QNAP TR-004 I bought a TR-004 QNAP last fall and with new drives?! but just 2 days ago can't be recognized or read [Unknown File System!?]? The only answer it gives after rebuilding the RAID (forwhat if un readable?) it unrecognized in Windows Explorer and even the QNAP External RAID manager. I trusted QNAP crap load of data GONE

My concern is this unit is too old 6 years or more ? Maybe they release a new model soon?

It’s still a good workhorse. I think until SSD memory becomes more affordable and stable. This is still gonna be this to go to.

perhaps a dumb question, but not clear if this TR-004 work independently of a NAS? curious if I can use it as a redundancy box via Thunderbolt/USBC. thanks!

It does work independently like a Nas. I use it as a Time Machine backup on my Mac.

Out of curiosity, what happens if someone (curious kid), flips switches on the back? Does the RAID re-initialize wiping all data? If that’s the case, seems risky to have the DIP switches exposed like that. Just a thought. Thanks for the video!

Great question. Yes, nothing will happen. The drives will not reformat themselves. It just picks up where it left off.

there is a SET button too, you need to press it to confirm it, it is printed on the instruction label on the top.

Why I want a software way? I prefer via hardware but the software have something to check the health of the drives, so how can run the software and the hardware setup at the same time?
