I’ve always hated the so called ‘magic underwear’ line which I believe was coined by comedian Bill Maher. We don’t believe in any magical powers in a piece of cloth. What we DO believe in, is that God will keep his word which He gave in the covenants we make in the Temple. And the garments are just a physical reminder to the wearer of those covenants. And ‘covenant’ doesn’t exactly equal ‘promise’, because it’s like a contract. Both parties are promising to do something: we’re promising to live a certain way, and God is promising to bless us for it if we do. Every commandment in scripture is like that. It comes with a promised blessing IF you follow the commandment. If you don’t, you have no promise.

Magic is not a proper description. That demeans the reverence of the garment. We do wear them as protection and I can fully attest to the fact that they do protect. But they are not “magic”! That’s a cheap word

"According to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temple garments can protect the wearer from evil and temptation when worn properly."
Of course Mormons don't outright say they're magical. But they believe they are nonetheless.

@choosetolivefree - Hello. I am a Latter-day Saint and I don't believe my temple garments are magical. No Latter-day Saint believes Magic is a source of power. It is Jesus Christ who performs miracles.

Let's try using the same statement you provided, but replace it with the cross: "According to mainline christians, the cross can protect the wearer from evil and temptation when worn.
Of course Christians outright say they're magical. But they believe it is nonetheless." Now, my reaction to that is that is offensive, but based on the same flawed argument you provided. There's a name for your thinking and words: religious Intolerance. Not to mention either ignorance (willful or otherwise) or intentional slander of what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints actually holds and teaches. But in either case...you're wrong.
