Fun fact... The High Valyrian spoken in this series is the "true" pronunciation. George has mentioned that since Danerys was raised in Essos, she and her brother spoke it with a Tyroshi accent.
Why Tyroshi if they were raised in Pentos by Illyrio?
Danerys always thought she was better at languages than she really was.
@@Alejojojo6 in the books Dany and Visery weren't always in Pentos, they first lived in Bravoos but had to leave and then wandered the free cities Myr, Tyrosh, Qohor, Volantis, and Lys until they eventually met Illyrio in Pentos.
There is also a passge in the book where Dany speaks to the wineseller and he recognizes her accent as tyroshi. She probably developed the accent during her time in tyrosh when she was young
@@Alejojojo6 They weren't raised by Illyrio... he was just the most recent to host them. Since going into exile as children they have moved all over Essos in the care of several loyalists trying to stay a step ahead of those searching for them for King Robert.
@@Alejojojo6 they lived all throughout Essos they were originally raised by ser Willem darry until Daenerys was about 5 when he died
I laughed so hard when I remembered Daenerys didn't have a saddle on Drogon. She was just holding on to dear life 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
naw she was RAW she held on fine.. aemond tho?
Well, riding bareback is more badass anyway
@@stepheneastern7661 also impossible
@@myaiyanaa2208 I mean, I guess a child holding on to a dragon for his dear life would be obvious
“The idea that we control the dragons - is an illusion” - the way this impacts this show and the connection of riders to their dragons is intense. Just like Drogo left Dany for a while, a dragon is not a slave
Zaldrīzes buzdari iksos daor.
Say that to Daemon Targaryen
Oh man 😂
@@hereiam8 he’ll lose his sht immediately 😂
@@LS13. He would actually probably agree because he was respects dragons too much.
they are after all the Valiyran(?) Gods
You remember Beric Dondarrion, Sofie. The one in the Brotherhood Without Banners who kept getting killed, then brought back to life.
The eye patch guy who held the walkers back so Arya could get out of the crypts
He of the voice that could melt butter. 😊
I feel like there were several references/hints through out the GOT that Beric was a Jesus-like character. One of my favorites.
"It's like The Hand feels he doesn't have control over the King while Daemon is near, and that's why he wants to send him away."
HOLY SHIT, it's crazy how easily you picked that up
Over the centuries, House Targaryen has produced both great men and monsters. Prince Daemon was both. In his day there was not a man so admired, so beloved, and so reviled in all Westeros. He was made of light and darkness in equal parts. To some he was a hero, to others the blackest of villains.
"Zaldrīzes buzdari iksos daor."
(A dragon is not a slave.)
~Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Roynar, and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, Kaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, The Mother of Dragons, the Unburnt, Breaker of Chains.
"The idea that we control the dragons is an illusion. They are a power men should never have trifled with."
~Viserys Targaryen, titles, titles, titles...
I think your take on Daemon is on point.
All the dragons in this show are quite unique, even in the sound of their roars. Especially Daemon's dragon, Caraxes, aka The Bloodwyrm. Caraxes is mutated, being longer and more snake-like than others. His roar is more of a high-pithed screech than a roar.
The Breaker of Chains soundtrack playing in the background when Viserys was talking about the prophecy is so symbolic. and the fact that the whole scene was grrm's call makes it even more powerful, a spit on those incompetent writers
Right? I’m not sure if I’ve been interpreting it right, but I’ve interpreted it that in the books Dany will have the throne by the time they have to fight the others.
@@Nathan-yw4yj yeah, she'll prob have the throne before the white walker invasion, quaithe said to Dany that "to go north you must journey south and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadows". the iron throne is not really a good thing for Dany other than to stablish or to be able to unite some realms to fight against winter.
@@NihilanthI believe you’re right that Daenerys’ will win the throne but at the cost of the burning of King’s Landing. I think Jon Connington will burn the city but Dany claiming the throne will be bittersweet. To your point, I think the prophecy, “To touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow,” I believe the true story & Daenerys’ story will end in the north fighting the Long Night. She will die saving humanity, but redeeming herself for the slaughter at KL.
