      Well you've learnt rubbish. Everything he says is a given is not. Yes, 750,000 arabs were displaced in 1948 but the zionists only expelled 15%, and this was only because they had tried to kill the jews. There was no policy to expel. 200,000 arabs remained and they have become the 1.8 million today. They are about 21/22% of Israel. The Israeli declerations asked them to stay and build a county with the jews! The rest either left because the arab army's told them to, planning to kill the jews and then they could go back, or left themselves. Many sent their wives and kids our of the land because of the fighting. It was the arabs that declared war. He neglects to mention the 850,000 jews expelled from the arab world at that time. He talks about 1 million killed in India and seems to think that is better than the 750,000 arabs that were displaced. There is so much more too. Seriously, this is taking snippets of truth and creating his own rhetoric. If you want to discuss further contact me on telegram. @space_cadet81. I also have a small group I will invite you to if you message me. Learn the TRUTH! Googe al-husseini. He held recruit arabs for the nazis. was part of the final solution. He escaped punishment. Trained abbas and Arafat and started the PLO. They are direct descendants of the Nazis. The "peace" under the Ottoman empire is true if jews were subservient to muslims. Paid a high tax. Wore a star to signal they were jewish. Were not allowed to build places of worship or ride horses (only donkeys) and many more things. Israel gave arabs full rights the same as the jews. They are excluded from having to serve in the army but can choose to. EgyPt has a border with Gaza. Gaza was not under a blockade in 2005. This only happened after they started to attack Israel. Egypt closed the border for 6 years when Hamas took power - not because of Israel but because Hamas came from the muslim brotherhood. google "Black September". In 1951 the Palestinians killed the King of Jordan and drank his blood. There are 22 muslim countries in the middle east. 56 majority worldwide. 5.5 million sq m of land in the middle east. Jews have 8,500 sq m. Muslims took the land by conquest but jews should give the land they won in wars they did not start back. Jordan is 78% of the British mandate. Jews were given 55% of the remaining 23% and 40% of the population would have been arab. Yet, they said NO and declared war. Seriously, he is lying to you!

Those factions all have some merit to my current knowledge, but I’m not nearly important enough to decide which wins out. Just a communist.) I consider Vijay Prashad as a comrade. He doesn’t know what to do, but he knows a lot about what has happened so far, not just because he’s a classically trained historian but because he cares and has been paying attention, and he wants to do everything he can to get us to a better situation. They’re just an effort to claim a higher moral ground. None of it matters. The question is what _now_ moves the situation forward to something (more or less) permanent, peaceful?

      he mentions facts. but not all of them. How does he fit into his view that in 1948 cc 700,000 Jews were evicted from Arab countries. Another fact is that over 1 millíon Arabs live in Israel wíth equal rights and a vote to the parliament. (he says that they are encouraged to leave the country and to give up their citizenship - but this is only his own prejudiced evaluation - but he presents that as if it is a fact. ) Actually there are many facts which he does not mention which are inconvenient to his predetermined view. BUT it is a fact that in his speech he refers, in humiliating terms, to the intelligence of anyone who doesn't agree with him or sees a certain situation in a different way than his. I would not (don't) expect a faculty member of a respectable university to express himself in such a way.

Jews had their Golden Age in Islamic Spain for 800 years until the Spanish Inquisition drove them both out to North Africa. The Jews chose to live with Muslims.
      It is a Muslim family who holds the key to Holy Sepulchre. The Palestinian Christians go out before sun rise during Ramadan to wake up their Muslim neighbours for eat before starting their fast.
      This was the peace and harmony the 3 religions had before the British and Americans created Israel and European imposters who came in as refugees terrorised the indigenous people.

    Talking about historical right to a land is ridiculous and a-historical. Humans came out of Africa and therefore, shall they all return there? Just the idea of a land belonging to humans is ridiculous. And the colonial idea of a "sparsely populated land" is also ridiculous since what is the definition of "sparse"? Canada is barely populated, so are many Western US states, hence everyone should be allowed there to "take those empty land", right? One need a 10 seconds intellectual honesty to realise the ridiculousness of those arguments, and how they are not even worth mentioning.

    • @leroitiaks
      @leroitiaks Před 4 měsíci +1

      I do not like wasting my time on youtube but here is a last response. First of all, you completely missed the point: there is no picking and choosing who is right or wrong, as V. Prashad so eloquently put it. It is about the dangers to the socio-political order if people start to ask for land based on some barely provable "historical[sic]" record.
      The second issue is that the current capitalist way of defining land access is negative: that one's claim is meant to EXCLUDE others from access. This is a remnant of feudalism. Now, what many settler-colonial citizen and their descendants in the West fail to understand is that slogans like "Land Back" (the Native in North America/Turtle Island) and "From the River to the Sea" (in Palestine and beyond) and not exclusive of any specific ethnicity/religion, but rather inclusive and in a sense more "democratic" in nature. But I bet such a thought process is hard to understand for one who grew up benefiting from an exclusionary system.
      Now you can go ahead an troll and argue, I am done. If the host of this channel is interested in philosophy, he should pick up these trains of thoughts and explore them adequately through the philosophical lens.

