He was uknown in China, invited as "the wild card", and they thought, that it will be good, if he will not fall out after 2 episodes... Other singers were already famous in China.
Dimash sang in all 14 episodes. After the 1st episode he needed a bodyguard, because the song "SOS" was seen by 600 millions chinese on TV...
In 2018 the rules in "Singer" were different, so Jessy J won this year.

The middle eastern yodeling was a sign of respect paid to the original composer of the song who passed in 2015 I believe it was.
Dimash is simply amazing!
On a separate note his new mv “Be with Me” was released today and it’s a big hit. It’s a different genre from this but so would highly suggest you check out Dimash’s other side. It’s something you haven’t seen from him yet.
Dimash is a perfectionist who surrounds himself with people of the highest calibre - sound and lighting technicians, producers, writers, costumers, artists. He has a huge team that he works with and the money he makes apparently goes straight back into producing the highest quality experience for his fans. There is respect, and honour and a sense of camaraderie amongst them, and they have a common goal. Attending a Dimash concert is the most extraordinary experience and honour, and all of this care comes through loud and strong.
We will live a very long time before anyone evenly remotely as great as Dimash comes along again. Unique and masterful.

The guy standing in the white shirt at the end is Igor Krutoy a famous Russian composer who came out of retirement to work with Dimash. He has composed many brilliant songs for him and often accompanies him on the piano. His family were not at this performance. His mother is an opera singer and his father also sings and helps direct his music. Dimash is close to getting his PhD in music. He has a masters degree. Honestly he is extremely talented in so many areas that it blows my mind! ♥️😍🇬🇧

Ogni Pietra (Olimpico) is an amazing song, Id loved to see you react to that. Its full neoclassical Opera, and he does everything from Baritone to Soprano. If that wasnt enough he is world class in all registers. Ive seen it hundreds of times now and it makes my eyes water still.
That melisma is called "yakutian riff" or "joqtaw" ... It's a traditional song in honor to the dead ones. In this case, Dimash is paying respects to the vocal member of the band on stage, the "A'Studio" (from Kazakhistan), who died tragically of heart attack 2005.
This song is from the 90's was arranged in 2018 for DQ voice.
Dimash is a dream to any engineering sound technician.... No modulation required at all (DQ is a master with the mic). He only has to make sure the power doesn't go of, the mic is good enough to he's precious voice, or something explodes when Dimash get's those high notes... LOL

Yes Dimash is the real deal. I love him so much. He gives all the flowers to people in the hospitals. He was classically trained since about 5 years old and worked very hard. He is always surprising us. You shou hear his Operas wow. Your reaction to his song was great. Thankyou.

Dimash came in second in The Singer in China. The competitors have to sing a number of songs over 13 (? something like that) weeks of the broadcasts and are voted on by the audience each time. Some singers are "kicked off" every week. The final score is a result of a tally of the scores of all of the different performances by the singer. It is by invitation only--the contestants are all well-known professionals in the Chinese music scene.
Dimash was invited as a wild card, the first foreigner and the youngest ever to be invited. Scuttlebutt has it that the year he performed, the rules didn't allow a foreigner to win, so he came in second. I don't know about that, but after his first performance he woke up famous--he won the Chinese hearts, and a big start to his international career.

It’s a form of yodelling (except Dimash does it super fast compared with everyone else)! It’s a funeral verge that normally the Kazakh women do at funerals. Dimash put it in to honour the former singer of the band who died of an heart attack in 2015, (A Studio who were playing with Dimash who had an hit with this song in the 90’s, Dimash’s version is much better though, the original is more pop)!
