- From October 11 to 14, 2018, a rare event took place at the Robert-Bourassa facility: the eight spillway gates were opened, one after the other, letting the water flow through at full capacity. These tests are part of Hydro-Québec’s dam safety program. Testing is performed every year, but the spillway gates are usually opened only to about 10%. This was the first time since 1987 that such a large flow was let through the gates.
Magnificent! Canada should be so proud of this engineering marvel. To all the men and women that were part of this project, I salute you, for you have tamed a small part of nature, but given mankind a resource to make life better for everyone.
Amazing..truly a man made marvel and a big salute to the ingenuity and hardwork of the thousands of engineers and workmen who toiled in inhospitable conditions in this remote northern Quebec area to build this mammoth structure, that is such an important factor in the economic strength of the province of Quebec.
That's the beauty of civil engineering 👌
Wow! What a nice, tight video!! Well done!
Bravo à toute l’équipe!
On my bucket list of things to see.
Check the dates first. They are open to public from middle June to the end of August, 2.5 months only.
Something was wrong in the gate opening sequence causing swirling flow in the stilling basin... the consequence could be ....

Fascinating...
J'aimerais bien voir les 8 vannes ouvertes en même temps
Je pense que c'est que en cas d'urgence mais j'avoue ce serai cool
A lot can happen in 15 years.
