On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

@@brianwright9514I’m not 100% sure but I think the missile initially goes for the primary heat source (engine) then switches to the secondary heat source (cockpit) at the last second.

If the F-16s ever make it out to Poland for Ukrainian pilots to pilot them (the F-16s will never make it off the Polish tarmacs to be used against Russia) the Russians will make short order of them and use there-16 as target practice in a real life shooting gallery) just as the Russians did to Ukraines spring offensive which only lasted 48 hours as Russia took out every Abram's, M1 and other hardware or damaged the others to render them unusable and lost no hardware themselves. This will happen to the F-16s the same way

DCS flankers are a bit over exaggerated in terms of performance. They actually have less AoA than a Super Hornet.

Those 9x’s really just stopped even trying after a while. They’ve come off the rail closer and with less lead many times. That being said, Toxic is a bomb ass flanker pilot.

In DCS the missiles track the 0,0 position of the plane, which is the pilot position on those modules. It is what it is…
Honestly, the F-16 didn't seem to struggle in this fight hardly at all. It was the AIM-9X that decided to take the day off.

I don't know. I find strange that in 7 rounds you could only be able to fire an AIM9x once. It usually is not nearly so reluctant to give tone... I think something was happening in your plane.
It's a software simulation. It will behave the same every time. Toxic is just a skilled pilot who makes very few mistakes, so he knows he has to be "collision close" until the F-16 gets too slow to keep up in maneuverability.
@@andersjjensen nothing of what you say is unknown, and it still doesn't explain why the 9xs seemed like behaving in a weird way. You may be really close in the wez and even the plane won't let you fire, and yet they are giving tone.

Definitely should do a Su35 vs. the Hornet with high off bore sight Fox 2s. The fight would drastically become more of an even fight.

It is not always the plane, it is the pilot skill that wins, and this SU-35 pilot is doing it drunken style.
When ever I see it's Toxic or Pane flying I always know the fight is going to be close. No matter who is flying what. Serious skills all round.
Is no one gonna mention in the second fight, the Flanker successfully did a Kovechur Bell and used it correctly, landed a high off bore sight missile, and RECOVERED all at maybe a few hundred metres while extremely slow?

I still doubt this will ever happen. I think they will get gradually destroyed by airstrikes while on the ground. They will not get used on the frontline but to launch air to ground missiles.

the 9x is just terribly simulated in dcs is pretty much all we've learned, we know the 9x can get locks and kills from even its maximum angle off boresight
TOXIC is an incredible pilot and I love seeing when GS faces him, you see some really crazy stuff from him and he's probably the best match I've seen for GS. So not only is the Su-35 just better at dogfighting, it doesn't help that the pilot is also incredibly skilled. Had it been a less experience pilot I am sure GS would be winning.

In that second match, he just stood on the tail and waited for you to overshoot... Since the F-16 must maintain forward flight, you have no choice but to keep flying and moving forward.

@@peposad2588 the problem is that gs didn't slew his missiles to his helmet directly, thus he was able to fire only when radar lock is achieved which is unnecessary

Russia said they'll greet the F16's with some modernized Mig-31's, I think that's a more likely scenario than SU-35
Since the MiG-31 isn't a dogfighter, it'll have to go for the BVR shot. So in a way they're sort of admitting they fear the F-16 enough not to want to get close to it.

@@itsdokko2990 : Yeah, a MiG-31 would not want to be within 25k of an F-16 under any circumstances. It needs to be disengaging at Mach 2+ at that point.

Modern dogfights are very rare . Whether it be an su35 or mig 31 . The bvr outcome will depend on pilot skills
This fight would have been way different if you were to have used the 9x in bore sight mode instead of slaving it to the radar.

i think we need a beyond visual range fight. Sukhoi behind front lines semi-protected by sams, lobbing missiles/glide bombs at ground targets, Vipers sent to intercept

Are those Archers not overperforming a bit compared to the 9X? Time and time again Soviet/Russian electronics is what seems to underperform the most in combat. I have a feeling the actual combat capability might be more in favor of the 9X?

Not sure if this would help at all, but if you hold the enable switch down it will slew the seeker to the HMD instead of the radar track.
Seems like the radar track was behind the Flanker most of the time which could be why you weren't acquiring lock

I know nothing of aerodynamics, but the idea that a super agile small fighter such as an F16 can be outmanoeuvred by a hulking great SU35 is a mystery.

Well quite simple, unlike the F-16, if the flanker wants its nose pointed in a direction, the flanker will go in that direction. In exchange of loosing speed

you should do a fight with 1 Fox-1/Fox-3 and 1 Fox-2. so you get a BVR chance, an IR chance, and then you go to guns

The maneuverability of that flanker is insane.
I feel like the modern dogfight would never happen starting 8k feet off the ground. More likely to happen between opponents who are flying under radar and terrain masking to flank enemy formations or stuff like that
I get that it's more fun to have some altitude when simulating a fight, but it would be interesting to see how different the fight would be when starting a few hundred feet off the ground. I think the crazy instantaneous turn rates on birds like Flankers and Hornets would matter less as they wouldn't be able to drop the nose to pull hard

Never not had a 9X not get tone before, I never use the radar to slave the middle though, always slabe it to my hmd
BTW, tacview on this episode would be great to be able to see all the manuevers the Sukhoi pulled off to get on your six and to get his missiles on the envelope.

Ya f16 is a little jet. Probably means survivability is kind of low. The flanker is in contrast a massive jet.