@@Fallen616 exactly
"That night she dreamt that she was Rhaegar, riding to the Trident. but she was mounted on a dragon, not a horse. When she saw the Usuper’s rebel host across the river they were armored all in ice, but she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew, and turned the Trident into a torrent. Some small part of her knew that she was dreaming, but another part exulted. This is how it was meant to be." ASOS, Daenerys III
dany's final destination is to fight the others and prob die. although I do believe she might survive the battle and learn the truth about the house with the red door and that it is in Dorne. she'll prob return there to live the life she always wanted.
"I would give up my crown if he [Daario] asked it of me, Dany thought … but he had not asked it, and never would." ADWD, Daenerys
"I was tired, Jorah. I was weary of war. I wanted to rest, to laugh, to plant trees and see them grow. I am only a young girl." ADWD - Daenerys X
Anyone who thinks Dany is meant to be the heroine protagonist of the entire story is going to be sorely mistaken. She will be brutal near the end of the story, only when GRRM writes it, it will make sense, unlike the hopeless mess that was GoT seasons 5-8.
16:00 "Please don't show me"... i think hearing the screams is worse than if they had showed us the scene... for me, this scene is one of the most shocking scene i had ever seen in movies or shows...
House of the Dragon will clean your mind from the end of GOT lol
Agreed. Didn’t think this show would take out the bad taste the last season left
To me it didn't. Not even remotely. #bEsTsEaSoNeVaH #NotMyDaenerys
@@Nicamon I don’t blame u. That ending had me salty for months
@@DanielGonzalez-xu1hi Try"years"in my case!>;-(((
@@NicamonDon't go outside or anything? It's a little unhealthy to be mad about a fictional show for years.
You've heard of Dondarian because the guy that came back from the dead in GoT was Beric Dondarian.
I wasn't expecting this so soon... Thank you so much for this reaction 😄
This first season is really great, I think you'll enjoy it a lot.
Can't wait for the next episodes 😭😭😭
You havent read the books?
About the Catspaw dagger in Viserys' hands. In GOT (the book), it was Joffrey who took the dagger from the treasury to play with. And he paid the assassin with the dagger.
So the dagger was in the treasury for a long time. We'll see how it got there, from Viserys I.
Aegon's dream about a Targaryen uniting the realm against the cold in the North is more on the books side of the story rather than plainly on Game of Thrones show. It's a little detail George added on House of the Dragon.
wasn’t this dream from one of his sister actually? one of them was a dreamer
@@kafkateee no your thinking of denys the dreamer and she dreamed of the doom of valyrea not the long night .
Milly Alcock (Rhaenyra) was phenomenal in pretty good australian series Upright (it is comedy road movie). I recommend everyone to check it.
I watched it after HoTD because of how great milly was as rhaenyra
I second this. It's one of my favourite shows from recent years (and Milly is awesome there as well)
The more you'll go on, the more you'll love (or hate) these characters
That tree was there in Game of Thrones as well. It's where Sansa said she goes so people wouldn't talk to her after saying she doesn't pray anymore.
I mean, I suppose. But those are two very different looking sets.
I'm so glad you're watching this series! It's so good. I think you're going to love this. Daemon is my favorite character. He's completely unpredictable. Enjoyed your reaction to this!

It's finally here!! HOTD is so good! Amazing reaction, your thoughts are always incredibly insightful and a pleasure to listen to.
"A heir for a day"
One of many interpretations is that Daemon was actually being respectful.
It may sound weird but so is the title "Queen who never was" which is used respectfully towards Rhaenys.
Just a little theory based on the show and also books.
The queen who never was isn’t respectful, not at all. They say this normally at her back, but i think they just made that scene to show her. But i agree that the heir for a day was a way of daemon to greave
@@0cidd0 Could be if it means : 'she is a queen... even though she never was officially' ...also insinuating that compared to her Viserys doesn't have what it takes to be king ...the shade....that's why Otto said you should punish him
@@0cidd0 I think the epithet must have been respectful, since Rhaenys' own cousin, Lord Borros Baratheon, uses it; he would hardly insult his cousin that way.
