- I've been out of action with a knackered knee for the last few weeks so I was itching to test out a new piece of kit I have on loan from Hikmicro. Finding wildlife can be a real challenge sometimes and so after Hikmicro loaned me one of their fantastic Lynx 2.0 Monoculars it was time to hit the woods to see what I could find. Join me for what turned out to be one of the most magical wildlife experiences I've ever had when I stumbled across a huge family of Red Foxes.

Whilst cleaning my camera gear and sorting my memory cards, this was the perfect video to watch. Hang on 5 fox cubs, now 6. Just wait a flipping moment am I seeing 7 fox cubs.. This was just the most uplifting piece of footage I've seen for a very long time. You not only inspire others, you also bring so much joy. Well done matey. And then near the end you counted even more...
Thanks Simon, very kind words. Glad i was able to capture the experience and bring it to the viewers. ATB, Si 👀🦊📷
What an absolute privilege to watch and film/photograph that family of beautiful foxes mate. Inspirational to watch 🤩
Cheers Dan, it was certainly a red letter day. You get them now and again!! Thanks for watching👊🏼👀
@@simoneardley my pleasure mate 👍🏻
Great to see you getting back into your wildlife routine Simon. Looks like your new location is going to become your own personal heaven, but Lancashire still misses you mate. Superb video as always.
Thanks David, lots more exploring to do and i'll be bringing everyone along for the ride. Cheers pal 👊🏼👍🏼
Definitely two different litters.
That heat sensor is a useful bit of kit but at over a thousand pounds its kind of a pricey way to hone one's observational skills.
I fear that successful wildlife photography is slowly becoming the realm of the wealthy.
Lovely session with those cubs. That is a beautiful old Welsh oak woodland. So typical of how most of the valleys in Wales used to be before the march of industrialisation.
Great images.
Take care of those knees, once they are shot, life becomes a lot different....... I know ☹️
Best wishes.
Cheers Robert, when you compare it to the price of modern mirrorless gear I dont think its too bad but I get where you're coming from. Youre right, beautiful woodlands around here 👌🏼🌳🌳
Fantastic as always! It's worth the wait between videos for 45 minutes of quality work like this 👍🏻
Very kind, thanks 🎥
I really enjoyed the footage of the fox cubs. Glad you came out to finally do some photography.
Great video as always Simon. I took a look on the thermal scope website and as you mentioned...hunting. A story about how to get into foxing and it wasn't photography. How anyone can kill such a beautiful creature is sickening. I live in the countryside and seeing one is a rare treat.
Yeh, its awful to think about it. It was certainly a red letter day to see them all so close up!!🦊🦊👀📷
Morning Simon mate that is a brilliant video it's a great place ware you are now loads of wildlife. looking forward to seeing the next one mate
Thanks John, lots more to come mate 👀📷
What a fantastic experience.
It was Keith 👍🏼
I’ve been looking at thermal monoculars as have wanted to get one for a while & this is by far the best video on that subject I’ve come across & you’ve sold me!
As you said you wouldn’t have been able to scout that spot without the thermal monocular & it just outlined their importance as being in the kit bag for any wildlife photographer.
I really like the look of the Hikmicro Lynx LH25 2.0 & am hoping you include it going forward in future videos.
The images were fantastic but again that was down to being in the right place which was again down to the monocular.
You made a great point in as much that to date thermal monoculars have been trained on the shooting & hunting markets but hopefully after watching your video will steer them into the wildlife market.
I heard a nice saying; Wildlife photography is like hunting, you must have the same instincts as a hunter, but without the desire to kill.
It’s the hunt of angels, you trail, you track, you aim, then you fire, but instead of killing that animal a photographer makes it everlasting.
Very true Mark, another good one, " Leave only footprints, only take photographs!" Theyre not an essential piece of kit but as you saw they can give you that one special moment that can lead to some once in a lifetime images that make the expenditure so worthwhile. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. 👍🏼👀
Beautiful shots ❤ I just love your dedication and it really pays off when you get the awesome pictures of the beautiful wildlife! Nature is so amazing and beautiful ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing! I always look forward to your videos! ATB! Rob.
Thanks Rob, you get the results when you put the time and effort in mate. ATB, Si
Amazing stuff Simon. As you say it's just being there that for many of us is the joy of wildlife photography..you may forget taking the images but you never forget the experience
Thanks Nigel, very true. The photos are just a massive bonus!!👌🏼📷
Morning Simon, can I just say I thoroughly enjoyed what I believe to be one of the best ones you’ve done to date !!! And I make you absolutely spot on when it comes to to finding your own subjects and how to approach and how important the right concealment is to achieving your goal, is without doubt the difference between success and failure. But even more important than the results is that your subject whatever that may be is either completely unaware of your presence, thus behaving in a completely natural manner or even if they are aware of your presence you don’t represent danger or a threat as in you don’t represent the human form.
