I am with you, completely. Odunze doesn't have the quickness (speed is different) to separate and you can't teach that either. Bowers is going to be the next Travis Kelce, maybe better. He is built the way a modern TE should be. Odunze looks to me like a guy who just switched from being a basketball recruit a few years back. Great ball tracking and hands, but not top 10. He will be another Jerry Jeudy.
I think Odunze could be a good player because he's elite at the things you can't teach and some of his weaknesses can be worked on. I don't think burst off the line is something that can really change and if so - only marginally; but I do believe he can improve his route running and with his renowned work ethic and high character, I'm certain he will. If I were him and was drafted by the Jets, the moment I got to Florham Park I'd be asking Rodgers for Davante Adams' contact info to be able to learn from him - particularly on how he changes up the tempo of his releases to create separation. I honestly don't know if I'd prefer Bowers or Odunze but I don't necessarily think we'd be disappointed over who we pick in a couple of years. I think they'll both develop into good if not great players.
It's not necessarily fair that Bowers would have to overcome the Kyle Brady mistake of our past when we let Warren Sapp pass us by. Even though I think he's going to be as good as Christian McCaffrey. However Bowers doesn't change the need of getting one of the three best available receivers Harrison Jr, Aiyuk, or Justin Jefferson. Because those are the guys that make Wilson, Williams and Lazard better. Odunze and Nabers are just as good as what we already have however I don't think they fit well considering how bad we needed separation last year to help Zach Wilson make a decision in 2 seconds or less to be effective.
I agree wholeheartedly. I LOVE watching big bodied wideouts who succeed in the NFL; Brandon Marshall was the most fun I’ve had watching a Jet WR. BUT I think they are the hardest to truly evaluate because that skill doesn’t always translate to the NFL. Yes, you can bully college DBs and safeties in the air for the football, but can you do it against guys like Surtain, Stingley, etc? If it does translate, then they can find success, but if not, then they’re massive busts. Odunze has fun to watch circus catches but that’s about it, every other aspect of receiving he seems average or subpar. Especially worrying is his tendency to get bullied off the line or beaten to his spot in press; he’s far too big a body for that to be happening to him. I think Bowers is the safer pick for sure. Yeah, he may not have that freakish contested catch ability, but he’s a great route runner, has great tracking and ability to catch outside his frame, can make people miss in a phone booth, and is tough enough to get hard yards as well. He may not have the size to be the greatest blocker, but even on the plays you showed in his eval, he has the motor to never take a play off and keep his feet moving. With Odunze it often looks like he’s just jogging or giving 70% effort until the ball is thrown his way a lot of the time
I Like Brian Thomas Jr. More than Rome Odunze. I think he gets better separation, he's faster, and his ceiling is higher than Odunze. I would love the Jets to trade back a few spots , pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd and then draft Brian Thomas Jr. His father was drafted by the Jets, so let's keep it in the family and draft this kid
Bowers is definitely a better talent But when breaking down the reality of the situation if we NEED to pick between the 2 and they both meet pre draft expectations, it needs to be Odunze. Reasoning? Cap hit for a top WR when resigning will ALWAYS BE HIGHER than a top notch TE.
If you struggle with separation in college you have no chance of separation in the pros. If you rely on contested catches against student athletes you will struggle against the best athletes in the pros ie cornerbacks. Stay away.
Would you prefer Rome Odunze or Brock Bowers at #10?

Probably Bowers but I wouldn’t be mad at either, two game changers
NEITHER
Bowers > Odunze
When I listen to someone with an English accent, I assume they are bright and know what they are talking about.
Excellent job with breakdown.

BOWERS, Johnny Wilson, Xavier Legette, Brian Robinson, Troy Vincent, Malik Washington, Malachi Corley.
glad you're back luke, but i'm afraid the jets are going to remain in football inferno as long as aaaron rogers is around
If he’s there they will take him!
Odunze at 10? If available no question at all. You run up to the podium.

I didn’t like Brian Thomas film at all. One tricky pony who I think lacked separation too, especially on intermediate routes
Did someone say Brock Bowers!?!!? 🤯🤯🤯
🤌🏼🤌🏼
Rome had definitely grown on me, but I still think I prefer Bowers personally
Bowers is definitely a better talent

Odunze is an Alpha, he will be like Keenan Allen
I don’t see that route running like some people do

This has been my primary concern
oh, and no way odunze lasts past the bears
Jalen Coker or David White jr late better option do what odunze do but way better route runners
