- After the massive success of the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Trilogy Sony were looking to take the character in a different and worst direction. Kicking things off with The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012 it saw Andrew Garfield take on the role on the duel roles of Peter Parker and Spider-Man in an retelling of his origin with a bit of Batman Begins thrown in for good measure. All things considered this movie ended up doing and being okay but it's sequel sunk the franchise leaving them crawling back to Marvel and the MCU for help. The worst part about TASM 1 is there was a bunch of deleted scenes which really improved the film, including a few that better developed Conners/Lizard as a villain, like him giving his condolences to Peter after Ben's Death and transforming back in the school so Peter has to save him from Police by bringing him into the sewers, compared to the finished film where Peter just follows him down into the sewer
Doesn't he also just leave the computer running that conveniently explains Lizards whole plan?
In a Spider-Man film where he is so dumb he has to pretend his father's work is his own, and he needs to steal web fluid, no deleted scenes would save it.
That makes his guilt over captain stacy make a hell of a lot more sense

7:59 this bit was almost great. Peter blindly catching a football and then casually launching it down the field while kissing Gwen is a really fun idea for a scene, except then someone was like “what if the ball dents the goalpost” and that just ruins it. It’s too much, adds nothing that wasn’t already there, and breaks suspension of disbelief

Ever since Tom Holland started pretending that he's the tiny Iron Man in Iron Man 2, I've been Pretending that little boy Spiderman at the end of TASM2 is the little boy Tony Stark of this Universe.

18:00 I remember back when this video first came out I saw this and thought "wouldn't it be great if we got the spot in an actual spiderman movie?" I'm happy about how that thought has aged.
I think they did a really awesome prediction? Unless maybe the trailers for Across The Spiderverse were out at that point and people knew the Spot was in it

The love story between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy was one of the few good things about this movies. Maybe the second costume and some swinging sequences as well, but that’s about it!
I know she is older for the role, but i'd love to see her as an alternate universe Spider-Gwen. She's a Great Actor and I'd like to see her and Andrew's character reconnect on the screen.
Andrew Garfield was great, the action was fun (especially in 2), the music was great, and I personally loved the overall vibe of the first one
I find it interesting that people enjoy their romance so much. I personally think it’s the weakest part of both movies. Uninteresting. Googoo gaga kissy face talk. I think it takes up space unnecessarily. I think it drags the story to a crawl. And i don’t enjoy their on screen chemistry it’s always given me the ick.
Also you just can’t do Gwen Stacey anymore. No one’s invested in a character they’re waiting to watch brutally die to further the protagonists arc.
In retrospect, in my one attempt to watch the movie I think I turned it off precisely after the "your father believed that power was great, but doing great things for others is more great, and if you're great enough to have power that's great, but it's you're moral responsibility to be grateful for your great power and use it responsibly!" part.

I think these movies would have been better off keeping a loose continuity with the Raimi films. Change the visual style, swap out the actors, and introduce new villains but don't re-do anything those movies did. Ya'know like how they do in the comic books.
My favorite part (other than the electric chemistry between the leads) was the scene where Spider-Man makes an actual web trigger matrix in the sewers. Ya know, like a real spider would do. Great

The chemistry between Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield and the romance between their characters is well done and I was actually invested in their relationship. And Gwen's passing did bring tears. Its a very flawed movie. But I enjoyed it for what it was. Not the best, nor good but the actors did great.
They did date in real life
Well I absolutely loathed TASM2 when I saw it in theaters. It did teach me what bad editing was so I am grateful to it for that.
For all it's sins, Andrewiderman 2: Electro Boogaloo still has, for my money, the best looking classic(ish) spidey suit.
Maybe slightly bested by the one recently. Yeah you know the one, at the end of the thing? Yeah you know

Knowing how much Andrew Garfield genuinely cared and knew about Peter and what his origin symbolized, it's so hard to watch the deleted scene with Richard Parker returning. Like, good God, the pain is real in his face. He is driving a truck into a wall and knows it, but still gives it his all. His rage and denial is palpable though.
Toward the end of Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro (blue) tries to harvest electricity from a power plant, this is in reference to Blue Harvest which was the working Title for the Original Star Wars

Andrew Garfield, of the three live action, was the best “in the suit” Spider-Man, his quipping and jokes were perfect for the character

