【Eskimo Rescue (Fong's Version) is the Non-Hip-Snap kayak rescue technique, that enables people with lower limb disabilities to roll a capsized kayak in Eskimo Rescue (T Rescue/ Bow Rescue/ Paddle)| 愛斯基摩拯救 (方氏版)】
This is the 2nd video of the Fong's series, for sharing my teaching experience in an innovative skill (Eskimo Rescue - Fong's Version) with coaches, who are interested in teaching kayaking to the people with disabilities.
Traditional Eskimo Rescue is an effective rescue method (fast, easy, effort-saving)¸ that requires to rotate a capsized kayak with lower extremities (i.e. rolling knee/ hip snap). However, for people with lower extremity disabilities, without any attaching devices (e.g. thigh strap/belt), it was technically impossible in existing Eskimo Rescue.
Eskimo Rescue (Fong's Version) is a Non-Hip-Snap version of Eskimo Rescue, an innovative kayak skill, using hands as feet to right a kayak (probably a breakthrough in the kayaking skills). Eskimo Rescue (Fong's Version) was developed in 2001 by Coach Alex W.K. FONG (Level 3 coach from Hong Kong Canoe Union, coach no. KL3-023)(recently reshot). The Feature of this non-hip-flick skill is that without any help from attaching devices, the upper extremity movement replaces hip flick (rolling knee) as a source of rotational force to right the kayak during Eskimo Rescue. Hopefully, this technical breakthrough may further expand an inclusive environment to people with physical disability in kayaking.
**This skill is applicable in HK sea condition. For your own safety, it is recommended being trained by a qualified instructor/ coach to get the best training effect & to reduce the risk of injuries.

excellent. Another demo technique is to use a body board (1mx0.5m) as a large float to help show the balance positions as the student leans over, and the advantage of a low head and forward bend, and then how to hold the gunwale for their personal situation.
The board also helps avoid the worry that the bow of the rescue kayak is too small or in the wrong place, building up confidence before getting to the 'wet head' situation.
