Shalimar by Guerlain perfume review - Epic love or hate fragrance?

Particularly, my story with Shalimar was less dramatic: at first I had bought the Eau de Shalimar version, which was a lighter and more luminous version, without the leather and incense note of the original. It basically smelled like lemon soda with vanilla powder, delicious.
Then I bought EDP, and I expected to be a fierce tiger, like "hear me roar, motherfuck*s", but on my skin it turned out to be a tame kitten hahaha
I swear to God! I still had plenty of leather and incense, but it was SO graceful… It was by far my most complimented fragrance when I had it 💓

Love this! 😂... because it was pretty much exactly my experience, as well. I’m all about classic fragrances. It was love at first sight with the bottle and the notes sounded very “me”. When I finally got my hands on some, I loved the smell in the bottle, but it probably took me about a decade before I was actually able to wear this. Now, it’s true love!
Shalimar is an acquired taste for sure. Love. It is a "pillar fragrance." Thanks for your thoughts on it. And I love Must de Cartier too. :)
This scent is horrific to me but my son loves it. Just be aware if you love it there is equal number of us who want to throw up.

Great video! You made me laugh, but my journey with Shalimar has been like yours. I first smelled it in the 70s and all I could smell was the sweetness overload . It was too much. I really wanted to like it, but it wasn’t me! I tested it in the 90s and felt the same, too sweet. But in the last few months, I remembered about it, and bought a vintage 1980s extrait of pure parfum on a whim. It arrived and I put it on....oh my Goodness!! It was heaven!! I’m literally obsessed now. I bought a modern EDP version too, and love it. But do prefer the vintage one. And like you, I sleep in it. I have now bought a vintage 1950s version of extrait, pure parfum. Am waiting for it to arrive. I’m beyond excited. I don’t know why it took so long to fall in love with this masterpiece. But I have!! And from now on, will always wear it!! Thanks for your amazing video. I identified with everything you say, except I don’t smell the cat pee note 😂. Enjoy your Shalimar, I can tell that the scent suits you!! ♥️
I did struggle with it for a couple of months until winter came around and it turned to pure magic! My favourite is the EDP, and it's easily my favourite fragrance overall.

You nailed it with this review- I can totally relate. I BLIND bought Shalimar EDP, thinking vintage oriental vanilla- what’s not to love, should be right up my street! What a shock when I first sprayed it!!! 🤭 But I persevered and now I too love it so much. 💕 My husband’s not a fan- says it smells of degreaser when I first spray it.😬

I know what you mean. To my nose it smells better in the cold weather. I get that lemony cat smell in the summer, too.
I wanted so badly to love Shalimar but on me it's just a nasty bug spray. I do get along nicely with Vol de Nuit & Samsara 👍
It’s very bold, I have cologne, edp and few suffle versions. Edp I can only wear at home for myself , not bold enough to wear it out yet. It’s my guilty pleasure , love it 😻

I blind-bought shalimar & it's my absolute favorite, it's so hard to buy scents that wear well on me I think but when Shalimar dries down it is the most beautiful scent in the world & it never starts smelling off at the end of the day like every other perfume I've ever bought

Hi Julie, thank you. To my nose Gypsy Water is a sophisticated and subtle slightly oily lemony aromatic scent. It's pleasant and gentle and totally works in any climate at any season.. but it's barely there. It's almost a non perfume if you know what I mean? In general I much prefer fragrances that packs a stronger punch.

Shalimar is so beautiful. I bought a bottle last year and it's still pretty much full. I only wear it on special occasions because the price is quite pricey. I also have la petite robe noire which is an absolute favorite.

Is this about the Shalimar EDT or the EDP? Are they similar enough? I have never smelled it, but plan to give an EDT to my mom as a gift
This is the EdP. I haven't smelled the EdT in decades so I'm sure someone else can give you advice on it. You have a lucky mum ❤🌹
To me they smell very similar. The edp is deeper, but some like the edt better because it's slightly lighter. I like them both.
Just received my first bottle in my life, 59 yo….oh my lord, this is that scent I remember from the 70’s, and it was not good then, not good now. Don’t know if I should hang onto it in case my nose changes or send it back! It’s not a lovely scent for that lovely bottle.

I know exactly what you're talkin about yes this is not a blind by Perfume but I blind bought it and it took awhile to get used to I never really wore it because I bought it around the time everything shut down so I have nowhere to wear it but I am going to try to wear it this fall but I kind of like it when it dries down it smells kind of like you said vintage yes it is it's old but it's classic and his unique it's very unique I do have the souffles both of them at the intense in the regular one and I also have the cologne smells very remedy light and that's something I guess you could wear it on the summer on the spring maybe but I'm going to try and you know it takes a little getting used to but it isn't unique fragrance imagine what the originals not like you probably knocked us off our feet🤔😬🙄