One really funny part of this series was that they decided to continue having gwen stacy be blonde but played by an actress well known for red hair.
And in the Raimi trilogy, have a redheaded character (MJ) played by someone who is usually blonde on screen.
Fun fact; Most people would agree that Pete realizing that he could have stopped the guy who killed Uncle Ben is a pretty big part of the big 'power-responsibility' bit. In the tie in video game for the second movie, one of the first missions you do is tracking the guy who killed Uncle Ben, and it's heavily implied that Peter wants to kill him when he finds him. Of course, the guy runs into an alley and is then killed by Cletus Cassidy. This version of Spidey didn't get a way to reach that conclusion in almost any version of the character and I find it, personally, to be one of the biggest reasons why I don't love this interpretation.
The games are a different continuity from the movies

He obviously does realize he could've stopped that guy: How else would he know exactly what the guy looked like?
(Did you seriously think it was just a coincidence that he was looking for a guy who looked exactly like the man he was looking RIGHT AT in the convinence store?)
Are you one of those people that have to have really obvious plot points pointed out to them?
Not to mention: Uncle Ben getting shot happens almost immediately after Peter let's him go. It's not really a mystery of who shot him the way it is in the Raimi movies.
@@N313GrayFox right bud, but the point of my grievance is to illustrate that he NEEDS to figure out that he could have stopped him for the Great Power/Great Responsibility thing to have real weight. If he doesn't, and just goes his whole career wanting to kill that guy, it undermines the character.
Sympathy for Andrew's performance for spidey is not the same as sympathy for this series. The whole point is that he should've got a better shot at playing spidey BECAUSE these movies aren't good.
The most interesting thing about these movies is that the directors surname was Webb.
In their coked up haze the executives just wrote Web on the whiteboard so many times with extra letters they just assumed they'd already hired him.

Here's an idea for your Caravan of Garbage-es - I just rewatched the Die Hard commentary and it occured to me that I don't think I've ever seen you guys focus on actors, just on franchises or movie themes. I'd love to see a Schwartzenegger series (e.g. Conan, Commando, Terminator, True Lies, etc...), or a Stallone series (Rocky, Rambo, Demolition Man, etc)... or a Van Damme series (e.g. Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, etc), or even folks like Corey Feldman (e.g. Stand By Me, The Lost boys, Goonies, etc.) I think there's some longevity in a focus on an actor's career.

Andrew Garfield is so good he Almost* singlehandedly saves this series, and I think he might honestly put the first one into the positive for me
Fun fact, Kevin Feige had a meeting with the producer, Amy Pascal, to improve the script and have Spiderman be integrated into the MCU. Pascal, I guess not liking the idea of sharing, chucked a sandwich at his face.
This reportedly made Kevin Feige very sad, or blue you could say, resulting in the working title for this movie to be called Blue Harvest which was also the working title for the original star wars movie.

Sony Vaio was a monster in the early to mid 2000's in the States, considering the sea of light beige boxes back then. Also, their laptop line was sleek and years ahead in their form factor.
Whats also cool is the logo represents the change from an analogue waveform to binary 1s and 0s, well thought out design
What's funny is they say we hope No way home doesn't have funeral scene near the ending (it was done before 2021) but it HAS 😂

When I watched TASM and heard the Lizard’s plan, I was like this is so dumb. Also, it’s the Lizard’s plan in the first 20 minute episode of Spider-Man TAS.

Something that I rarely hear people talk about is the music for these two movies. The intro of TASM 2 to me still the best Spiderman theme that perfectly encapsulates the hope and optimism that you can only find with Spiderman.

i haven't watched this movie since it came out, but the thing that i remember thinking when i first watched it was that the lizard was essentially right-- iirc, he explains that turning everyone into a lizard will make them smarter, stronger, faster, and regenerative. the only real downside is that they're ugly scaly people. they're like weirdly berzerked towards all non-lizard-people, but his plan is to turn everyone into a lizard anyway
The lizard in the original comic was flat face. Was like a green thimble on shoulders. So they actually made this comic accurate. But I agree, I like snouty 90s cartoon lizard.

Andrew's performance in the 2nd one when Gwen dies is amazing, and even more amazing when he is in No Way Home and talks about the after effects.
I like these movies overall. They needed editing bad, but there is 2 1/2 good movies in there somewhere. My favorite part was bring in Spiderman's snark which was left out of the original trilogy. Maybe Gwen's death could have been directly related to Spiderman wasting time cracking jokes and showing off, so the final scene he shows up and just downs the Rhino in seconds and walks away without saying anything. Third movie second story line could be meeting Mary Jane and her helping him get back to a place where he is happy.

I do always appreciate the suit design from the first one, the second probably makes more sense for the character but I’d definitely prefer what they did with eyes, texture, material and overall design. Fits perfectly for the direction they went with the film but as a Spider-Man suit I suppose it’s further from the original character design than most other first Spider-Man suits
