      Alvestaam is truly one of the best, but I think he was better in Scar Symmetry unless you count S.45's first album. The albums that followed don't have that spark the first did and what he had in SS.

    Why the hate guys? Sure this isn't their absolute masterpiece but it's still a pretty solid piece that musically ties in with Part 1 quite well. I'll not disagree that For Aeons Past had...something that this double album seems to not have, but that doesn't inherently make it better or worse, only different. "Built On Sand" is a respectable and well written song and I for one highly look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

    • @mattashworth9744

      Actually I'm not pissed off that Christian and Scar Symmetry parted ways, but thank you for assuming you know me and frankly, I also don't believe For Aeons Past sounded like Scar Symmetry either. It had a different sound and I just can't seem to find the words to describe it, but once again that doesn't make it better or worse, just different.

  • @jameslewis3380
    @jameslewis3380 Před 8 lety +8

    I'm pretty surprised with the negativity towards the release. To each his own, but I listened/watched first and then came to read what I thought would be overwhelmingly positive response. It's almost like people are already holding on to For Aeons Past as Solution 45's "old days". Most bands need to get in a decade before fans start calling for a band to return to their roots (take in flames for example). S45 hasn't even been given the opportunity to create the catalog necessary for fans to start demanding return to roots lol. Let the band explore themselves.
    Aeons was a masterpiece, but this album relative to the melodic death market still holds its own very well. And listening without prejudice of not being For Aeons Past reveals PT 1 was packed with plenty of awesome music. And PT 2 is already off to a good start. Only my $0.02!

    C'mon guys, deeply downtuned guitars and complicated rhythm patterns don't instantly make you a djent band. I didn't even realized those tiny similarities until you picked it up here in the commetns. It's still Solution .45 typical style, progressive melodic death metal, with some evolution (of course, it's 5-6 years since the debut). Besides that, those of you who follow other Christian Älvestam's bands can't be negatively shocked by this song in any way.

    • @LurchyScott
      @LurchyScott Před 8 lety +1

      I saw a few comments referring to the new Opeth track as "djent" because of the low tuning and because there is a few bars of straight open string plucking.
      Apparently plucking a low tuned open string is considered djent now.
      Jesus Christ.

    • @Byrdseede
      @Byrdseede Před 8 lety

      Djent is an onomatopoeia for the distorted palm muting that makes up a lot of what the rhythm guitar is doing. They're definitely djenting.

    • @audiobyrne
      @audiobyrne Před 8 lety +2

      Swagu, you committed an etymological fallacy. You cited the original definition which is no longer relevant. The word "djent" is now used to define a genre to such an extent that the use of the etymon as a noun is no longer relevant. As an adjective such as "djenty" it still works.

    • @Byrdseede
      @Byrdseede Před 8 lety

      audiobyrne Djent is a sound. Using the sound a guitar makes to define something that has nothing to do with said sound is incorrect use.

  • @___xyz___
    @___xyz___ Před 6 lety +1

    Lately, I feel like someone's holding my hand and guiding me through all the rhythms, since everything is still in 140BPM grooveland these days. And somehow it makes me feel naive.
    No matter the instrumental or compositional complexity or what have you really, it stands out because I'm forcing myself to notice things that strike me as "not musically challenging". It's one of the things that I used to pride myself on by listening to modern metal, because artists would put in a lot of work to stay ahead of the game. But then, as a listener of ten years, metal isn't very musically challenging, is it?
    With harmony, it's not the composition that makes it so complex, but the instruments and the way they're processed by means of electronics. Distorting and saturating the quiet overtones of a plucked steel string amplifies a vast array of colourful microtonal harmonies that even the artist has no idea are even present at the same time. Power chords and intervals of 3/2 that take turns on the pentatonic scale (black notes of the piano) dominate the soundscape with the occasional digression of a dissonance between adjacent notes. I've come to accept this and enjoy the hard work of the amplifiers, although it ticks the "trivial" box more times than not.
    I'm still not entirely sure what sets Solution .45 apart. It's not the sum of the artists, because although they perform well together technically, it's not exactly noticeable under the thick layer of studio magic who does what for what purpose, and who they even are. A strong point is their emotional theme, which inspires to think and reconsider, but to persevere, not always well encapsulated in the genre. The arrangements sometimes hint of a turning point with massive potential for awesome rebound, but disappointingly snap back to riffs and refrains already exhausted to make for a pretty solid wall of sound. I lose my patience fairly quickly. But when I'm in the mood, I can swallow a whole album while working.
