      1998 gx model here ..still going strong. Apart from oil seals and suspension bushings replacements, other normal maintenance works no issues...just need to be aware of the lower ball joint play. I drove it thudding and cheerping for over a year until it popped out. Thought it was my front struts.

    Nicely done mods to date. I like it's clean look. It's rare these days to see a 4WD being used for overlanding without any bar work. It looks good. And looks like you got a great bargain. Very lucky you bought it before the COVID Tax took hold of the 2nd-hand market. With your current set-up, how do you use your hi-lift jack with your current OEM front and rear bar (or even the side sills)? AFAIK, Prado OEM bumpers do not have any jack lift points. Do you use an additional attachment(s)?

On your video you mention you've used 105series standard front coil spring. does this fits to the Prado? and if so can you still use the standard shock ? that can save me money if I will upgrade the suspension in case am gonna buy one. Does 80 series front coil spring the same as the 105 series.

  • @larry5894
    @larry5894 Před 3 lety +2

    Looks great and covers almost everything on a low budget. The only things I would add as an essential for me would be a cheap epirb/plb and a larger GPS/mapping unit. A PLB is something you can take with you whatever you're doing in the bush (kayaking, mountain-biking, 4wding whatever). A cheap android tablet with the right software might be enough for GPS mapping. You can get cheap tablets via auction sites like graysonline etc.
    Thinking further with a 4wd there might be situations where you need outside help but your life is not in danger and it doesnt justify triggering the plb.
    So maybe a satellite communicator might be the go to give you some flexibility with communication if you end up needing a tow-out for example or you are ok but running late etc.

    Petrol is definitely the way to go in my opinion. Having owned a diesel i know all too well how expensive it is to repair. Just about every diesel engine has a 'common problem' and it's not brand specific. zd30 grenade, 1kd (kracking diesel) cracking pistons, 1gd dpf issues, 4jj1 crankshaft snapping, td42 overheating, 4d56 overheating too, 1vd engine dusting. yd25 timing chain problems, all older diesels with injector pumps cost 3k+ for parts alone when they seemingly wear out at around 300k. Modern common rail diesel would not be far behind for cost . The only issues you ever hear with petrol engines is 'they chew the fuel'. modern diesels are so choked up by emision requirements that seem all too common to fail.

      Check the lower ball joint time to time. It doesn't suddenly fail. Clunk on braking, squeeking on turning, steering vague and not centering after turning are the tell signs of failing lower ball joints.
      I have suffered two ball joint failures on the go. Both aftermarket stuff within a year. Oem the way to go but if you can't then the japan made sankei 3806 non greasable ones with inner plastic/teflon linning is the way to go. I have had it for two years still solid witth no play.

    This channel had so much potential at one time but too many false starts, inconsistent content, a creator who seldom interacts w fans, huge delays in new vids and no true adventure. • @FreedomInMindtv
      @FreedomInMindtv  Před 3 lety +13

      As much as I don’t like what you’re saying, I actually agree with most of it. Unfortunately during the course of running this channel my life has had many challenges which have put me in the position of having to step back and put my focus elsewhere to keep my life moving forward. I haven’t always had as much time or attention spare as I would have liked to spend on the channel. Every time there was a delay or false start it was a reflection of what was happening outside the channel in my life. The reality is that the channel has unfortunately had to come second to the challenges in my personal life. I’d love to have a flourishing CZcams channel and I do put in a lot of effort when I can. Though even as I sit here and type this I have a broken foot, so adventures are on hold again for a few weeks while it heals. I do have a couple of trips filmed already that I will upload in that time. Thanks for the honest feedback and support over the years and sorry to the subscribers who feel this way but also a big thank you to all that have stuck around! Tom.
