  • A camera team accompanied the artist and painter Richard W. Allgaier on his unusual journey through turbulent West Africa to the origin of human civilization - into the heart of the Sahara.
His journey on the tracks of the explorers led him along the Niger through Mali via the enigmatic Dogon people to the legendary desert city of Timbuktu. From there the journey continued with a camel caravan of the Tuareg over the Hoggar massif to the endless desert.
Sparsely commented in the form of a diary-like monologue, the film lets the images and atmospheres speak for themselves. Especially the colourful kaleidoscope of the original Africa and the surreal aesthetics of the desert give the film an unmistakable character.
The viewer experiences the black continent through the eyes of a travelling painter - or a painting traveller - in search of traces to himself and to the beginning of the world.
International Nature Film Festival 2006 Toulon: Special Jury Award and Audience Award.
