Huge hit in Australia and New Zealand in 1981, but nowhere else - I just wonder how big this might have been internationally 15 years or so on when the cool, swing style came back for a time (Harry Connick, Michael Buble etc).
I have such fond memories of that era and, in year 11 high school, this brilliant tune became an anthem for us all, much to the chagrin of our teachers. 😁
My mate lived above billy, we use to get stoned as fuck and every now and than you’d hear billy jamming (he resides in Gosford Australia, just in case you read this billy ( me and Jeremy really wanted to come down and jam but we were always to high lmao 😂 best landlord and awesome guy! Absolutely talented 🎉🎉 good memories with the mates. 😅
Aahh yes a talented billy he was....a few big hits in the early 80s with many more great tunes that unfortunately didnt get the justice they deserved...and the chicks just loved him n his buddy hollyesque good looks😁😁😁😁
Brilliant. I've always like this number. It's what you get when you toss 'S'wonderful' and 'Strike up the Band' into a blender and leave it a few years.
I relate to this song very bloody much. Bad habits have stuck to me through my own undoing .Though I blame know one else and I wouldn't change a thing because I love life
Those were definitely the good ol' days, but even in 1981 this was a very retro album, which was a big part of its attraction. If it was recorded today it would be all done on computer, without a single session musician, and would sound terrible. Unfortunately, the music industry's bad habits became far worse than Billy's ever were. For those who really want to hear "Bad Habits" the way it was supposed to be heard, you'll need to find a used vinyl LP copy. I'm glad that I did and can indulge in Bad Habits on a regular basis.
Some lyrics for the lovers of this hit! Can't help myself , bad habits Well I'm running wild, lost control And it's a shame to think That a boy like me Has got so many , bad habits Well I'm off the rails My resistance fails tempations got A hold on me And I can't refuse Because I always lose Can't help myself Bad habits Well it just ain't right That it's something I can't fight I can't stop going out and having fun Well I tried to be good, But I knew I never could Cause I've got more bad habits than anyone When I get the urge I just got to splurge I'm a slave to all my desires Well I'm in a mess Because I can't repress all of these Bad habits Can't help myself Bad Habits Well I'm running wild Lost control And it's a shame to see That a boy like me Has so many bad habits Well it just ain't right It's something I can't fight I can't stop going out and having fun Well I tried to be good But I knew I never could Cause I've got more bad habits Than anyone When I get the urge I just got to splurge I'm a slave to all my desires Well I'm in a mess Because I can't repress all of these Bad habits All of these Bad habits x3
Im a 40 year old guy who just managed to track down a song from his childhood from mothers music collection. ... and I've JUST found out Billy Field is white... thats enough internet for today.
Is it just me or does anyone else keep thinking of the scene in 'Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities' where the N.S.W C.I.B receives sandwich bags containing both sandwiches and bribes? That was the perfect song for that scene.
+Friday Night in the Video Room, True, but I think Billy was probably recording for himself rather than for chart success - "Bad Habits" was certainly one of the more unusual Top 40 hits in 1981- maybe its difference struck a chord with the public?
Oh wow!! What a magnificent song! I didn't know this was an Australian Artist! So proud!
Remember hearing this on the radio back in 1981 when i was off sick from school 😊
This gorgeous, classy, cheeky little swing tune brings back so many nostalgic childhood memories 🥰……
It certainly does.
Best singing voice I've heard Down Under, period!

It was very popular in South Africa too.
That instrumental break in the middle is killer!
Love the SWING! 🎶🎺❤
Even hints of Satchmo... 👍 Brilliant! 💎

Yes.
But it still didn't make wearing glasses socially acceptable at school.
@@ChristopherNFP Funny, but it seems like they're somewhat fashionable for teenagers these days. 35 years too late for me, alas!
haha I bet!
I think I want this song played at my funeral
an anthem for a young man like myself who just can't get right.
all of us 😀