You’re a man after my own heart in your approach and your passion for doing it your way and the right way.
All the best
Paul x
Thanks Paul, its got to be right up there mate when it comes to the subjects welfare. If I can get in, get the shots and away with no disturbance then its a massive bonus!! Thanks for taking the time to watch. 👊🏼👀
FANTASTIC! been watching your vlogs since you started. You were good then, but now! Your video's are professional wildlife documentaries. I've not got the ability or the confidence to do a CZcams video. And the work involved and keep finding different content to film must be so time consuming. The comment you made about finding your own wildlife, is so true. My best photos have been of wildlife I've found myself. I also love doing the field work to find it. And the thermal monocular. I'm going to buy one👍. Keep up the great work Simon, I look forward to the episodes. Hope the knee heals up well 👍
Aah thanks Michael, very kind words. It is a lot of work but I love doing the films and great when you get nice comments on them. Have a go mate, nothing to lose. You might be a natural. Everyones got to start somewhere. ATB, Si👊🏼
Thanks for sharing this with us, it was amazing :-)
You are so right about Cam & Concealment and your movements to get into position, also being aware of the wind is bang on :-)
From a veteran Royal Marine, this video is exactly what draws me to wildlife photography.
Sometimes it's not the photo but finding and tracking and waiting for that moment, hoofing thanks again :-)
Nice one Tom, its a necessary skill when photographing truly wild animals 👊🏼👀🦊
Lovely mate! Took me a while to get around to it as I've been away up North and it's a long one, lol... What can I say my friend, pretty dam good. Top work and a great bit of kit for sure, this fieldcraft is becoming easier these days, lol... We had them back in the day when I was in the Navy and there were as big as a portable TV, lol... Good bit of kit and worth the money, looks like amazing quality. Nice one, see you in the next one. Rich 👊
Started watching this at 0800 and finished it at 1600. In between load car and drive home from Cumbria to Norfolk. All day wondering what the outcome would be. You smashed it Simon. Field craft is the key and you are spot on with the cammo. Ive had Red Deer nearly trample on me because concealment was so good. No photos though because he was too close. Ive a thermal monocular and I agree with your assessment and comments. The countryside is big and these animals are small and widely distributed. Dusk is a good time to have a mooch around. Good work.
Cheers Nigel, I had one of the cubs so close I couldnt focus. Amazing experience 👌🏼🦊 Good concealment always pays off.
Unbelievable, mate! What a fantastic experience. No doubt about it, thermal scopes are a game changer for wildlife watching. I was there at the NEC when you were at the Hikmicro stand! 😁 Great advice re concealment and a top tip about footwear. Hope the knee’s feeling a bit better. Take care and can’t wait for the next vid 👍🏻
Cheers pal, its just small things that can make a big difference. Footwear can be one of them. Thanks for watching Steve👀👊🏼
What a returning film and photos after your rest. Abso;lutely stunning footage of the fox family, with photos to dream about. Well done Simon you are always informative and down to earth. By the way, did you forget the fig biscuits? Thank you for your enthusiasm and inspiration.
Cheers Ian and thanks for following the channel, the figs dont always make it out!!🤣📷
Wow!! what a superb video Simon. Awesome footage and images , an absolute treat to see. I'm really liking that thermal imager too, I might have to take a big hammer to my piggy bank. Take care mate. C U soon. 👍
Cheers John, take a sledgey to it!!!!🤣🤣 "You cant take it with you mate". My missus loves that saying 🤣 All the best, Si 👊🏼
I just bought an Infaray P2 pro $250 USD. It hooks to your phone. I bought it in hopes that it will make finding owls easier. I can't wait to try it out in the field. The test I did in the back yard impressed me. Excellent work, I can't imagine the grin on your face while that was going on in front of you.
Cheers John, good luck with the new gadget!! Yeh, I didn't know where to look!!🦊🦊👀
Hands down the best fox cub footage I’ve ever seen 👏👏👏🥇….the effort you put in… with concealment and field craft and other things is next level…it just goes to show effort = success…well deserved… also the story you tell ..how you approached it is outstanding
Yep, its great when it all comes together. Thanks for watching 👍🏼👀🦊
I really enjoyed this one, Simon. Absolutely fantastic and truly justified your comments about being prepared to put the effort in and wait patiently.
