In this video I look at Tzvetan Todorov's structuralist theory of narratology, in which he outlines the 5 narrates states: equilibrium, disruption, recognition of disruption, repair, and new equilibrium.
I use Jurassic Park and Toy Story as two examples of completely different films that both adhere to this theory.
This is a media language theory usually found in any media studies, film studies, culture studies or creative media qualification
Thank you so much for this video! I wanted to do a paper on the movie Parasite, but I was struggling to find theories to structure my paper on and your explanations really help me to get started
Fantastic explanation! I've gone through 10 videos looking for this info. You've explained it so succinctly. Love the chart. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are super helpful
Really helpful, thank you! Lawrence J. Kurnarski's 'The Story of the Story' is a great companion to this.

Amazing presentation, I always love to watch your videos.
I learn more from you than my course books.
very informative, a video of Vladmir Propp's theory would be appreciated.
The fact you can say "without being eaten by dinosaurs" with such a straight face amazes me.
thank you sir for this video. helped my homework a lot
You are most welcome
How about Propp's structural theory of tales? Would you consider doing a video on this subject?
Yes, please. That would be awesome.
Good job
Great video sir
And..., a question: cannot be the five stages nested? Or it is supposed to appear in an atomic sequence?
This channel deserves a million subscribers
Couldn't agree more
Yes
Could this also be seen as a form of indirect Intertextuality. Although the movies are referencing one another. They are contracted through the same narrative structure? Good videos btw
Sir, can this theory be applied to advertisements
If they telling a story then I don't see why not.
Please describe narrative structure by using common syntactic concepts that todorov describe in his Theory
Very epic! Thank you!
Cheers, Sam! My latest video is way more epic
Thank you.
Please keep doing more videos on Media Studies A level
I'm making them as often as I can, which really isn't as often as I'd like!

Great sir ❤
Thanks!
Narrative is how a story is told. Interesting. I typically just say it is a story. Beginning, Middle, End (3 acts structure). Equilibrium. Disruption (change). Recognition. Repair. New Equilibrium.
Linear. Chronological.
680th like. Thanks for helping me with my media homework.

most producers only care about box office. directors/scriptwriters are the ones with the 'ideals'. Love the video and channel otherwise
