  • This is a Fairly Detailed removal of radiator from fifth generation Ford Explorer.
I could not find a video on here before i uploaded mine that breaks down how to get to or remove the radiator. I hope it helps someone out as i demonstrate how i did it.
You will have to remove the front bumper cover with grill to get to the bolts that take off the radiator holding brackets and to separate the cooler from the radiator.
This is my latest Explorer purchase which I'm planning on keeping, so there will be many more videos to come for the Fifth Generation.

I tried that first and still couldn't get mine out. I also ended up having to remove the front bumper and large plastic header to give more room to move everything around.

Great video. Although my explorer has the 2.0 4cyl Ecoboost, most everything you showed here was correct and helped me change out my radiator. Whats interesting is how yours was hit on the front driverside and broke the retainer on the passenger side just as mine.

So it would be wise to get the best radiator you can get if your going to do this job. Don't want to do it twice.

Good detailed removal of bumper. Wonder if it could have been removed without removing front bumper. Was looking to see if he was going to remove the whole thing in one piece with radiator, for access to the engine block. I have to replace a leaking water jacket plug, freeze plug right behind alternator.

Most likely water pump leaking. Weep hole drains down on alt and ac compressor . Water pump is internal .

My gosh that’s a lot of little clips, bolts, plugs and nuts to remember when and where to reassemble.

One thing i used to do when taking apart something with a lot of bolts, clips, etc, is make a cardboard template.
I would take a cardboard like an old amazon box from my recycle trash and draw a pattern on it of the part i'm working on. then i would push any bolts into the cardboard so that it shows me where it would go on the part. It works like a template that holds everything in position of installation.
hmmm maybe i should make a video of this tip..
