Pandora a butterfly.
Funfact: I once read that Pandora got placed Top 5 / Top 10 of the Most Sickly Disturbing Boss.

Oh okay. Thank you for the info. I can totally see why she was put on such list. Looking back on the main series Persona games, out of all of the final bosses, the only one that doesn't look disturbing is Nyx Avatar from P3: The Journey (Erebus from the Answer looks horrifying though). Just some two cents there. But just by looking at Pandora's first form, I see a lot of sexual themes there. I guess that relates to the evils of humanity thing? I find that rather interesting considering who the final boss in the next game is.
Now that's a boss drowning in symbolism!

Out of curiosity, which final boss in the Persona games would you say is the hardest?
For me, the top three would be Pandora, Night Queen (Snow Queen) and Nyarlathotep from IS.
Nyx and Izanami are more manageable at high levels, but in these games unless you can hit extremely hard or have Glass Wall, you're going to run into problems. A normal party would have the hardest time against those three.
I'd like to know how IS Nyarly is hard, I remember I used the combo attacks and reviving items, in fact I used that attack since I got the ultimate personas in every battle.
+Tom I had problems with Nyarly in IS...maybe because he liked to OS two characters with a single attack, and that 16 hit attack too, but i got him with beads and spam Pegasus Strike ... funny, at my final attempt he killed maya at the first turn, no items to get her back... quite appropriate don't you think? :d
Actually they did. There are NO original sounds from the PS1 version. The attacks, voices, demons... everything is changed.
The song makes Pandora be less disgusting.

Actually, that's how he looked in japan, same with mark being black, that was only in the U.S. Version.
Inferior theme songs?Don't you remember The Battle for everyone's souls?For me Battle for everyone's souls is the best persona theme songs ever.I don't think that this is important but,Nyx Avatar for me is the best last boss,in all personas.And you have to remeber about the answer too.I do really think persona 3 has the best story,and the best way to summon the personas.About the gameplay,I have to admit it that persona 4 is superior,and about the characters I don't know I never played persona 2

so its true his skin color was changed for the north amarican release of this game...was there a reason for it?
+gawreluck Yes, it's true. All the names were Americanized, their hair colors were changed to either blonde, brunette, or redhead (minus Yuki and a very few NPCs), and they use Masao's nickname (Mark) as the official name of the character and change the skin color to be that of an African-American. Even applied the whole lingo for his conversation style.
It has been said that the reason was because at the time when the 1st edition of Persona was released, people were still into RPGs with English-influenced names instead of Japanese. So, in order for them to appeal more to the American audience, they did all that.