@@gailf1617 it was remember, that the hand told to the king that he could have his tongue for that. But the king just said let it be
A return to form for our adventures in Westeros. The acting, cinematography, the music, the tone, the pacing, it's all perfect! I was very happy with the first season.
I love the way you compared some aspects of the episode such as Rhaenyra's dress to be Byzantine, the accessories really did seem to have some inspirations. The way you pay attention with the details are cool as well as seeing some real life counterparts of the things in the show, clever.
I think the entire story of the Dance of the Dragons is inspired by an actual conflict that happened in the Byzantine Empire.
Just like the War of the Roses was the inspiration for the conflict between Lannisters and Starks in GOT.
Every time Viserys tells the prophecy to his daughter Rhaenyra, Daenerys' theme plays in the background.
She was the true queen ❤
And the show opens in honor to her
Targaryen's theme not Daenerys.
@@thomaschaumeil3878nope, breaker of chains plays, daenerys’ main theme !
@@thomaschaumeil3878 I mean, Dany was the only Targaryen in the og show, and the theme played whenever she had a big scene, but also the theme "Breaker of Chains" which is Dany's personal theme, which played during the prophecy revelation.
13:10 yes you've seen Berric Dondarion in GoT he was the leader of the brotherhood without banners. That guy who kept coming back to life after some prayers by Thoros of Myr.
The weirwoods were all over Westeros, a lot were cut down when the First men or the Andals invaded (except those important places like castles here) The only reason why they're not cut down in the North is because they still worship the old Gods.
This one in the Red Keep has been cut down by the time Game of Thrones starts (which is why ou see Sansa praying on some kind of tree stump in season 3, fun facts✨)
Welcome to HotD !!
Prophecies are what we make of them. Aegon probably had a dream about the long night, and because he was arrogant (I mean, he was a Targaryen), he assumed he or his descendant would be the savior. But the prophecy of the long night was known in the north, in Asshaï... So maybe it was just his interpretation that a Targaryen HAD to be ruling Westeros in order to achieve victory
That's my take on it anyway ^^
no, actually the prophecy is about the Targaryens themselves, it was the writers who fucked up that ending
i think it checks out that targaryens are gonna think theyre the big saviors. especially when one considers that the first long night was pushed back without targaryens. it just seems like they centered themselves, only WE can unite the 7 kingdoms and then they did it by force.
Given the prophecy was an addition by George Martin im hoping it's more of a clue as to where the books are going - not the show we already saw. He's already said he's moving further away from that ending.
@@WLDB I’m at the point where I doubt we’re ever getting book ending lol
Viserys was the last Targaryen to ride Balerion the Dread before it passed.
Btw just to clarify he could either try and save the child and lose the wife or lose the child and the wife. They couldn’t save the wife and the Maestor clearly clarified this.
Just wish to clarify I’d you didn’t notice.
Exactly! I think many people don't notice that it wasn't a choice of "wife or child" but rather "either both die, or we try to save the child"
Three-eyed raven to Baelish: "This dagger, did you know who it belonged to?"
Yes, Daemon's dragon Ceraxes is very cool, he has long deformed neck, natural mutation, and looks more of wyrm than a dragon, thus the nickname Blood Wyrm.
He makes very distinct sound, it one scene later, you know he's coming because he makes this kind of screech, also it doesn't really roar because of the neck. Really cool looking dragon, with the same character as Daemon.
Viserys's wife is his cousin, Aemma Arryn.
You absolutely NAILED Daemon. No notes 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
On Rhaenyra’s coronation outfit, my fave detail is that her neckpiece has the sigils of all the major Houses of Westoros on it
Fun fact Daemon is George’s favorite character (and mine if I take away Aegon the conquer) he’s known as being both loved and hated because he’s a very grey character, neither good nor evil.