Thanks Gary 👍🏼
Great footage really enjoyed this long video Simon credit to you 👌👏👏
Thanks for sticking with it Paul!!🤣🤣👍🏼
I was at the NEC photography show, and I did look at the binoculars and the type which your using. I may invest shortly
Yeh the binoculars look smart, I'm hopefully testing some soon 👀🤞🏼
Another brilliant video Simon. I was only pestering my wife about a thermal imaging monocular last week so perfect timing 👍 I just wish they weren't so darn expensive (around $2000 🇨🇦 here). Lots of owls in the area I like to photograph but alas I struggle to find them, thermal monocular would be a game changer for me. Have a great week 👍
Thanks Tony, they are a really handy tool for spotting subjects. Once youve tried one you'll not go back!!👀👀
Excellent ‘ noticed the difference straight away with two off them cubs “
Much more developed. I think that’s two litter in one large earth. That thermal is a game changer . Really enjoyed that Simon
Thanks Glyn, yeh definitely two litters using the same earth🦊🦊
Video Was far too short! lol, This footage was outstanding if every way, & 9 was the icing on the cake, Thanks for taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it, i'll do a feature film next time!!🤣🤣🎥
Absolutely amazing footage Simon and stunning Photography! Top drawer this stuff. Definitely agree with the camo gear giving you the edge, I once had a badger come within 3 feet of me and stood on its hind legs sniffing the air ..I held my breath that long I nearly passed out. Once again brilliant work and a speedy recovery with the knee. Here's to the next one 🦊
Cheers Chris, its ace when you get an experience like that isnt it 👌🏼👀🦊
W☆W Simon AMAZING!!! What a great piece of kit!! AND AMAZING IMAGES AND FOOTAGE!! It's the owner typing here 😂 not the Dog!!! 😂
Cheers Blake 🤣🤣🦊
If I could give this a thousand thumbs up I would.. absolutely fantastic.. I would be skipping home.. great vlog Simon and awesome images of them cubs.. think I will watch this again.
Cheers Darren, if I wasnt on me bike I would have skipped!!🤣🕺🏼
Cracking footage and a real privilege to both be part of and be a viewer
Thanks Steve 👀
Fantastic film & incredible footage Simon, hope that your knee recovers quickly & hope it didn't happen on the bank in your garden if it sadly did it's time for a path to go in I would say
No mate, did it at work!! Paths going in soon anyway 👍🏼
Another crackin video, Simon, you looked well chuffed with yourself at the end of the video and so you should, all of the pictures at the end were smashing my favourite being the portrait one of the cub with its front feet on the tree stump. I like it that much. I would even consider buying a print from you if you sold them. Thanks again, and I hope the knee gets better soon. All the best Lee
Thanks Lee, on the mend mate. I'll be setting up a print supply very soon so i'll let people know on the channel when its up and running.
Wow, what an amazing encounter and footage, well done mate...👊😊👏👏
Thanks Keith, not found any Pine Martens yet though !!👍🏼🤣🤣
Another absolute belter of an experience....well worth waiting for this video.
Thank you Simon, delivered again 👌
Thankyou Andrew 👍🏼
What a fab experience Simon beautiful footage 👍 totally agree about using the camo it’s been essential for me for those close encounters as well. That thermal monocular is a huge advantage I will have to save up for one of those. Keep it up mate 👍 Ant
Cheers Ant, we'd never get those experiences without good concealment and fieldcraft 👀
That is such a privilege, nature as intended ❤️ that mum certainly has her work cut but looks to be doing magnificent. Superb video 👏👏
Cheers Stephen 👍🏼
What a complete joy to watch, thank you 👍📷🦊. Glad you are up and about and knee is recovering.
Glad you enjoyed it Sue 👍🏼
Brilliant little film mate you are a very lucky man to have all this wildlife and hopefully much more .top quality ❤
Cheers pal, i wish I had your number of permissions!!!!🤣🤣
Wow amazing video of the cubs..look forward to your next video👍
Thanks Stuart 🦊🦊👍🏼
Simon you really make some fantastic videos, when I’m feeling down and fed up you seriously cheer me up and get me back on track. Keep up the good work you make a real difference to the world and the community 😊
Thanks Ian, very kind words. All the best,Si 👍🏼👊🏼
Simon , you hit the jackpot. Absolutely, Positively, Magnificent. I love it. In Korea, they are called Yosu. !! Richard Hutchings, Florida.
