    Nolan planted 500 acres of corn just for the film because he didn’t want to use CGI, especially when driving through the field. After filming, he sold the corn and made back profit for the budget.

    We live in a 3D world, we have width, length, depth, but we also have time as a 4th dimension, we can move forth/back,up/down etc in 3D, but time only moves forward for us. But even though we live in a 3D space, everything we do is bound to time, you can agree to meet at the cinema at this 3D coordinate/location, but it's pointless without a WHEN. The real-world theories this movie is based on are beyond crazy. I would recommend watching "Animation vs Physics" here on youtube, for a quick introduction on how wild our best knowledge of space/physcis are today.

    The reason the water planet is what it is, is because of the gravity of the black hole. Our moon changes the tide in our oceans, the black hole basically shoves the water down to a foot deep in their oceans, resulting in massive waves.

    Tremendously entertaining drama with lots of gripping moments. And a lovely and powerful score from Hans Zimmer for the ages.
    Many viewers are reduced to weeping when our protagonist watches his video messages that show a grandkid in the video, and then later also reveal that Grandpa passed on and was buried near the grandkid's grave. Ugh, tug those heart-strings.
    Kudos to Ellen Burstyn (the mother in The Exorcist, and also the Mom in Requiem for a Dream--- which she should've won the Academy Award for) for appearing in this film as elderly Murph. Always good to see this lady.

    the theory of gravity being able to spread across time and space, and the idea linking gravity and "general relativity" and "quantum physics/mechanics" is currently known as "Superstring Theory" or "String Theory" or "M Theory", which was worked out in the 80s and 90s. Brian Greene and Michio Kaku being two physicists who believe in String Theory.

    One of the craziest things is that when this movie came out scientists hadn't discovered or shown how a black hole would look like until around 4 yrs after this movie was released. Nolan is a cinematic genius n all of his movies are not only interesting but unique like Inception, Tenet and this one.

    basically its Nolan's take on 2001: A Space Odyssey, where the beginning on the earth and being inspired by something from the heavens (gravitational anomaly and wormhole being detected) to people travelling into space into a space station and then going to a distant stargate near Saturn (which is where The Discovery in 2001 was originally travelling to in the Arthur C Clarke novel). Then the stargate becomes the wormhole leading to a new galaxy. The different worlds are like the worlds of different colours after the stargate. The going into the room where Bowman ages becomes the Tesseract, and Cooper returns to his daughter realizing future humans made everything is like humans becoming the Star Child.

    You see what you both may not understand...Theoretically IRL (Because no one has ever entered a black hole) the gravity is so unimaginably strong, the closer you get to the singularity (the collapsed star) after passing the horizon, your body begins to stretch. If you travel feet first your legs will eventually become be stretched to the the point they will look like spaghetti. It's called speghettification and you will be roped apart at the molecular level.. cooper knew going into the black hole he was going to go through this but if it was the last option to get brand to the last planet and save humanity he did just that. It was never "lets jump into a black hole and get the data cause thats how we know for sure to save earth " he had ino 8dea about what he actually was about to encounter.

    • @TheSofkujepanen
      @TheSofkujepanen Před měsícem

      @@SixFour0391lol what, no they don’t 😅 i get that you Americans or people who speak English as a native language aren’t used to subtitles and think that in order to read them you have to stare at them the whole time and somehow consequently miss all of what you said, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. You literally need a split second to glance at the subtitles and you’ll be able to read it and you won’t be missing anything, that’s literally what the rest of the world is used to doing. Also we don’t need to read the subtitles the whole time either, we can just glance at them when either the dialogue is hard to understand or quiet or something like that. I’ve noticed you guys are extremely slow to read them since you’re not used to them, but just practice it a bit and in no time you’ll be able to read them incredibly fast using just a glance. If we’re able to read them so quickly and easily in a language that isn’t even our first or second one, i’m sure you’ll be able to do so with your actual native language. And if reactors choose to use subtitles to make sure all their watchers can keep up, what does it matter? You don’t have to read them if you don’t want to, but let the people who do need or want them have them.

    Great reaction, guys!
    I think what some people miss is Professor Brand and Dr. Mann are the typical Humans and Coop is the idealistic one; the one we all want to be but few actually turn out to be …
    We are selfish and we lie (even with good intentions) to get people to do what needs to be done, in our eyes. Most of us would have pushed the button to get saved, or chose not to go at all.
    The HERO in a story is special because most of humanity doesn’t behave that way. We’d all like to believe we would, but when the chips are down (in such a way as in these types of stories), we usually make the wrong choice.
    A sacrifice cannot be made by those who don’t KNOW they’re losing anything or trading effort or resources for good.
    “Do not go gentle into that good night; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

    Mann explains to Cooper what is happening when you die. So most probably Cooper is dying during the whole ending scenes and there are indicators for that like seeing your family again and the tunnel of light. Brand standing on the desert planet is considered the true ending of the movie and earth is still donzo. On the other hand maybe the ending could also be real, but that we could only know if there will be an Interstellar 2.