He has done a lot of good things for the common people too like reduced crime and forming the gold cloaks which gave good results.
Favourite Targaryen. Tyrion is his favourite character.
nor good or bad hahahaha, then drug traders, terrorists, killers, rapers, and all of the rest are neither good nor bad, just grey characters haha. You blacks are crazy. everyone is good to their families you fool but this one omg. This Daemond, she'll know. The most hateful character for me but a great villain.
@@keenyiraada Well I’m just paraphrasing from how George has described him and I ofc agree with George.
Byzantine styles: oh this comes up a lot in Season 1 - in the behind the scenes videos they directly state that “first century” Targaryen styles looked Byzantine ( both costumes and architecture) - from Aegon to the start of Viserys’s reign. During the long peace under Viserys it shifted to a new “decadent” style, but old official stuff from the previous generation looks Byzantine
House of the Dragon rocks!
I always appreciate your analysis and insights. So happy you began this series!
You will be even more impressed in the future, Sofie) HOTD is an amazing show) I personally love Daemon for the bastard that he is, Matt Smith does a really good job portraying him.
Couldn’t agree more. A lovable menace. Also the show is so damn good.
Daemon targeryan is the favourite character of George r Martin ... The rouge prince according to the author is the equal mix of light and darkness... There are some who hates him and there are many more who loves him extremely...
One thing that's certain about daemon is that he loves his brother and rahnerya to death.. and he was one of the best warrior in that era...and also in targeryan dynasty ..
Daemon is the "ROGUE" Prince, not "ROUGE" Prince. 'Rouge' is the French word for 'red'; also a woman's facial cosmetic.
The kings wife is an Arryn and his cousin, her mother was targeryon and her father was an Arryn
you're my favourite reactor! you're smart but still emotional and engaged
I’ve been watching so many reactions to this show but your sheer excitement at the intro and the dragon in the opening scene actually brought a couple tears to my eyes lmao I feel like such a dork, thanks.
One thing I like from the lore is that it was Alicent Hightower who read to old King Jahaerys when he was on his deathbed. She already has a reputation for being gentle and a caretaker.
Excited to watch you react to this show, you're so insightful and observant, and the show is full of details and complexities to dig into.
If Petyr Baelish is called Little Finger, then the Hand in HOTD should be called middle-finger.
Doing the rounds revisiting reactions to HoTD in preparation for season 2, and yours are some of the best!!! Emotional and Insightful and intelligent.
The visceral excitement you had at the end was MEEE!
You’re gonna LOVE this show. I was skeptical, but very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this show. Here we go! ❤
LOVING your commentary. You pick up on so many details and nuances other reactors do not. Cannot wait for more!
I was waiting for your reaction, you are incredible and the analysis you do is very detailed.
What Viserys told Rhanyera was passed from ever Targaryen king to his heir. Remember Dany's father was killed & his heir wouldn't have been her it was Rhaegar. Is that why he married a Stark (Lyanna) preparing to fight the White Walkers?
Yay!!! HOD was really good. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since it came out. It was really a great solid first season. The music is amazing
Prob the first reactor I've seen with a sponsor....well deserved bravo
I love your reactions and insights into these fictional languages. It really makes me appreciate the effort that has been put in to create them.
I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO REACT TO THIS!! 😊
Those connection moments are the best. Nice reactions and review
Viserys was Balerions last rider before he died at around 200 years old
Yesss I’ve been waiting for this
The Catspaw dagger belonged to King Robert at the time of Game of Thrones. Joffrey stole the dagger and used it to pay the assassin who tried to kill Bran. The show failed to explain this, but in the books Tyrion comes to this conclusion during the Purple Wedding. The reason why Joffrey tried to have Bran killed is that he overheard his "father" (while Bran was in his coma) drunkenly commenting on the fact that if he'd been an animal he would have been put out of his misery.
It's a very twisted attempt by him of winning his "father's" approval. But this is the same kid who once cut open a pregnant cat then showed the kittens to his "father".