Thanks Richard, cant beat a Red Yosu🦊🦊🦊😃👊🏼
Just watched your video Simon, absolutely amazing you’ve done a fantastic job Capturing them all on film, and some really nice shots, wonderful to see them all thriving, what a fantastic sight that must have been, top work 👏👏👏😍😍😍
Thanks Paul, it was a memorable experience 👀👊🏼
nice one Simon got meself a fox yesterday too but no cubs though, great piece of video mate, look forward to the next one.
Nice one, any fox is a bonus. Theyre tricky subjects🦊🦊
Wow Simon wow what a game changer that scope is and some absolutely stunning images and footage .Thank you

Good bit of kit. Absolutely brilliant film, fantastic. Thank you. Beautiful images. All the best. 👍📷😎
Cheers Rob👊🏼
Awsome Simon couldn't believe how many cubs I was seeing I've not seen that many before ,great bit of kit was looking at similar ones a while back I would have to get one without the wife seeing it 😂 great footage ,well done 📸👍
One of the best videos I’ve seen , some amazing footage . Thanks so much for sharing Simon 👏👏👏
Very kind, thanks Stephen 🦊👍🏼
Super video -- well done sir👍👍👍👍 Agreed, some of those kits look significantly older than the rest, probably a blended litter where the female has somehow adopted another female's kits -- or two females used the same den and share maternal duties, although that's unlikely.
Thanks Woody, yeh thats what I was thinking too 👍🏼🦊
Hi Simon, excellent video with a great lesson on fieldcraft and concealment . Those shots you got of the cubs were amazing, a big thumbs up for them. I always use the mask and jacket and have had deer so close it amazing, they see something but don't know what it is so come closer, also hares. Keep the videos coming, its great also to see the excitement and enjoyment you get from making them.
Appreciate those comments Ray. Fieldcraft and concealment is a great aspect of wildlife photography and a real challenge sometimes. 👍🏼🦊👀
That is one superb video. Thanks. Those foxes are beautiful. Privilege to see them.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼👍🏼
I've never seen such a passel of fox sibs and cousins. Cuteness overload. Thanks for the product review, Simon, and thanks for taking us along on your photo walk. I enjoyed it immensely.
Great werent they Clifton. Glad you enjoyed the film. 🦊🎥
That was a right good film, Simon. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed that whilst eating my breakfast.
Thanks for watching Martin 🦊👍🏼👀
Glad your knee is better. What an amazing experiance. Thanks you 👍

Wow just fantastic 👌👌
Cheers Carlos👍🏼
Great to see you out and about again Simon, hope the knee is improving. Amazing experience with the fox cubs, thanks so much for sharing it. Look forward to the next video. 👍
Cheers Phil, getting there mate. These hills around are a real test for it!!🤣 Thanks for watching👊🏼👀
Hi Simon, another excellent video and your method and approach is spot on. I've got the FQ50 which I use just like you and it works a treat! Keep up the good work!
Nice one Mike, hope you like it as much as I do!! Its permanently out with me now all the time.👌🏼
Outstanding!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Outstanding shots of those cubs!!!!!!
Thanks Mark
Well done Simon👍
Cheers John
Cracking video well worth the time to watch. Great footage, helpful facts and a great presenter. Next job - buy Buck wheat husks
Cheers pal, husks are the future!!👌🏼
Wow that was fantastic those cube looked in excellent condition as did the vixen must be plenty of food for them.
Yeh theyre all in good nick. Lots of pheasants round here!!👍🏼
Thats so good Simon, that looked like the most wonderful evening.
Cheers Mark, it was one to remember !!📷🦊
Nice 1 si,wonderful footage and stills, our county has plenty more to give, like a wildlife oasis😊
Cheers Nye, looking forward to seeing plenty more of it. Not enough hours in the day mate🤣
Amazing ! Looks like 2 litters. We had a vixen who took in a litter with her own when their mom disappeared.
This is the best video you've done. Absolutely brilliant to watch mate! Cracking 🔥💯
Cheers Pete and thanks for watching 👀👊🏼
Fantastic. Loved watching the cubs playing together n feeding with the Vixen. Absolutely mint. Loved it n totally agree about the satisfaction of finding your own subjects. Great bit of kit too.
