Me too i was 9 and watched every wgn game on my summer break. I used to get so happy when i saw lead off man pre game and was sad when they didn't play and hogans heroes came on. Ahh the good old days... that team had so much character and the fans were way more into it fanatically like shawn o meter and ryno Meter salaami wave for dawson etc grace pumped up the crowd...
Such an awesome video... Thanks for posting... Really appreciate the time you took to upload this video...watching it was like my 41 year old self was transported back to my 14 year old self...saw this live with my dad..just helps me feel that connection a son needs with his father... Sorry for the sappy side note...but hey.. GO CUBS 2016!!!.. I feel something special is going to happen this year !!!😀😀Love my Cubbies!!!-ARC
it happened 34 years ago tonight, and on a Tuesday. on Sep 26, 1989. It's Tuesday Sep 26, 2023, Cubs take on the Braves, the #1 team in baseball right now down in Atlanta.
I was in the clubhouse when they've clinched in Montréal. We had several pennannt won in Montréal over the years, but the Cubby's one, remains the best ever. They even send a camera crew with me when I bought the champagne for the clubhouse...I'd die to find these footages :-)
Haven’t seen this since I watched it as a 10 year old in Chicago. I remember staying up late to see the end and then not being able to sleep being too excited. Fun season! Went to about 10 or 12 games that year.
I remember watching this game at home in Montebello, California when our cable subscriber had Superstations WTBS-Atlanta and WGN-Chicago in our cable package. Always following the Cubs, I was over joyed to see the Cubs wrap up the NL East Division in 1989. Living in Los Angeles, I was so hoping to see the Cubs to win the Pennant over "The Hated Ones" a.k.a. the San Francisco Giants. But sad to say, the Cubs lost.
Was there ever a more poorly representative stadium for a city than the Big O in Montreal? A magical city that oozed a unique and distinct feel compared to the rest of the continent, games from that era of Expos baseball did anything but hint at the fun and adventure of Montreal.
I was too young to see this live, but good God do I miss Harry Caray!
They had a great team in 89, i saw a lot of games that year on WGN

btw the BEST cubs uniforms, right here...no debate
huntand 100% agree .... the Wilson/Rawlings pullover away jersey will go down as the greatest Cubs jersey ever.
Beyond the blue pinstripe home unis yes these were great
1989 was the last year the Cubs wore those road unis. The next year, they changed to grey uniforms.
I luved this CUB squad also. DUNSTON,GRACE,MADDUX, and of course RYNO!!!!!

28:41 - Harry Caray...has...eyes.
End of the 80s!!!!!!!!!!
I think baseball was a lot more exciting back in the 80s.
I'm not going to no bar! Lmao
Montreal as a ball club was dying....the move to Washington was inevitable.
Rick Wrona
Who remembers when "The Wild Thing" gave up that run that Joe Carter hit against him in Toronto in '93 and Toronto celebrated all night?!
Dunston could FLY
