1/12 scale 'Ultimate' Desert Racer from Feiyue. Brushless out runner motor, 35a ESC and a really nice RC Car. This shares a similar chassis to the WLtoys 12428, but i think it is built a lot better. I've not seen the new WLtoys 12428, but they may have improved the design slightly. - Zábava

YUP... 12428 and clones, too fast and too high a CG for their own good. they'll about roll over if you sneeze. do like my Virhuck V-01 I patterned after Steve's (ShenRC), softening suspension and tiny 10t pinion for a Traxxas (just got 108 mm tires for it, are as big as it'll take). SWAY BAR.. oh hey now. the 12428's etc with the taller pinion and drift tires... they do it REALLY well, definitely worth playing with!
if its same shocks as all the others, carefully slice the center tube from a couple round servo grommets (spare WPL stuff) to make your 4 oil seals for the stock shocks. automotive 30 wt for the rears and light grease in those little front ones does great.
for that truck/style, you might put 1/4" tubing on the rods inside the shock bodies, cut 1.5 turns off all 4 coil springs and re-flatten the new ends. it'll MAKE it sit lower and soften the preload to match. not as much travel but might help it not turtle so easy.
on the servo arm should be a 2nd hole a little nearer the center, moving the ball there is only a little less steering throw but less stress on wimpy stock servo is a good thing!

thanks! didn't even run my V-01 before I started modding, first thing was a good look at the shocks and "oh I know what to do here!".
the round neoprene/rubber servo grommets sliced makes perfect button seals with flat inner's to ride the shaft, install flat side up wet with grease and good finger snug tight to the threaded lower cups they hold up really nicely, not leaked YET! they're actually decent enough shocks, they just don't put seals in them.
Does anyone know where I can find sway bars for my Wltoys 12423? It roles over to easy.

Awesome man let me give you a word of advice I wish I realized when I first started getting into it, make sure you research the rc you’re looking at getting for like 2 days so that way you know if it has known problems and if you should avoid buying it, I’ve wasted money on rc cars that broke the first day and when I looked it up I found out it’s a common problem and I should’ve got an alternative. And remember you can always find a vehicle from a different brand that looks the exact same as the one you wanted maybe even for less money

@@TomleyRC This is the plan, and this is a chassis that I know wel, having a FY-03 for 3 years modified as a rock crawler, on which I greatly improved the shocks, springs tare and suspension travel. This rig is incredibly reliable if the right mods are done. ;)

The purpose for the outrunner is it is supposed to have more torque and less speed. Try doing some type of climbing with it and see how it performs.
I've tested this in the FY03 (same motor). I changed it for a standard 390 can brushless, much better

This reminds me a little of the HPI Mini Trophy - adding the rear sway bar was a great move, showing as it does that Feyiue are prepared to accept that their first go at this chassis could do with improvement.
I need to soften the suspension, and try it on a higher grip surface to really test it out 👍

I just love these cars, and this one looks awesome. The swaybars are a great addition. Love the full cage. I'd even consider making panels for the cage. Feiyue are definitely stepping up their game.
The 2845 4300kv would be perfect for it.
Yes, I will be putting a bigger motor in for sure. And probably go down a couple of teeth on the pinion
I think that the comparison between this and the 12428 is not fair for either of them.
The 12428 is a Desert racer, designed to drive fast and straight off-road. It's not able to take fast corners, even 1:1 Desert racers don't corner worth shit at any kind of speed.
I think it's more fun and more challenging with a two-wheel drive

This was 85% 2 handed Mark.... the transmitter is way too big for 1 hand. I just have to be a bit more picky with my camera angles. It's a nice truck!

My FY03H has taken probably the most abuse out of all my RCs.... very tough!
Nice looking truck for a low price, but i think i still prefer the UDR a bit more.

I got excited by the sway bar but I can't tell how big a difference it's making. A comparison on tarmac would be good. I find most stuff rolls easier on grass, especially if you slide into it coming from a loose surface, the suddenly grip is a death sentence even for well planted vehicles.
Another decent budget truck from China though. Love the look of it and the full cage. You could run it with no body and it would still look awesome.
I'm planning a slightly faster motor and gear it down a bit, oil shocks, and then will do a run on tarmac 👍
Feiyu keeps releasing these nice rc's and I keep buying them.I love my fy03h just don't like the plastic beadlock rims cuz they can't handle all the torque

Have you ever had a problem with the front drive shaft. I had a pin come out the first time I took it out, have you upgraded that part?

