  • My ramblings on the 20kw Olpla Diesel heater, this is a generic Chinese heater but certainly seems good quality for the price, I'll let you know how it lasts, thanks for watching 👍

    Not sure if i missed this but where does it exhaust? Your burning it in the middle of your workshop does it produce carbon monoxide?

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Před rokem +1

      Hi Phil, yes, it does make carbon monoxide, a by-product of burning fossil fuel,there is no exhaust with this type of space heater so you need ventilation which is fine in my place as there is a gap all around the roof as it is corrugated.
      Been using the heater this afternoon as it goes, it's really good and nice and small, I used to work on and hire out the larger version of these which are great but quite bulky

    I think i have a pretty much identical heater to this. Only issue i have is that it burns for 30 seconds or so and then goes out with a big puff of smoke and then once its running again it starts burning okay. Im thinking the kerosene im using might of soaked up abit of moisture over time causing it to not burn properly. Ive given the adjustment screw a turn with not much joy. Yours seems to burn constantly where as mine is more on and off and not a constant flame.

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Před rokem

      Hi Mark, there are loads of different heaters like this just with different names on them. From the symptoms you are saying it sounds like the filter from the tank to the burner is blocked, this lets past enough fuel to burn for a short time then it stops, normally quite smelly and more of an orange than a red flame.
      That's why I was saying it's imperative that everything as far as fuel goes is keep clean, check in the tank to see if its rusty as the rust particles block the filter

      Thanks for taking the time to reply pete. I only got the heater from a company called trotec yesterday. I will try some different fuel just incase. Great video by the way👍👍

      Hi Mark, sorry mate, didn't realise you've just got it, one of the first things I did with mine was make sure the tank was clean, just in case it was stored in a damp environment.
      What fuel are you running? , mine is on pump Diesel, Paraffin or Kerosene should burn a little hotter as they have a slight different burn rate.
      Since doing the video I've used around 15 liters of fuel and it's been fault less, hopefully, you get yours up and running ok, cheers mate 👍

      @Marks-Garage Před rokem

      Had a play about with the pump pressure. Adjustment screw is very easy to turn so has the potential to vibrate and move itself. Turned the pressure up and it ran perfectly and the fumes were alot more tolerable. Warmed up the garage very nicely

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Před rokem +1

      Hi Andrew, they use 100w so at current fixed rates it's 35p for 10 hours, the electric only powers the fan and diesel pump, the heat comes from the Diesel.
      They use 1.5 litres of Diesel an hour so around £2.80 in Diesel per hour, if you can get red diesel it's half the price, loads of heat.
      They have run out on ebay but there website has them, link is here,

    Hey Pete you looked a bit cold at the start there mate, I feel your pain🥶😆 I'm pleased you have finally got some heat for your shop Pete as the cold isn't good for you at your age👴I mean that in a nice way as I'm older than you😁🤣
    That looks like it puts out a decent bit of heat so as you say it will take the chill of the place before you start painting, I haven't seen one of those heaters working mate so are they a fairly clean heat or do they put a lot of carbon monoxide into the air?
    Before I got my fitted diesel heater I had one of those small 10KW propane space heaters which worked fine and got the place nice and warm but when covid hit and we had the lockdowns I couldn't get the 5Kg gas bottles anywhere plus they wouldn't take the empty bottle back so I could get my deposit back, the only problem with gas heaters is it gives out a very damp heat so I'm pleased I have the diesel heater now.
    It's party time for me Pete I finally done my last primer job this morning🥳it took a week to get them done but now I have to give my booth a deep clean, OH! the joys of painting😭😆 thanks mate👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Před rokem

      Hi John, I was really cold mate, it was -3 in there when I started and that was midday, i had to go in and warm my hands in between recordings🤣.
      The company I worked at ran gas and diesel space heaters so I know the Diesel ones aren't as clean a burn as the gas one's but they are miles cheaper to run.
      I have a gas one that's twice the output of this new heater, it runs off 1 or preferably 2 47kg bottles but as i have to pay full price for gas now it's really expensive.
      I'm really happy with this one as it's really small and works well, there a little smell on start up but after that it's pretty good, they are a dry heat compared to gas which give the same moisture out as it is in liquid in the bottles which isn't good for painting as you know.
      My place is really well vented so not worried about fumes, that's what makes it such a pain to heat but has its plus points as well, glad you've got you priming do, a clean of the booth and your away again 😀, cheers mate 👍

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 Před rokem +1

      Haha yeah you did look rather cold but you should be a lot better of with this heater. It's a shame in some ways that you can't put some insulation in there to keep some of the heat in but it would be a big job plus you will still need a bit of ventilation, maybe it would be better if you just blocked up some of the vents but keep a couple to keep it safe.
      Yeah gas is a crazy price now so I'm glad I've gone diesel, I get mine from the local petrol station in a 15L plastic jerry can, I'm not sure if there is a cheaper fuel to run these heaters, haven't bought paraffin for years so don't know if that's cheaper or even red diesel if that's legal🤔🤷‍♂
      I've removed both extractor fans and they are pretty bunged up with dust and overspray so will take some cleaning, the booth has been brushed blown out and hoovered to within an inch of it's life🙄😂👍

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Před rokem +1

      Red diesel is fine if you can get it, it's perfectly legal for home heating, we used to use that all the time in 205lt drums, trouble is finding it where you can buy small amounts, I ended up at the local fuel station, you can't use it in construction anymore as the rules changed in April.
      Yeah, the fans do get bunged up but do clean up ok, you'll be up and running in no time mate 👍

    2 videos in 1 weekend! Best take the week off 😆.
    But on a serious note, don't you get paranoid about the highly flamable fumes igniting? I know your not spraying while using it but the tins of chemicals are still stored in the same workshop.
    I got myself a 5 x 8 shed to house my compressor and a few chemicals and im paranoid about them igniting some how 😆 so I was going to section the back of the shed to make a storage/mixing room !
    Am I over thinking this and the chances of the chemicals /fumes igniting minimal?

    • @peteshobbies5383
      @peteshobbies5383  Před rokem +1

      Hi Terry, yeah, I'm on overtime mate getting those videos out 🤣 , I wasn't going to bother but there's very little about these on CZcams so thought it was a good idea, couldn't feel my hands most of the time but got there in the end 😀.
      I'm not really worried about these type of heaters in my environment which, as you say has loads of combustible materials about.
      I don't intend to use it after spraying at all but may do when the overspray has been expelled, that's when you really need to be careful because it's an open flame, I'll stick to the lamps afterwards most of the time.
      I come from the environment where we used to have a workshop and storage area that was full of stuff that can go up but never did.
      We used to put frozen gas bottles in front of heaters to warm them up so the gas would flow into other heaters, you need to be careful of course but it's not as critical as many think.
      I did move some stuff from top shelfs in the summer as the temperature according to my spot meter was 40c on the side of the tins which was a bit high, the floor was 25c so i put the stuff on the floor in the centre of the garage, with the cold weather the tins on the shelfs with the heater pointing towards them and about 3.5 mts away was only 8c so not a worry.
      You will need to be careful in a shed in the summer if it gets lots of sun as the temperature can shoot up, maybe better to put it outside in the shade on super hot days
