Welcome to the hobby. My first aluminium custom was the Keychron Q2, it was way more expensive than the options we have nowadays like the Sugar65, Xinmeng A66, M67 etc. but nevertheless I do feel that these more expensive keyboards give a better feel when you touch the metal case. I sold it anyway at a decent price, and bought new ones, that's when I realized I'm going down this rabbit hole...

I really love how you are all about preference being at the heart of the hobby, and how the goal isnt just a deep sounding linear board with “thock”. I love your content, keep up the good work for as long as doing so is fun

I like your videos, bc they are informative and at the same time you keep remembering that these are your opinion and it may not overlap. But what I totally love is how they perfectly convey the cat owner experience..... Nola bitting the foam on the background, gettint tired of it and deciding to start another task.... On point.

  • @viralium104

The "No Case Foam" stage sounded absolutely perfect to me 🤌
Just got my first mechanical keyboard earlier this week (fully assembled Keychron V6 w/ knob). Sounds pretty good already (minus the spacebar), but I'm gonna have to see if I can make it sound more like this.

    • @discodiffusioner
      @discodiffusioner Před 4 měsíci +3

Trick for better sounding spacebar is putting some poster putty into the underside of it equally on both sides. It will deaden the sound completely. You can do this for any keys that seem excessively noisy or have the wrong "ring" to them when typing. I'm curious what an entire keycap set deadened with poster putty would sound like.

This is just my assumption for why there are slot cuts in the case. But I think the slot cuts is to balance the weight from the battery on the opposite side. I'm assuming that the battery is lighter than the metal of the case.

I just put together this keyboard tonight after work with some custom keycaps, I bought the barebones version and Akko cream yellow pro V3 switches and it sounds insane. Good pop from the keycaps and super thocky. I think I messed up my pcb a little in one spot because I can't get the right windows button to actuate, and I bent a few pins at first but this is my first "build" and I couldn't be happier. $90 in Canadian funny ducks for a pre assembled aluminum case/pcb/ dampening etc. is wild. side note the stabs are a bit overlubed but I'm sure that will be a self solving problem over time.

Feker actual does make decent product and you can get the Galaxy from other vendors instead of Epomaker if you don't want to buy from a vendor that has questionable aftersales support. It's about 80 for the trimode and 70 for wired only for a kit without switches and keycaps.

I think the definition of leaf spring has evolved with time. I think the Thermal was defined as leaf spring but it was mostly cuts in the alu plate to create the spring effect. I think the Kohaku is a leaf spring similar to Thermal. Nowadays I believe Owlab Spring, Link65, AM, etc. are all what we generally consider leaf spring.

I have this built from it's barebones form and it is outstanding. I ended up using a mix of U4Ts and Epo Budgerigars for switches, and a set of Ghost Judges Apollo keycaps (stuck with the idea of the space theme). The result is is totally thocky, and very satisfying. It's a very heavy board, so those thinking this is good for travel, I'd look elsewhere, perhaps something like the Epomaker TH80SE with the purple keycaps and Budgerigar switches (I have this as well, and it's fantastic for travel purposes).

After going way down the rabbithole that is mechanical key contraptions to the very extreme I can honestly say that the best sounding and the best feeling/functioning keyboard are rarely ever two in the same. Case in point *no pun intended* the most functional keyboard I have that keeps my RSI in check is the Feker Alice 80 67% split ergonomic keyboard with mostly Chinese clone parts feels the very best and sounds the worst. Just my 2 cents.

Wow, the case is aluminium and stock sounds awesome... but you're right, it all depends on the combination of all the parts!
My tiny bit of experience so far is that a LOT depends on the key caps; the material/production process that can make the keys harder or softer on the bottoming-out and return, and the height makes it sound more hollow or shallow.

When doing this repair, it is always amazing to hear the customers reaction. But all I have ever used is HOCKEY TAPE. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Hello, how are you doing? I've been doing a lot of research, I have a couple of keyboards and I think I have some requirements for what I should have, I spend many hours in front of the PC every day working (I'm a developer) I have a couple that I've been using: HyperX Alloy (blue, 100 % - it is the one I liked the least), MxKeys 100%, MxKeys Mechanical (brown) 100%, RedDragon Fizz (red, 60%), Logitech K380 and a couple more membranes that I tested over time
I think based on what I have and have tried I would like something that:
    -keyboard 100% (or75% at least)
    -iso-es distribution
    -if possible silent-red switches
    -wireless
At the same time, I would be interested if it could be obtained from Argentina!
    Do you have any recommendations?

Honestly, I love this! I love keyboards that 'ping' but that's just me and my ADHD being weird. But what I find frustrating is finding a keyboard I love, it says "RGB" and on the site it shows alllll these color combos you can do but then, when you get it, there's like maybe six and no way to customize them. So that's my pet peeve. And as I don't have the hip new Apple iPhone (can't afford it), I'm stuck using a Walmart special $100ish Android which can barely handle Facebook and recently, due to 'lack of storage space' (wait wut), stopped updating even that x'D So know I can do this, at the bare minimum, is a relief!

Which is the best aluminium + gasket-mount custom keyboard out there?
    Wireless would be a plus

There really isnt a best - depends on what you want in a keyboard

@@HipyoTech Thanks for the quick response.
Maybe with some more input you can help.
      Use case:Office, Gaming
Wireless for Office (Home Office), Wireless + Cable (Gaming)
      Gasket-mount, Aluminium Case, Foams
Basically a good out of the box experience, something like this keyboard or Keychron's Q1 MAX
Tactile switches would be preferable, but I can switch for other switches later if not possible
Keychron seems to be nice but maybe there's better options out there for cheaper
      Thanks for the help!

If you want a better pre-built TKL and don't mind the styling of the keycaps, the case color, or the linear switches, then the Cidoo v87 is a better option than this

I assume the keycaps are like the Womier XVX set that I have
