Gary Valenciano actually rearranged this song so that Morissette could sing it. He commented that it was his first time that he rearranged his own music for someone else to sing. Pretty awesome and such a honor.

Prior to pandemic she really wanted to sing worship song. And thanks also to Gary V. for letting Mori sang this song in the new arrangement. Kudos to Dave Lamar who directed this. This is so impressive.... You can tell Morissette is singing here right from her heart. Please take a look at a young vocalist from Canada: Jadyn Rylee. Maybe you can start with her cover from "Head above water" she did a few years ago, when she was about 13 years of age (now she is 15 and every time she impresses me...). I am sure you are diving more into her repertoire after hearing it.

The story behind the song, “Could you be Messiah?,” written by Direk Freddie Santos
Gary V’s award-winning stage director and friend Direk Freddie Santos loves the Lord and often finds himself talking to Him whenever, wherever. He was at a bar lounge taking a break from a comedy act rehearsal. It was about 2 p.m. when he felt he needed to write down words that have been running in his mind for a time.
He felt strongly about it as if God was telling him to make a song out of it. The problem, he wasn’t a composer. In about 17 minutes, Direk Freddie penned Gary’s most endearing inspirational song that would move the hearts of many to know Jesus. Direk Freddie was in awe writing the lyrics of “Could you be Messiah,” as if he was transcribing divine revelation. Without hesitation, Direk Freddie called Gary out of nowhere and asked if he would consider writing music to the lyrics he just wrote; Gary said yes. When Direk Freddie arrived at Gary’s house, the first thing that Gary said was that he was really busy.
Direk Freddie showed Gary the lyrics - he said nothing. Immediately, Gary sat at the piano and tried a few chords or whatever melody he can make out of the few minutes he can spare. Then the mood changed all of a sudden. Gary looked at Direk Freddie and said, “Let’s go upstairs” (Gary’s studio is the attic). They went up around 5 p.m. and didn’t come down until 5 a.m. Gary was glued to his keyboards the whole time and finished putting melody to the lyrics.
From time to time, Gary pricked his fingertips so he could measure his sugar level. He has diabetes. But because the words moved his soul, Gary gave it all. The same fingers pounded the keyboards seconds after. His fingers hurt, but he couldn’t stop. Gary looked at Direk Freddie and said, “Let’s go upstairs” (Gary’s studio is the attic). They went up around 5 p.m. and didn’t come down until 5 a.m. Gary was glued to his keyboards the whole time and finished putting melody to the lyrics.

Could you be Messiah is a beautiful piece recorded in 1991 that is still played and sung all over. It takes talent and vocal dexterity to interpret the song. Gary Valenciano sings it raw in August 2020.

Hi Sorry! if l made a few mistake here and there. I'm not a perfection person. Anyway, I just a deliver message guy from Messiah to delivered out those words, which was not written by me. I always pay respect on Mr. Freddy and Mr. Gary V, create such wonderful lyrics and song to reach out everyone's heart. Especially, now we all facing a lots of uncertainty during pandemic, disease attacking, financial economics crisis, natural disaster etc.. One's of the reactor coach did said, Music is a universal language. God's select his believer, to create such emotional MV has his purpose. This MV must be share to everyone in this planet and purity our mind and soul.
Wow...everyone should know how this song was written and arranged by the multi-talented and a good Christian, Mr. Gary Valenciano. He rearranged this gospel song for another talented artist Morisette Amon. I am really glad to know the behind the scenes for producing this amazing song. Absolutely awesome!👏😘♥️

"Veteran theater and live concert director Freddie Santos wrote the song, “Could You Be Messiah,” for the ‘80s stage musical First Name, whose original music was the work of the likes of OPM luminaries Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, Ray-Ann Fuentes, Butch Alvarez, and Bob Serrano. The song is addressed to God or to an instrument of God and now, as Freddie has gone on, it seems to have been written to tell the story of his role in the life of many of our musical artists and pop culture idols."

This song was composed (lyrics) in 1988 for a play called FIRST NAME, by F Santos (Fred Santos passed on late 2020), and Gary V. composed the music (arranged/orchestrated). Gary would usually include this song in his concert repertoire since early 90s. So many ppl have been inspired, moved by this song.
Loved this song and performance. The lyrics are powerful and definitely hit the heart strings. Love seeing her do some worship songs. She truly can fit in many genres.