    When i was on the Left, i heard about Sabra and Shatila.
    LATER, I learned that PLO had moved from Jordan to Lebanon after they betrayed their host, the King of Jordan, with a coup attempt that failed. Jordan have been reluctant but eventually bombed and mortared the Palestinian rebels, killing about 15,000. That's called Black September.
    (Jordan _IS_ a Palestinian state in Palestine, the first Palestinian state in all history, created by the British. 90% of citizens are Palestinians living in the same Palestinian villages, led by a king from Arabia, who THEY asked to rule them. Britain gave away THREE FOURTHS of British Palestine to Jordan, leaving ONE FOURTH, of which half or ONE EIGHTH of Palestine was eventually allowed to become the State of Israel.)
    After residing in Lebanon, the PLO did a drive-by shooting on several Christians outside a church, which sparked Civil War for 14 years that destroyed Beirut and left about 150,000 dead, with factional fighting between rival Islamic groups and Christians. People were killed at checkpoints based on their identity card.
    Israel had gotten involved or had been ASKED to intervene.
    Towards the end of this long struggle, a Christian Phalangist militia took revenge on the PLO and Palestinian faction, for past atrocities caused by the PLO. That's Sabra and Shatila.
    To blame? Israel of course.
    Who is NOT held responsible for all that k......? The PLO & Palestinians.

      @ihavenojawandimustscream4681 Před 4 měsíci

      This is an extreme oversimplification. For starters, only 10% of Jordan was actually habitable; so when you say that Britain gave the majority of Colonial Palestine to Jordan this "majority" was mostly desert; a lot of Palestinians came from villages that Israel now occupied. Lebanon was another can of worms entirely; although the war was triggered by Palestinian influx which strenghtened Sunni power in Lebanon, it had more to do with already-existing sectarian tensions that would've been triggered by some other causes even if we ignore the PLO. Anyhow, all the factions involved had genocidal tendencies due to the stake at war (communal power) and it wasn't really useful to ask which side started what, not dissimiliar to other such communal crises in Yugoslavia or Iraq

    Nothing is like any other thing. And the indigenous genocide and slavery dominate American reality to this day, despite the denial. And removal history is NOT so ancient, outside the Balfour declaration zone. In America it is all around us and simply ignored by white liberals and VERY recent AND ongoing. And also of course many many families of relatively recent white american migrants, not just Jewish people, DO have traumatic histories that are recent. I can trace easily and directly to people cleared from their land and deported on any excuse, simply because the english elite wanted it. We have oral histories and documents. Half of Scotland is CUrently owned by the same families who were "granted" it in the 1790s. Prashad is quite right to broaden the lens, but I say he doesn't broaden it far enough. Europe was internally colonized as it was externally colonizing. This should produce solidarity at some level, but tends to simply muddy the waters. Nonetheless it is history.

Or is that completely outside the realm of scrutiny because the Ottomans were neither Europeans nor white? Further, curious to see whether he scrutinizes the Middle East and its predominantly Arab Muslim population for signs of racism in their treatment of minorities and other groups found within that region.

    He says "from the very beggining of the enslavement of humans ,in the trans-atlantic slave-trade".
    This is wrong ,human slavery predates history ,it is extremely old ,it did not begin with the trans-atlantic slave trade. I find that a lot of americans believe that but this guy doesn't even sound american ,weird...
    Even institutionalized slavery predates the trans atlantic slave trade ,before the europeans ,arabs were already sailing to the west coast of africa to buy slaves and bring them to arabia to sell to other arabs.
    Also a lot of people who believed slavery started with the trans-atlantic slave trade also believe these europeans used to enslave africans from the west coast ,this is false. The overwhelming majority (over 99%) were enslaved by other african tribes and the eurpoeans and arabs would buy them already enslaved.
    Sometimes their own tribe used to sell them off as slaves in exchange for clothes ,jewelry and other types of goods they did not know how to produce or did not have access to otherwise.

      Lmao he didn't say that trans-atlantic slave trade was the very beginning of slavery in human history. He was merely pointing out how from the very beginning of this process in the trans-atlantic slave trade (which is a particular temporal context he chose to focus here to make the point), humans have sought to break away from this monstrous system and this choice was never a practical one, because they often preferred death over enslavement. Resistance has always been against the pragmatism of the "civilized" monsters. He's not saying that your white ancestors started all the horrible things in human history lol.

    • @inaruboricua
      @inaruboricua Před 4 měsíci +2

      What part of "transatlantic" is difficult to understand? The point also is this was a new nation of constitutionally "free" people (ignoring the reservations, as usual) that still justified not slavery from conquest but race-based slavery for commerce and profit as part of its "free republic." I really like how some people choose to ignore the racial aspect plus the intergenerational aspect in "civilized" European societies, unusual even among the much older civilizations. Racists are so special.
