    Thanks again Andy! Received the chain alignment tool today, going to attempt to check chain tension & rear wheel alignment tomorrow. FYI - your CZcams name was mentioned on Facebook in one the Versys clubs ;-) Hopefully your subs numbers will go up soon.

    Spray chain lube should be sprayed on the inside run of the chain, why? Because that's where the contact points are, you can do the outside too so the external moving parts are lubricated but the main area is the inside run.

    • @MotoAndy
      @MotoAndy  Před 4 lety

      I did spray on the inside where x-rings are and just little bit of outside to prevent corosion

      I would also recommend against running the engine when lubing a chain. It can grab pull anything, loose clothing.

    Très bonne vidéo bien filmée. Pour le graissage de la chaine je crois que c’est mieux de le faire à l’intérieur 😉. Merci pour le partage et bonne continuation.

    I will like to ask you .... when you tighten the chain, you just adjust the left side, the right side I suppose it should be done in the same proportion too, am I right?

    I see you measured the chain slack with the bike on the centre stand. The manual for my new 2020 Versys 1000 says to do this “with the bike on the side stand”. It then goes on to say to rotate the back wheel to tighten the top run of the chain, which makes no sense if the bike is on the side stand. Can you explain?

    • @MotoAndy
      @MotoAndy  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Charles, that's quite an interesting topic. In fact, and in my manual it is written to check on the side stand, which does not make any sense to me due to the fact that after placing the motorcycle on the side stand, it is tilted to the left side, which significantly impedes / prevents good access to the lower part of the chain. I have no idea why it is written that way. I searched on the Internet and opinions are divided on this topic, some say to follow the manuals/instructions, others say on the central stand. I will try to measure on the side stand one day and compare the results.

      I have Versys 650, and when I am on service, service guy always tell me to sit on motorbike and than he check chain and if is loosen he adjust them. I ask why I need to sit on motorbike when manual say put motorbike on side stand and than adjust. He say ignore that in manual, that is wrong. You need to adjust chain for your weight, it is not same if rider have 60 kg or like me 105 + 15-20 kg of luggage or you have passenger and than motorbike is loaded with 180kg. They are official Kawasaki service since 1984 so they probably know what are they talking about adjusting chain. Once I adjust chain 30mm on side stand , when I sit on motorbike it was much tighter than it should be. So basicaly now i adjust 45-50mm on rear paddock stand chain, and when I sit on motorbike that it is about 35-40mm, and service guy say it is OK. Better a little looser chain, than tighter.

      @kannermw Před rokem

      Realize these are old posts but recommended OEM method should be used to check chain slack as it will measure less chain slack with some compression of rear suspension then on centerstand. The minimum slack in chain will occur when suspension is compressed to align centerline of countershaft, swing arm pivot and rear sprocket. Any position on either side of this up or down will have increased measure of slack in chain. It is imperative the worse case position still has some slack in chain or you will restrict supension travel and possibly damage your countershaft or axle bearings. Setting chain slack slightly loose is much better than too tight.
