DAC really is going in on this track.
The raspy chorus almost ruins this tune...I know for a fact that the genesis is capable of much better sample playback than that, maybe the soundteam ran out of time to optimize this.

If you think about it, these are alien birds trying to sing. Sega tried hard to reinact that with samples.
Sure, the chorus is raspy but it's a Rhapsody. It's supposed to be raspy.
Well actually the reason for such poor sample quality is that Ristar uniquely has dual DAC sample playback but in order to accomplish this the samples used had to have their sample rates cut in half iirc. You can hear the dual sample playback clearly though as the drum strikes go off simultaneously with the chorus samples.
