Peter, I am really curious to know your thoughts about mandating mask wearing for children in schools. I am connecting what we know about the significance of facial expression and vocalizations to establish connectivity with others and soothe our nervous system as mammals. Do you think that face masks will disable this and create additional distress and anxiety because we can not interpret the cues of others? Simultaneously, I believe we are also creating duress in our own bodies by restricting our ability to breathe and oxygenate our vital organs, placing people in a prolonged state of fight or flight while trying to carry out their functions at school, work, etc. What do you recommend for policy makers as they consider mandating masks as a return to school plan?

Hi Kimberly. Fascinating question. The best way to reach Dr. Levine is through his website: traumahealing.org/.

The trauma healing community has remained silent on this question - I have asked and asked.
