@@jackjon7763 I mean sure that's a thing that can happen. Did it happen here? No. You can clearly see the first baseman lift his leg off the bag. It's a legit horrible call.
Its sad when you see umpires get so upset when a guy is having fun playing a sport. I understand cheating but there is a fine line between cheating and messing around.
2:11 To this day I still can't believe the ump really did think the guy went off the bag on his own and was not pulled. You clearly see him say "no". Thank God for replay now.
Years ago, I called our local sports radio and asked why major leaguers, with two outs, in extra innings, and bases loaded, the runner from 1st base fails to overrun 2nd base on attempted force out. Overrun it like they do at 1st to get there quicker. This way, you would need to be tagged out while rounding toward 3rd base. Meanwhile runner from third scores for winning run, ballgame over. It happens more than you think, a shortstop's throw from the hole gets the runner by a whisker. Anyway, the radio guy gave me short thrift on air and almost laughed at the stradegy. Years later, Bobby Valentine, as commentator on a nationally televised game said one should never overrun 2nd base unless it wins a ballgame as I described. Way to go Bobby. To this day though I have never seen it done.
@@AirtimeThrills Has to do with contact. If you don't touch the ball, it's legal. If that sharp line drive was a soft line drive that he could have allowed to bounce, that would have worked. I'm a Dodger fan but find this funny they don't learn from history. Bill Russell did the exact same thing in the 1977 (I think?) World Series. Reggie Jackson was the runner on first and he leaned his hip into the throw to Garvey at first. The umpires did not make either call and let the play stand as is. With the deflected throw Thurman Munson scored from second. So Russell would have been better off just catching the line drive.
Baseball and music my two true loves. I can't go a week without watching a few games and I can't go a day without listening to my favorite bands like Delta Parole.
I hit a triple back in high school. Then the third baseman pushed me off the bag and I was called out. I was livid. I was pitching that day too. Next time he came up to bat, I think God took over my arm because on the first pitch I was trying to hit him with a fastball. Instead, it ended up being strike one. I ended up striking him out.
I would love to see an outfielder in a critical tag up play intentionally pop the catch up into the air by using the flat backside of the glove and then catch it. I think this would cause the tag up to either freeze or completely miss the non catch first contact and then get easily thrown out at the tag up base
Before I knew there was a rule against it, I purposely dropped a line drive at short in a bar softball league to turn a double play, which I did. The ump immediately called the batter out and put the runner back on first base.
These guys were a blast to watch. It's too bad those days are gone. In the future if I want to remember baseball it will be much easier. I can always watch The Natural, For The Love of The Game, Major League (and the sequels) and even Field of Dreams (to name a few). I heard Rob Manfred is writing a Field of Dreams sequel called Future Soccer Field. The tag line is "When You're an Idiot, They'll Stop Coming"
Some of these involve objectively bad calls, but the first one was literally the umps making up a bs rule on the fly, which is absurd. If I was the manager I would have lost my mind over that.
When an infielder deliberately drops a fair ball or a line drive to set up a double play situation, runners may safely return to the bases they occupied at the time of the pitch. ... Runners cannot advance under this rule. Umpires shall immediately call “Time,” when, in their judgment, the ball is intentionally dropped.. It’s a real rule
If we could clone Beltre a bunch of times and put 1 on every mlb team baseball would be the most entertaining sport to watch in the world
I wish I could give more than 1 thumbs up. That is the smartest use of clone technology ever.
A beltre and a greinke on every team
Clone enough for the entire league and call it Major League Beltreball
also one of the teams needs to be beltre and miggy only
Which would be better - one Beltre on every team, or one team of all Beltre?