Anyway, this should help explain where the dagger comes from and how it ends up where it does. Robert Baratheon overthrew Aerys II Targaryen and took the dagger as a trophy.
This was soo good I had to watch it twice 😳❤
I was waiting for this!!!!!! Yessssss
Yay! Super excited for this journey
Keep up the epic work 🤩
So these books are my hyperfixation, I know everything about them and I LOVE watching people react to the show so I've seen a lot of them! So please believe me when I say this is one of the absolute best channels I've come across. You're so observant and insightful it's fantastic how quickly you pick up everything. I think this is also the first time I've seen anybody point out the Byzantine inspired garb Rhaenyra wears at the end, what a stunning costume piece. Can't wait to binge the rest of your reactions, this was a real treat!
So glad you're continuing in Westeros with HOTD. You've become my favorite reactor, very intelligent insight so quickly.

You've seen Balerion's skull in Game of Thrones as well. The one on which Cersei does target practice.
@@arobin6695 Qyburn did say it's Balerion. But they got the size and colour wrong. Remember in season 1 when Arya saw the skull, it had two huge teeth like canine skulls. Then they changed it. And in House of The Dragon they got size and colour correct. Dragon bone should have been black because of rich iron content. And Balerion's should be as large as possible.
YESSS YOU BETTER GET YOUR BAG!! Congratulations on the sponsor Sofie!
So glad to be starting a new series HOD with you!

The throne here is more similar to the book version. It’s extremely high and large in the books and in GoT they made it reversed.

Great lines combine with these actors. Amazing
This morning i was literally thinking when you were going to start HOTD. You’ll love it!
I know I'm late, but still, some info.
The Great Council took place in 101 A.C., the main story in GOT starts around 298 A.C.
King Jaehaerys I was the 4th Targaryen king and ruled for more than half a century of peace alongside his sister/wife Alysanne.
They are wildly considered to be the best Targaryen rulers both in universe and in the fandom.
Together they had 13 children, but the only 2 that survived them were a son that became a maester and a daughter that was banished and disowned.
After their two oldest sons both died in a brief period of time the Great Council was called to decide Jaehaerys successor.
Rhaenys was the only daughter of the firstborn son and Viserys was the oldest son of the second son.
Viserys and Aemma were first cousins before marrying.
Viserys parents were both children of Jaehaerys and Aemma's mother was one as well, she married the lord Arryn of the time but died in childbirth.
Rhaenys mother was Jocelyn Baratheon, which was actually King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne's half-sister from their mother's second marriage with lord Rogar Baratheon.
Viserys' choice was no choice at all. He could either let them both die with the baby stuck inside Aemma, or he could save the baby and have only one die. Unfortunately, they still both died.
Jon did unite almost everyone to fight the white walkers though, and he was a targaryen
Absolutely loved your reaction! You picked up on so many details for your first watch of the episode. Here are a few clarifications in case other people haven’t mentioned them. Yes King Viserys and Queen Aemma are related. They are first cousins. Aemma’s mother was a Targaryen Princess who was married to the Lord of House Arryn, the ruling house of the Vale. And incidentally, her mother died giving birth to her. Princess Rhaenys, the Queen Who Never Was, had a mother who was half Baratheon and half Velaryion. That is why she called the Baratheon in the tournament her cousin. But her father was the first born son of the previous King.
The previous King Jaehaerys had the longest reign of any of the Targaryen Kings. Unfortunately, his eldest two sons pre-deceased him, which is why they held the Great Council at the very start of the show. The choice was between the child of the first son or the child of the second son. If you weren’t factoring in sex, it should have been the child of the first son. But because she was a girl they chose the child of the second son. Just one more Targaryen ancestry detail. The parents of King Viserys and Prince Daemon were brother and sister. They were supposed to have had a happy marriage. And their mother Princess Alyssa was a very avid dragon rider. She took each of her sons riding when they were only a few days old! But of course she died in childbirth with her third pregnancy. I hope that quick history overview isn’t too confusing!
