    With extension cords that long, make a 120V/240V cord out of some 4 conductor SJ/SJTW/TC/IMSA cable to lessen potential drop and even out the load on the inverter. Also gives you the option of 240V at the end for stuff.

    • @HighTechLab
      @HighTechLab  Před 3 lety +1

      That's a great idea! We went ahead and took the big 6/4 SOOW cord that we were running the welder and plasma cutter on to build the lab and setup a temporary distribution box to power stuff until we get all of our electrical dialed in.

      Thanks!!! We sure are enjoying getting back in the swing of tings. Spending a day today tinkering with things really has been fun, something I haven't gotten to do in quite a while.

    Been a long time watcher of your channel good work on the shipping containers. How did you squeeze them together like that did you cut a side out of each one and weld them together.

    • @HighTechLab
      @HighTechLab  Před 3 lety +1

      We've been making a whole video series on the channel! For some reason I think CZcams isn't showing them to all subscribers. Essentially, we used an excavator, welded together the corners, then welded the whole roof, cut the walls out, welded the floor, ground it all smooth, and here we are. We are releasing new episodes each Friday, there are 4 more episodes pending release.

    Any plans for the shipping container floors? Don't these containers use wood treated chemicals you wouldn't want to be exposed to long term ?

    • @HighTechLab
      @HighTechLab  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't believe the floors have any chemicals to be worried about, but we do plan to make them nicer. Once the cost of materials comes down a little bit more we are going to sheet the floor with OSB, then put some vinyl plank type floor in. We have an environmental chamber to get moved in here that weighs over 1000 lbs, on wheels, and we want to make sure that it will be strong enough to support that rolling around. Unfortunately there is a bump in the middle of the room, so we need to put the OSB down to make everything nice and even/level so that as we roll things around we don't hit any snags.

    No ventilation... fresh air exchange?

    • @HighTechLab
      @HighTechLab  Před 3 lety +1

      Not yet, but that's coming soon enough. We want to add some doors that can be opened as well as a two-head mini split unit.

      Thanks a ton! It's been a while since I've been able to play with things, today was the first day in a long time I got to spend most of the day tinkering. Good stuff. Enjoying every moment of it.

    I'm curious about the insulation, maybe it will be covered in a future video but how do you mitigate moisture problems from condensation on the outside of the insulation?

    • @HighTechLab
      @HighTechLab  Před 3 lety +1

      For now we have a dehumidifier running when we are in here. The plan is to cover it all with OSB, but right now a sheet that is 4 feet by 8 feet currently costs $33/each, and when you need 70 sheets of it for the whole room, it's worth waiting until the pandemic stuff chills out and the cost of materials drops back down.

    • @ornotermes
      @ornotermes Před 3 lety +1

      @@HighTechLab I'm certainly no expert, but will OSB be enough to stop the humidity for permeating to the cold steel where it can condense?

    • @randacnam7321
      @randacnam7321 Před 3 lety +1

      @@HighTechLab Problem with OSB is the inferior pullout strength of screws compared to veneer ply. I used 1/2in plywood in my powershed and 3/4in plywood for all surfaces where equipment is mounted and it was not that expensive. That was a much smaller building and was 5 years ago and inflation has been really bad this past year.

    Wasnt your original lab in Idaho? Why move to Ca?

    • @HighTechLab
      @HighTechLab  Před 3 lety +1

      So we had the off-grid ranch, where we made a bunch of videos with solar panels and batteries, and all that good stuff. I took a job up in Idaho and moved up there for around 2 years. I had the shop up there, but it was really difficult to have access to all the stuff down on the off grid ranch to make the really good videos. Jarrett (I mentioned him in the video) and I started a business selling batteries, inverters, etc. and seeing as how there is much more people with solar and that type of thing down in california, and they are sick of the utility companies, it made it really desirable to be closer to home again.

      It literally is almost always maxed out. We push our computers hard for all the audio/video/photoshopping we do. Our webstore and website have a lot of stuff going up day-by-day.

    Have you considered about some roof windows, would be great for more pleasent feeling and eyes saver.
    Best regards.

    Why do you keep so much crap in rack cabinets lol wouldn't it be better to get some schelves for that ?

    It's hard to tell from the video, but it might be good to get the back end of that laptop elevated a little for some better airflow... It'll still probably run max fans, but I would imagine you'd get some better performance.

      It may be that I had to reupload the video shortly after I posted it. There was a small issue in editing, we had a dip to black transition over the whole second clip