He still is talented. I’m going to a wedding next week where he’s the singer.
@@petergill6651 very true peter but iam sure even billy would agree that his best days are behind him🤔 enjoy the wedding 🤗
I love this song Billy!
Oh, this brings back such good memories......... I sang this song in 2011 during one of our big shows in community theatre. Great, great song!
That song never gets old 😎👍👍👍
Sure I remember him on Hey Hey it’s Saturday singing this.
Think you’ll find that was Ricky May.
I still have this on vinyl. Great album!
Me too!! The whole album is worth listening to.
Same ❤
Hey hey hey - great memories. Loved BFs work growing up. Thanks Billy
Brilliant. I've always like this number. It's what you get when you toss 'S'wonderful' and 'Strike up the Band' into a blender and leave it a few years.
I used to listen to him at the Golden Sheaf Double Bay many moons ago ah memories
Thank you Billy, for being part of my childhood...............
I like a song with a unique theme and Bad Habits ticks that box!
My bad habit is junk food....!!
Iwant this played at my funeral
I relate to this song very bloody much. Bad habits have stuck to me through my own undoing .Though I blame know one else and I wouldn't change a thing because I love life
Absolutely!
Interestingly I took a belting from the cops for covering for a good mate of mine called Steven Smith!
Love Billy Field.😍
Couldn't not of said it better myself Billy keep up the good work
A real classic 😊

Best song ever!
I love the part in the clip where the piano player dances.
Why would you not, if you're a bloke?! Heh~Heh~Heh! (Lech~ey Sid James style cackle...)
Oh that's rather funny! He switched from a Noumann studio mic to an A.M Radio Electrovoice RE20!
what a song...
I love this cheeky song! 🤣
Love it!☺🙌😚
Hearing this again reminds me of the Jimmy Young show, happier times (i think)
Omg i remember this wow😊
Oldie but goodie
I love this song & it certainly out two years before I was born =^)
Was 14 now 51 🙋♂️ was there another hit from him

John Dudley carperters
nice fishing lures - carpenters
John Dudley Bad Habits is based on Gershwin's "rhythm changes."
Listening to classic albums on Spotify is one of my “bad habits” I’m afraid.
Billy still performs around the Central Coast area

That it's something I can't fight
I can't stop going out and having fun

Seems like yesterday…. 40 years??
Im a 40 year old guy who just managed to track down a song from his childhood from mothers music collection.
... and I've JUST found out Billy Field is white...
thats enough internet for today.
I thought it was Louie Armstrong, so my head exploded to find out this is the singer, still a bloody great song no matter who sang it
Is it because of his smooth scratchy voice, because that also afflicts white people too, you know?!!
I never thought of it that way ...but now that you mentioned it ...he does sound kinda black-ish 😃
he is Australian as well lol
Yep agree almost word for word. (I’m 44)
Tops
Is it just me or does anyone else keep thinking of the scene in 'Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities' where the N.S.W C.I.B receives sandwich bags containing both sandwiches and bribes?
That was the perfect song for that scene.
That's exactly why I'm here now 🤣🤣
Was a great series, wish there were more Australian crime series
is that Karin Fairfax on the piano?
My theme song
I guess people were easier to please back then..
Ain't that the truth.
The sybarites anthem.
What’s green and hangs off piano keys? One of billy fields bad habits!
If Billy received $1 for every time someone called him "Billy Fields", he would be a very wealthy man!
Same goes for Cliff 'Richards'

and John Lennons

By the look on his face, some of these bad habits are pretty enjoyable?
He doesn't seem to mind ay but that's why he says he's lost control and let's it out I guess but at the same time it fades as he releases it...
Shut the door
How come ed Sherrin is allowed to have a song the same title as Billy Field (bad habits)
Was there a video of this song containing bloopers from professional sports?
Theraphy
Bloke on
...
The HABIT hahaha didn't expect man-kinds bad habits himself here. How you been?
Old song huh😅
Came here because I started listening to Ed Sheeran
If a song could suck more than this then god knows.
Well, he sank without a trace after that song.
+Grace Gorman no, he followed it up with You Weren't In Love With Me
And then in 1982 he released the album "Try Biology", with the single "True Love" getting into the Top 20 on the National Top 40 chart.
Graham Clayton and then he sank without a trace!
+Friday Night in the Video Room,