Atb Rick n Billydog
Thanks Rick, I was so lucky to see the vixens interaction. Right place, right time . ATB, Si👍🏼🦊
Love the video. Now I know it's worth a purchase. 👍
I think so Aaron 👍🏼👀
Fantastic video thanks for sharing Simon 👍🏼
Thanks Mick 👍
Absolutely brilliant video have you treated your self to one yet brilliant piece of kit how much 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, not yet mate. Still got this on test. Theyre between £1050 and £1200
Amazing well done, I can't remember where I saw it FB ,News, or spring watch but I think they said the most they had ever seen was 7 cubs, Do you have a record 9 in the bag? Possibly .always look forward to your brilliant, down to earth vlogs. Best wildlife entertainment on YT. Thanks.
Thankyou very much. Looking back at the footage and hearing from other people it would seem more likely that there was 2 litters in the same earth. Possibly adopted by one vixen. Hard to say without some lengthy observation.
Wow!!!! Absolutely beautiful footage & images. Just amazing 🥰
Thanks Clare 👊🏼
Great fieldcraft as always, fantastic footage and images recording a special experience, well done.
Thanks Barry, great that I could share it with you 👍🏼🦊
Possibly my favourite video out of all yours Simon. But they are all fantastic. I love Foxes, how anyone can hunt these beautiful little things is beyond my comprehension. Thanks for your time, I’ll watch this again and again.
I know Frank it beggers belief really. Hopefully these will grow to full maturity and thrive . Fingers crossed👍🏼
excellent video and what a great piece of kit to have in your arsenal !! Some fantastic footage of the very misunderstood Fox as so man misconceptions the have been vilified in children's stories for decades !
Thanks Pat, very true they get a seriously hard time. How anyone can hurt them is beyond me 🦊
Absolutely fantastic! Well done Simon, you remind me of me as I use very similar techniques! I would say that there were two litters there, perhaps a surrogate mother because something has happened to the other mother as foxes have 3-5 cubs? All the best.
Yeh, my thoughts too Richard. Cheers for watching
One of your best videos, excellent footage and stills - respect!
Many thanks Peter 🦊👍🏼
One of the best videos you’ve ever done on the channel. I’m definitely saving up to get myself one of those thermal imaging monoculars. It’s going to give you a massive advantage.🙂👍🏻
Cheers Chris, you wont be disappointed 👍🏼
Wow! What a fantastic video and set of photos Simon, well worth putting the effort and long hours in, really great video this one 👏
Many thanks Chris 😃
Best film ever simon. Fantastic.
Thanks Gary 👊🏼
Hi Simon, great video and I totally agree with you regarding camo and wind direction. However, the best tip I would say is staying still and if needing to move, is doing it really slow so not to spook them.
Without a doubt, theres a lot of elements that go towards not being spotted!!👀👀 ATB, Si 👍🏼
Thank you Simon, A wonderful 45 mins of footage and down to earth advice. what more could anybody ask.
No probs Roger, glad you enjoyed it 👊🏼
wow that was so nice to watch and thats some kit thanks for sharing loved it
Cheers Dave 😃👌🏼
Just magical my friend! I will be purchasing one of those...cracking video and narrative..5 stars!!!
Thankyou very much and cheers for watching
Brilliant footage Simon. You just keep on inspiring.
Many thanks sean 👍🏼👊🏼
Absolutely stunning Si
Cheers Si 🦊👊🏼
Fantastic footage, and great info about what you pack and how you approach, another enjoyable watch, I’ve got a thermal they are very impressive but tempted to upgrade the colour seems to help mine just shows white heat.
Thankyou, yes my favourite is the Fusion setting which shows subjects really well. Nice to have the 4 options. 👀👍🏼
Absolutely fantastic ,just a joy to watch 😀 Thanks Simon👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it Dave
Fantastic work and footage, Simon 👏👏👍
Cheers Phil 👍🏼
Great video again Simon.
Thanks Alan
so amazing & a really lovely watch 💞🦊 thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it Sophie 😃
Great work, lovely images
Thank you so much Tony
Lovely footage ❤
Thanks for visiting Michele 👍🏼
Living the dream Simon. Absolutely amazing. 9 Unbelievable. I had to look up the price straight away. Around £1000 depending where you look. Cheap if it gets you shots like this. Great to see you back doing your thing mate. Are you going to buy one. Hope the knee is better soon. All the best. Steve.
Yeh i think its a worthwhile investment depending on the type of photography you do Stevie. I will no doubt invest soon, once youve had use of one its hard not to have one in the bag!!🤣👍🏼
Fabulous and thoroughly absorbing video.
Glad you enjoyed it Rik 👍🏼
Absolutely wonderful foxy footage!! Made my day to see that! Thank you!
My pleasure!🦊🎥
