East Penn Railroad: Bristol Industrial Track Operations

  • One of the (thankfully) less known East Penn Railroad operations in SE Pennsylvania is the Bristol, PA operations, located about a half hour outside of Philadelphia. This operation interchanges with CSAO at Grundy, located along Amtrak's NEC and works the Bristol Industrial Park, receiving boxcars for a paper recycling facility within the plant. The branch which connects the complex to the NEC is known as the Bristol Industrial Track, which crosses Route 13 before passing through the backyards of Bristol's Green Lane Neighborhood, before passing under the PA Turnpike and entering the park's limits. Power for this operation is ESPN NW2 81, a former Conrail/PRR locomotive, still lettered for ESPN's precursor, PRL, also known as Penn Rail Lines.
Due to the sun being in the totally wrong spot for this run this time of year, I chose the cloudy morning of January 18th to document them. The BIT-18 (BIT for Bristol Industrial Track, 18 for the date) is seen running lite towards Route 13 before pulling four boxcars across Route 13, and disrupting rush hour traffic in the process. After a quick chase, they're seen shoving a cut of outbound cars to the interchange before calling it a day.

Very nice little video! I love seeing older switch engines still being utilized to this day for what they were intended instead of being parked or scraped as many have.

Lovely little video TNJ. Boy can that train whistle honk. I love that bleak landscape also. Subscribed.

Nice. I wonder when that line's usually active? Like the Buselton Branch, I've seen that rail line physically and haven't seen any trains running on that line

Dude this video is legendary. The sound of that EMD engine and that classic horn are like a time capsule. Can't beat PRR on PRR, too!! Love the locations and the cloudiness (praise the Lord lmao!!). Fantastic work brother, and congrats on being the first to nail this run, too!!

I was Born and Raised in Bristol and I think I've only ever seen a Train cross here a few times.

Great video, it brought back a few memories from when I worked in Bristol 12/78-04/01. There was a bit more traffic back then with 3M and a lubricant factory west of the NEC, a wax candle factory just east of it. The spur line after that crossed Farragut Ave and Radcliffe St and served a soap manufacturing building and a book warehouse. That part of the line became a linear park, as did the rest of the spur through Bristol.