Now that's a nice looking truck Phil. Seems to have a good turn of speed and handles reasonably well as stock. I like the blue colour more than the orange and silver, and not being a fan of loads of decals too I think yours looks just right. Did you find the rear left mudflap after the run?
It is nice looking. I asked for the blue as like you I was not a fan of the other colours as much. The mudflap had just folded back on itself :)
This Feiyue Bastard cheap dirt , so durable, i have fy03 .
Love the solid rear axle and the body. Really good scale representation of a real Baja truck. Wonder what it does when you put a lipo in it. Saw a video of these shocks being upgraded to oil filled shocks with some o-rings and some Teflon tape. Should make it a pretty decent truck altogether.
Another thing, is the body clear where the lights stickers go? I see some proper light buckets so that would be great....
It will run a 2s no problem. I actually made a video of the difference with the FY03H. A little more top end, and a lot more 'grunt'. Yes, the body is clear behind the stickers 👍

I'm confused I just got the fy08 and for some reason the trigger gets reversed. Sometimes when turn it on the pull trigger it goes forward and then next time it goes reverse any ideas?
The switchable steering on the controller seems like a good idea but kind of pointless. I'm left handed but just like everyone else drive "right handed". Since nearly all transmitters are right hand only even left handers are used to driving that way.
Yes I agree, I'm left handed as well.... feels wrong holding it in your right hand and steering with you left.
The battery can easily be changed to a 2s Lipo to make it a lot faster
Love the look of that... Not a fan of the chassis and live axle design though... Looks to crawler fied and doesn't look as though it'll be able to take a great beating before some parts come. Off.
My FY03H has been to the skate park 3 times and beaten on ALOT... all I've broken is one of the plastic CVD joints. These are pretty tough 👍
only issue I've seen with these is a really high hard launch and stuffing into pavement nose first... THEN you're breaking front A-arms and chassis pan. nice thing is parts are available and reasonably priced too. kinda like a modern day 4WD Hornet, pretty easy to work on when you have to.

Question Tomley Rc. The first week. Truck was great. Never been bashed. Only around the house with my young Son. And today. Was the first day we placed it in kids mode. After switching back with a fresh battery after about 3 mins. Sounded like the gears was stripped. Took apart, couldn't find anything wrong with it. In my hands. Runs and sound fine. Place it on the ground barely moves. With a clanking or grinding sound. With no power hardly. Is the motor already burnt up. It's only 8 days old. Banggood is not wanting to help me at all. Because the box wasn't worth saving so I threw it away. Do I just need to replace the airplane motor and ESC. Or what. I was told to stick with Amazon. Which I am from now own. I just don't want to have wasted my money.

The chassis is the same as the FY03, so most upgrades will fit. As for wheels... 12mm hex, so find the right size and away you go!

Anyone got a link to some good quality oil filled shocks that fit this model? Looking for a straight swap no other modifications required at this stage
I glt this fy08 and when i put it in high speed mode when not fully charged it doesent work or its very on and off, do i need to get a new battery or did it happend to you to? Or mayby i just need to fully charge it?

Yes, it's an outrigger motor... a bit weird to mount one in a RC Car

This one mate...I’ve done a video with a cheap motor upgrade, it flys now on 3s. Just be aware there was a bad batch that came with crap li-ion batteries, mine seemed ok, but others had issues with the battery not working properly. Stick a Lipo in anyway, much better 👍🏻

It's the same radio as the FY03H which has a separate receiver, so not sure about the stock FY03

I literally got mine yesterday. Already have a problem with it. Maybe you can help. Runs flat out for about 5 seconds, stops and won't go although steering still works. Let it sit for a few seconds and it goes again and repeats problem. Battery is fully charged. ?????I have no idea what it is. Help
I’ve actually seen a couple of other videos that do the same. I think it may be a bad batch of battery’s? Mine was ok, although only done the one run with the stock battery. I’d get a small 2s Lipo for it, much better anyway, and you can charge it with the same charger that came with the truck if you don’t have your own.

Calling 1/12 is close but seems tp be more of abtrue 1/10 scale. I have the Thunder Tech Racing Pro 2 Short course truck that is true 1/10 and seems about same size as this. But much better quality than this. Either way seems like cool little truck
It's certainly not 1/10, may be not easy to see the size on the video. It's still good fun though. New video coming soon (new motor and bigger battery)