You were very astute at picking up on characters motivations and character. Daemon can come across very confusingly. But I totally agree that he is supportive of his brother. In that brothel scene, what he said was stated badly. But before he got up to give his toast he was shown sitting alone at a table and did not look very happy. I think the idea that the Hand, Otto Hightower, was trying to get across, that Daemon was celebrating the baby’s death was a misrepresentation. You were also right about the deliberate contrast between the bloody tournament and the bloody birth scene. Queen Aemma told her daughter Rhaenyra that the birthing bed was a woman’s battlefield in their only scene together. And yes, Rhaenyra’s costume for the final scene was Byzantine inspired. The costume designer confirmed that detail.
My final comment is about the Long Night. Having Arya kill the Night King was definitely a decision made by the show runners of Game of Thrones. And this was long after they had stopped working directly with the author for the most part. They even admitted that choosing Arya for that role was in large part to surprise the audience, who had been primed for many seasons to have Jon kill the Night King. This new show has the author, George Martin, back working in a closer advisory role. He was instrumental in picking the new show runner for House of the Dragon. Which probably explains the reason you appreciated the improvement in dialogue. And I hope that bodes well for the rest of the seasons for this show. When we eventually get the books covering the Long Night I expect a rather different story. I look forward to watching your reactions to the rest of the episodes for this initial season!🐉🔥⚔️🛡️
Yeah, I love that gown too. I'm an average GoT fan but this episode and that gown are making me a GoT geek😂
Jon did unite the realm against the cold.. so it was a targaryan
I am so happy you started reacting to House Of The Dragon! As someone who has read Fire and Blood many times and being familiar with what will happen in this show, the whole first season is fantastic stuff. You will LOVE IT. Daemon Targaryen is probably my favorite character in the whole world of A Song Of Ice And Fire. He is a fantastic character and Matt Smith plays him incredible. He basically is exactly how I imaged Daemon to be. You're in for another great ride, Sofie!
I can't wait for your reaction of the 1x7 is my favorite.
Great reaction.. been waiting for this reaction for a while since you finished GoT!!! Keep watching, it only gets better..
Every castle has a godswood with a weir wood heart tree in it, even in the south. Dates back centuries, before the Andals came and brought the Faith of the Seven. After that the castle gods woods in the south were all converted to secular gardens, but they’re still there
I am a simple man. I see a girl who knows the background of GoT (also maybe the books) and I click on subscribe.
I'm excited for your reactions to this, I've watched all of your History & Lore reactions. Sadly I couldn't bring myself to watch GOT again I'm still a bit heartbroken tbh but this show has helped get me interested in this world again. Love your intro song btw 💜

I loved HotD! Definitely looking forward to the future seasons.
It gives us so much of what made us fall in love with GoT to begin with... great storylines, compelling characters, outstanding acting (so many great performances, especially by the main characters, many are Emmy-worthy). I suspect you'll love it as well.
9:45 that almost never affected the Targaryens. And at that time it was very common to lose newborns and that in the books Aemma began her married life at a very young age, 13 years old.

Fun fact. George Martin said that this show will supersede as canon over the textbook source material “Fire and Blood” as the objective series of events that transpires in this era.
Matt Smith is so hot in this show I can’t lol. Will we be getting 2 parters for this show? 👀 👉🏼👈🏼
YES MAMA I HAD A FEELING THIS WAS COMJNF TODAY LOL J LOVE THUS SHOW W ALL MY HRART IT MAY EVEN BE. BETTER THAN GOT IN SOME WAYS 😭😭😭😭😩😩😩😩 so excited
The weirwood trees in the south tended to be cut down with the rise of the new gods. One scene while Sansa was in Kings Landing, you see her kneeling and praying at a stump. That was a weirwood tree that had been cut down, and of course Sansa, being of the North, worshipped the old gods.
Daemon never admitted to saying the Heir for a Day line, but he never denied it. GRRM did that on purpose, we don't know if he really said the line or if Otto made that up. It's a reference to how grey Damon's character is.
Yey!! Finally!
