      @@FernandoRodriguez-ds5ri that is fine as far as preference but the design of the window screen is made to face out and pull tabs are on the inside to pull in from the inside of the window. When you get a new window from the factory that’s the way it comes but there is no wrong way that’s just how it is designed. 🫡

    Hello Joshua, thank you for your great content. Have you ever had the spline shrink in the spline channnel after you cut it? I’ve tried 2 different brands of spline and they both have shrunk about 1 inch at both ends. Do you have any tips to resolve this? - Clarissa

    • @JoshuaTheWindowCleaner
      @JoshuaTheWindowCleaner  Před rokem

      Yes I have seen this before. You need to use bigger spline for the channel. What’s happening is your stretching it when you put it in the channel and as time goes by it goes back to its normal size because there is too much room in the spline channel. Try going up .10 maybe even .20 in size see if that helps. Keep me posted. Also weather can play a factor as well if your in a cold environment try doing it in a warmer environment. If that doesn’t fix it let me know what size your using and maybe I can send some your way we have plenty of spline and it wouldn’t cost much to ship it to you. The quality of our spline is top notch.

      @@JoshuaTheWindowCleaner Thank you for your response. From your videos, I’ve learned how to rescreen. When doing my own windows, I had no issues (after I got the hang of it) and the results were amazing. There is one business in town and one that is 15 miles away that rescreens. Both are hardware stores and from my experience they seem to not pay too much attention to detail (screen grid not aligned with frame, ripples in mesh, etc). Based on this, I saw an opportunity to provide quality workmanship to those in my area. I’ve started a rescreening business, which I’ve registered with my state and local municipality. This is my first client, and it’s a 21-3/4”x 24-7/8” removable window from an old Larson storm door. The client tried rescreening it herself using .125 spline and had the same issue with shrinkage. I have tried .125, .14 and .16 spline. The .16 spline was very difficult to roll into the channel and I snagged the screen several times attempting to insert it. Also, by the time I finally completed one side and turned the corner, even the .16 had shrunken in the channel. The channel itself is measuring 1/8 inch and I’m using the Phifer BetterVue screen mesh, which recommends .14 to .175 size spline. Having been stumped, I reluctantly took it to the local hardware store, which also used .14 spline. However, where they were satisfied with ripply mesh and a spline gap, chalking it up to “a thing that happens,” I know that I can do better. Regarding the weather, I’m in West Virginia and it’s been in the low to mid 30’s, but I’m working inside my heated basement. Are there special considerations for 4 season climates? Once the immediate shrinkage issue is solved, will changes in the weather cause more expansion/contraction of the spline? Another idea I had was to use a thicker mesh, but the client wants to maximize the light penetrance and visibility. Thankfully, my first client is a good friend. But she is very well connected in my town and I want to do a great job and get referrals.