      @TheSofkujepanen Před měsícem

      Yeah no. No way would a movie like this or a Nolan movie use one of the cheapest cop outs of “oh it was all just a dream or a vision”. Like that’s one of the worst and most well known awful ways to end a story and it’s mostly used by either kids or very new writers who aren’t that good yet. And i don’t know who you’re talking about but i have never seen anyone say that they consider brand alone on the planet “the true ending”. Like considered by who? You?
      Also if this “it was all just a dream” ending was true, why would cooper imagine Murph as an old woman that’s dying and won’t even imagine his son at all? If the end was a vision conjured up by a dying man they would imagine their kids, BOTH kids, as they were when he knew and saw them as.

    I never get tired of watching this film. I find new things in it each time. You are correct, this score is “stellar” and that is NOT cheesy. I watched a documentary on the score and what it meant. As a trained musician, there’s a lot of good music theory in this. I wish it had been made while I had to take music theory in college.
    Nolan should have gotten Best Director for this one. They would nominate him but not give him the Oscar until “Oppenheimer”. I really disagree with that!

    In other non news: Nolan mixes sound like he's got a pronounced hearing problem.
    Plot wise: it doesn't keep me up at night but it's hard to believe it wouldn't be vastly better to simply make sealed domes on earth than to create gigantic stations and move all the humans through a wormhole to another planet. If they're able to prevent blight contamination of their ships and stations, well, there's no reason they can't do that on earth.

    Couple thoughts on this movie, but first
    @Igli
    there is a teaser trailer out for Interstellar 2 so they're apparently doing a sequel.
    @Matthew
    I dont think Professor Brand is a terrible person. He was looking at the big picture. He was thinking about the survival of the human race. As they've said it in the movie, he sacrificed his own humanity lying to everyone including his own daughter so they would go out on a mission that gives the race the best chance. The only chance really. He couldn't solve the physics problem and as far as he knew his team was the only group of scientists working on this problem so as far as he knew they've failed. And to be honest without them going out he would've been right, the quantum data they needed was coming from the black hole.
    The Black Hole Physics
    Nolan brought Kip Thorne early on the project (still in the writing phase) because he wanted the science to be as realistic as possible. He was very clear on that. The fact that Kip was an executive producer on the movie shows his dedication to this really well. He is a theoretical physicist working on gravitational physics. They developed a computer model that based on his equations was able to simulate how a black hole would look like. They used that model as a basis for the CGI in the movie. The fact that science proved them right later just shows what a brilliant scientist he really is. He was awarded the Nobel prize in 2017 for his work on gravitational waves.
    The Music
    I have always been a fan of Hans Zimmer, most of his work is just amazing. Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Inception, The Da Vinci Code, Blade Runner, etc... All exceptional work but in my opinion this is his Magnum Opus. There is just something about the way he uses organs here its almost distracting. It brings up so much emotions in me I can barely focus on the movie. Seen it about 15 times and it never fails to completely overwhelm me its not even funny at this point the whole thing is just surreal. I am a huge fan of original movie soundtracks and I adore a lot of them so much I have them on my phone and listen to them on a daily basis. But this one is really special to me, in my opinion its one of the best piece of music of the modern era. And thats a really high praise I am aware of that.
    Here is a short 5 mins long vid where Nolan and Zimmer talks about the creation of the soundtrack. Really interesting stuff.
    czcams.com/video/L_8t2VlwK4w/video.html
    Cast
    Superb casting all across the board. Nolan's characters are always complex and very relatable and this movie is no different. Matthew McConaughey was no surprise to me, the man is just brilliant, he absolutely killed it in this movie. Such a charismatic guy and his calm and reassuring Texan demeanor makes him such a likable person. Huge fan of him. As for Anne Hathaway this was the movie that solidified in me what a good actress she is. Their relationship worked so well with Matthew it was a joy to watch how it evolved during the course of the movie. Jessica Chastain is always brilliant, give that woman a well written character with a good script and she will kill it 10 out of 10 times. Brilliant actress and stunningly beautiful. Not much to say about Michael Kane, the man is an absolute legend for a reason. Always great, never a mediocre performance. I think the standout here is Mackenzie Foy (young Murph). My ghawd that little girl absolutely nailed it. She was 10 years old at that time but she acted like an elderly actress with decades of experience. Not an awkward moment, not a scene where I didnt believe that she was Murph. The relationship between Murph and Cooper was beautiful and very sweet. So much chemistry, every single time I watch this movie ( about 15 times at this point ) I am looking for cracks in her performance but man that little girl was absolutely amazing. They worked so well together If anyone would show me a scene not knowing who they were I would not doubt for a second that they are indeed family. Brilliant stuff, absolutely love it.
    Interstellar is the best cinema experience I ever had. Watched it 2 times in the biggest IMAX in the UK ( BFI, London ) and it gutted me both times. I am a huge sci-fi fan since I was a kid but when it comes to a single movie and not a franchise, this is it. Everything about this movie is just great and they work so well together. From the beginning it just pulls me in and I forget about everything else. Simply, amazing.
    BTW they've planted that corn and sold what remained after the shooting was over.
