    They could have given her a few more episodes to develop, and a funeral where people *actually admitted* Alicia wasn't a bad person. Killing her off as they did just made her character feel incomplete.

      "not a bad person".. well, let's say, Clark helped her to not be a bad person anymore... but don't forget, she probably killed her ex boyfriend, she used to bully and bit the sh*t out of her parents, she try to kill Lana and Clark, she came back and drugged and almost r*ped Clark... bro, she was a peace of work. But despite all that, we ended up caring and even somehow chipping Clark and her... It's that good of a job these writers did with her character.

      Rewatching the series now, there definitely wasn't enough closure. I don't think the writers expected how attached the viewers would be to her character. She deserved a better ending.

      +Varun Hans They owned up to it. Except for Lana. I mean I know she has a right to hate Alicia but, she should have at least said some kind of condolence to Clark. I watched this entire episode and she doesn't even show up at the end. What's really good about this episode is that it's legit. When someone like Alicia, with a bad past ends up being a suspect again the majority would turn against her. Which is reasonable, however when the smoke clears and everything is out in the open. Some own up to their mistake for giving into mob mentality, some own up to theirs for letting too much experience cloud their judgment, while others refuse to even acknowledge let alone own up to their mistakes. Lois was the first to help Clark, she told him where the killer was and even tried to stop him from making a big mistake. Chloe was on the wagon, but when Alicia revealed Clark's secret, it made her realize there was more to her friend than she realized, which in turn made her realized there was also more to Alicia than the psycho she thought she was. John and Martha who while judgmental were just looking after their son and even got taught by him inadvertently about his faith in people, a trait that becomes essential to Superman. Lana and Jason on the other hand, the latter of which only met Alicia through that day, never owned up to their own wrongs even after both Alicia's death and her innocence proven.

    • @krisandorran6336
      @krisandorran6336 Před 8 lety +7

      +Shanethefilmmaker Alot you say here makes sense, but I dont think they really did, at least not good enough. The way you explain it, they only did it indirectly. Yeah Lana had a right to be upset by what Alicia tried to do, but she didnt have to be so bitchy. But while Jonathan does comfort Clark abit here which is good, he never really says hes sorry. Only that its not Clarks fault. And look at Martha.. all she does is giving that damn stare, kinda like the nasty stare she gave the previous episode.

    • @Shanethefilmmaker
      @Shanethefilmmaker Před 8 lety +5

      +Kris Andorran Actually they did directly own up to it. John and Martha didn't like Alicia, but as Clark's parents they saw how much her death hurt him and did what parents did, try to comfort him over it. When Chloe found out about Clark, she did her best to offer support as well, while at the same time tried to get a grip on knowing what he can do. That's a lot of weight on her shoulders. Lois knew what it was like to lose loved ones and even while doing what the other three did, she went the extra mile and help Clark track down Alicia's killer and bring him to justice. Each one had their reasons, legit reasons to hate Alicia, but put it aside for their son/friend's sake. Lana didn't even check on him even after it was proven Alicia didn't try to kill her and Jason that time. Nor was there any mention in the episode after of her showing some concern over his grief.
      Long story short, The underestimated Clark's faith in people and they sans 1 person owned up to it by doing what they can to make up for what they said earlier.

    This is the one scene where Ma and Pa Kent truly feel horrible. Unable to help Clark get over the guilt of letting someone close to his heart be taken away. Must have also felt worse for wrongfully blaming Clark for getting married to Alicia, who put him on Red kryptonite without his consent

      Yeah. I mean everyone was suspicious of her. And in the end she died. They probably didn't know what to say. It's not easy at all. They are always there for him and that's what makes it sometimes so heartbreaking. Clark deserves better and she shouldn't have died. It's sad.

    Alicia did not deserve to die in such a brutal way. The writers could have easily wrote something better for the character. She ended up trying to be a better person and was actually doing really well. Yet, they just killed her like that. And not even in a sort of less gruesome way like maybe an explosion, being caught in a fire, someone shot a bullet, etc...No they just straight up hanged her...I mean c'mon! Like seriously, WTF?!

      Sometimes life works that way everyone dies at some point this was to show people to do their best to be a good person, not to mention Clark dealing with grief sorrow and really getting angry for the first time and be glad the writers brought her back after season two at all, she could have easily been a one and done villain, but instead they made her matter and be remembered.

  • @anxofernandez3344

    I really liked the way the show really hammered home the responsibilities of the hero and how Clark carried the weight of the world on his shoulders until he began to find allies and friends who helped him. He had to deal with the pain of loss before he could fulfill his destiny. Many of the people he loved eventually died, left him or turned on him.
    The best thing this show did was showing the learning process and how he became Superman, completely scraping the "superboy" character and even the idea that Clark became Superman immediately when he arrived in Metropolis after years in the Fortress of Solitude. This show humanized the character and made it more sympathetic. I wish the interpretations after this had followed the template or even accept Smallville as its Canon even if all the actors changed.

In the episode in season 5 where Clark had sex with Lana, Johnathon was a lot easier on Clark but John Scheneider said no because he would be harder on Clark. Annette O'Toole should have told the producers "Martha would not be mad at Clark for what he did under red kryptonite, but maybe for trusting Alicia in the first place."

    You could even tell that Chloe was getting really sick of her to be honest and so is everybody else and it would have been really funny because I would have loved to seen you know Lois and Lana get into a fight because Lois would have kicked her ass if she hurt Clark ever again.
    I mean Lana was really pretty in all but to be honest she just had too much baggage you know her first boyfriend goes in the military comes back what we think basically if it turns out to be a clone and he died in the war. And did some of you people knew that this was the only episode we ever get to see Clark going after someone for revenge about killing someone that he loves.

      It's like he said in the clip. He felt guilty for her death because he suspected her as well. Everyone in town was blaming her and the one person that's supposed to love her doesn't believe her. She died because she was alone when the villain did what he did. If Clark would have believed her, then she might not have been alone or felt alone. Hell, they might have been out on a date at the time she was supposed to be attacked. He felt guilty because he feels like he should've believed her over everyone else because he loved her and knew that she wouldn't do any of those things anymore.

      Clark was truly in love i would say other than Lois, Alica i think would have also made him to be able to fly like he did with Lois and that he was also able to share his secret with her as well.

    I didn't mind the fact that she died, but I did have a problem with how quickly she came and went. I feel like they could've explored more. Five or six episodes in the season would have been far more satisfying in my opinion.
